19 Did you know...?

My mom today went to the market and bought some fresh fruits and vegetables. she's been told that tomatoes and leeks should never be kept in the fridge because it damages them. i'm a bit confused now because that's what my mom and i been doing for years.
i thought that was interesting, because i always keep the fruits in a basket and it would never occur to me to store them in the fridge, but when it comes to veggies, it's just the contrary. how weird.

Re: did you know...?

Yes, I knew. Placing tomatoes in the fridge stops their rippening. Tomatoes are a fruit. Also, always seperate fruits and veggies during storage.

Re: Did you know...?

And always keep banana's away from other fruit...they speed up the fruits ripening process and make them rot faster than normal.

Re: Did you know...?

Yeah I've always kept tomatoes and avacodos out of the fridge, along with fruits like plums, bananas, apples, pears, oranges, peaches, etc. But I put melons and stuff in the fridge. Some veggies I keep out too like onions and stuff, but carrots and greens and stuff I put in the fridge.
