Too much dust!

My apartment keep getting dusty. Some dust is natural, but it's feels like it's too much than what it should be. I don't know much about home cleaning. Why would the dust appear?

Re: Too much dust!

gee, i dunno! I guess if you have dry skin, the flaking could be causing extra dust? that's what dust is - mostly skin particles.

My sister vaccuums/dusts once a week and her place is never dusty

Re: Too much dust!

You can buy electro static dust filters that you add onto your furnace that will filter out a lot of the dust in the air... Some are the same size as the fiberglass ones you have now and you just plug them into a wall outlet..

And there used to be a room air filter "Ionic breeze" or something like that where the dust particals plated out on charged rods.. I think it was from Sharper image who went out of business.. Plus there's HEPA room air filters that do an excelent job of removing particles from the air.. I'd check your local home building products store.. Home Depot and Lowes in the US..

YUP!! Dust is primarily dead skin cells, so everyone moisturized and use any electronic device to keep the dust level down. There are 6 of us and no dust!

Re: Too much dust!

I have this problem too, because my home is all hardwood floors which is notorious for dust. Buy a shop vac (water vacuum). It does a great job.

Re: Too much dust!

Too dry skin creates dust? Never heard about that one before;D

I think that it could be so much dust because I have a lot of textiles laying around (pillows, cloths, shoes etc).

Btw, it's also important to not get it "too clean", because it can create allergies.

Re: Too much dust!

dust is pretty much just small perticles that settle out of the air, it can be skin (which is pretty common), any dirt that gets in your house, pollen any insect detrius all that good stuff

Is your apartment located in the center of the city/ is there any road/factory nearby?
In that case there is no solution other than you have to clean your home regularly
Since they emit dust particles now and then .. we are also facing the same problem...we have planned to shift home to suburbs

Re: Too much dust!

My apartment gets extremely dusty. The area that I live in is a bit windy, I have a cat and our windows are always open. I have to dust my home every third day!

Re: Too much dust!

My old apartment was super dusty. I would vacuum and sweep every day, mop every few days and dust at least once a week but I felt like the dust would never go away. My new apartment isn't as bad at all.

I like to get air vent liners and stick them into the air vents and that makes a big difference in the amount of dust that gets blown around the house. You can also use fabric softening sheets, the dust sticks to them and you just throw them out and replace them after a couple weeks. They are nice too because as warm air is blown around your house, a nice scent fills the room.
