Question Confused about eyebrows??

Ok so I looked around some previous threads and didnt find my answer, so I was hoping someone could help me out!!

At work the other day, the girls were talking about getting their eyebrows done and I noticed after looking at them, the hairs looked as though they had been cut as well as the entire eyebrow shaped.. my roomates said the places that they go never trim or cut their eyebrows at all, just wax. So i guess my question is.. do most eyebrow waxes just wax the hairs that "start" outside of the "border" that they make? Or do they wax the ones hanging over the border too? What it seems like to me is that they wax the ones that start outside of the border and then trim the rest of the ones that hang over the edge?? Again, sorry for explaining this so badly

Ive attached some pics of what im talkin about to make it easier to see.. It just looks to me like the hairs on the middle side (nose-end) have been trimmed.. If you guys could maybe just explain the steps that you are used to when you get yours done maybe that would be easier.. Thanks!!!!

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

When I get mine done, she just waxes around the border and leaves the ones in the middle alone! Maybe those girls just had naturally shorter brows. Women do tend to have less bushy brows than dudes do, so if you're comparing them to your own, then they'll look a lot shorter. My hubby gets his brows trimmed when he gets his hair cut. (We go to the same girl LOL)

April I have to warn you that's how i got started!

Seriously without trimming male brows would be just wild. Mine are really weird; grow at different rates, are not a uniform color, not good, so i am always trimming)

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

It depends... I notice the more you spend, the more they do for you, when you go to a hair place or nail palce to get it done, it's usually a wax and rip and pay. When you go to a dayspa, it's usually, a perfect prep, a microscope light, wax, a soothing aid with cold compress, and trimming.

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

the main reason many people trim their brows is because they grow funny. like mine. for some reason my eyebrow hairs thought it would be funny to grow downward so they could annoy me. solution? trim them. haha. i've tried using eyebrow gels to put them in place, but those stubborn puppies will not go. Same for people whose brows grow upward or in all imagineable directions. hope this helps =]

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

mine need to be trimmed - the reason is that the hair 'falls down' and makes the shape look funny. So unless I stick them in place with wax they need to be trimmed like you're talking about

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

i always trim, including the brow ends and between the brow. it makes the brow look more finished and polished imo.

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

I don't get my brows done. But I trim my brows and then pluck the hairs that are actually outside the brow line. If that makes sense. lol.

LOL! Thanks for the warning! I'm not worried though because it's me that tells the girl to trim his brows and he always complains about it and says they look fine! Plus, I've asked my hubby if I could put makeup on him before because he's got the most gorgeous curly, long eye lashes and he gives me a very firm no every time!! LOL

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

And it all depends on what your hairs are doing vs what you want.. Some just don't want to lay down in the direction you want them to go so personally I have to trim those..

I pluck almost dailly, then trim for length and trim for shape weekly.. And tint my brows every time I color my hair... Always plenty to do... Too bad they just can't train them to stay like you want.. Lol

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

I was just going to mention because of the wierd coloring and so forth I tried something called Brow Fantasy by Revlon. I love it! I can get a dark brown and it seems like i got all the strange colors look a little more uniform. there is a gel you apply with something that looks like mascara brush and a pencil. highly recommended for unruly brows.

I second this. It's a great product. I have moved to something a little darker as even the dark brown had too much red in it for me (my brows are almost black). I still use the gel it comes with though.

I pluck my brows on a daily basis. I trim and wax weekly. I have the most stubborn, thick, dark brows...

For my brows I now use MAC's brow pencil in 'Stud' and MAC Brow Shader in 'Soft Charcoal/Maple'. Works well for me! (a bit frickin expensive though!!)

NYC makes a product called 'Browser' in 'Brunette' which is a wax and powder which works really well and costs like $2. Again, too red, but can use it in a pinch!

Re: Confused about eyebrows??

when i get mine done, they wax first then the lady will pluck accordingly, then she finishes with some kind of balm to soothe them from being so red. i suppose if they were real long, she might trim them. but mine aren't so she just plucks some strays.

i think several factors come into play..how much you pay, the person doing your brows, & your brows themselves. so it's all going to depend on where you go. i go to a fancier place because i love how the lady does them, so it's worth a little bit of extra money to me cause i can keep up with the shape she creates, for a few mths anyway.

HTH those brows are nice BTW!
