You should contact the maker of the denim (jacket or jeans), because the color transfer you're referring to is called "Crocking" (the denim has excess dyes/pigments that are coming to the surface and easily transferring to anything that comes in contact with it). The quality assurance department should have checked for crocking (it's a very easy test to do) during the development and inspection processes. Perhaps the denim manufacturer would reimburse the purse, it doesn't hurt to try.
To try to prevent this in the future, when you get new denim first wash them in hot water (this gets rid of a lot of the excess dyes/pigments). Next, re-wash them in cold water with detergent, a little white vinegar, and a little salt (this helps "set" the color to prevent it from "crocking" or "bleeding"). hth.
