i'm not in canada, but do you have target, walmart, anything like that? you should definitely try there.

You might try antique shops/consignment stores also. They can get really nice furniture that isn't too expensive as long as it isn't "truly" antique. My mom bought one for me at an antique shop for about $200 I think.
