Any ex-tanners out there feeling sad!

I used to love love love to tan..indoors but especially outside with tanning oils and everything during the summer..I have since given it up and decided when I'm older I want to look, well, younger!! But man is it hard to give up...I just started wearing sunscreen recently (bad I know) but I have really missed the feeling on my skin that the sun gave me...I now keep a 'mystic tan' so I am not any lighter than I used to be. I guess I just miss the act of tanning! Does this make sense or do I sound nuts!~?

Me too! I loved going to the beach instead of class and just lying there. haha

Now everyone thinks I'm wear because I'm so concerned with wearing sunscreen. They only wear it when they go to the beach and not everyday, and they look at me like I'm nuts/paranoid when I apply every day!

I do! I miss the relaxed feeling and the way it feels on your skin, all warm.

Re: Any ex-tanners out there feeling sad!

I think I get what you mean, but just hang in there, that's why I don't tan. Even though I LOVE to look tan, my mom looked old at a young age, and this is my way of NOT.

I've already seen lots of people I graduated with that have like weird stuff on their skin from tanning everyday. They look pretty w/ a tan, but I kind of feel bad that tanning beds take effect so fast.

I know it's sooo not the same! I feel like I have to often to keep my face as dark as my body..my legs look like they have been in the sun for a week as well as my stomach and arms..but my face..hell no. WHITE!
I need to start using the mystic spray stuff the tanning salon sells I guess to even out my body...so annoying. But, I hope to be wrinke free so one day it'll be worth suffering. IT BETTER!!! lol

I too am an ex tanner. Always tanned in high school inside and out. I see now though what it has done, I have a few sun spots on my chest and nose. I am only 24 so I am happy that I have decided to quite, can you image what I would look like mid-30's if I kept going?! Yuck

Girl, you can still do it at times - I don't see the harm in tanning like once every other week or month as long as you wear SOME sunscreen... you'll still get a bit of color in.

But either way, good luck.

Re: Any ex-tanners out there feeling sad!

I'm a former tanning bed user. I stopped going because I was afraid of how I would look years later and skin cancer.

Now I use sunscreen all the time when I'm out. I tan easily due to my skin tone and I still get color even with sunscreen but I limit myself outside as in I don't purposely bake for hours like I use to. I get color from being out in the garden, walking etc.

Plus being under the care of a plastic surgeon I have seen many patients in the waiting rooms who just had surgery to remove skin cancer. One lady had melanoma on her arm and she has huge scars from where they had to cut into her deeply to remove it. She may get reconstructive surgery to make it look better. I'm not trying to scare anyone. If people want to tan that is their business. I just know for myself I try to be more cautious now.

Re: Any ex-tanners out there feeling sad!

I'm not an ex tanner but I'd like to say, like Celly, that you can still go outside and lie in the sun for a while. Just slather on some sunscreen and don't stay too long. I have very pale skin, to the point where most foundation lines don't have a light enough color for me. But I still lie in the sun sometimes. I sometimes wish I had a tan because I love the sun and summer and the feeling of lying in the sun, but I burn like a biotch and my dad got skin cancer a couple years ago because he never wore sunscreen when he was my age. On my moms side we have really great skin and I don't wanna eff it up with the sun. 4 out of 5 wrinkles are caused by sun damage!

Yes I use to use tanning beds. I miss the relaxing feeling, and now it's so hard to find sunless tanners that don't look orange!!

I am not ex tanner, although I used to tan more than I do now... but I just wanted to let you know that I really admire you for breaking this addiction and for choosing not to tan... your skin will thank you keep up the good work

Re: Any ex-tanners out there feeling sad!

I used to go to the tanning bed, but I quit a little over 4 years ago. I do miss it. It wasn't just for the tanning aspect, but whenever I had back pain and went, I seriously felt better. And, when I was tanning, I didn't even have to bother with concealer and foundation. I feel seriously pale (don't even say it!), but spray tans and whatnot have never worked well for me.

I used to love soaking up the sun and getting tanned but now I find much more beautiful and classy to be, well, white! See Anne Hathaway, I just love her skin!
