I Broke Out in Hives!

Last week, I got a small rash that looked like a mosquito bite. I didn't think anything of it but then I got some blotchy red semi raised rashes on my collar bone are on Sunday. Yesterday, the itching got worse and I noticed it had spread to my legs and on my arms too. Small and not really visible. Last night I felt myself itching worse and took the day off to better moniter it at home. I took an oatmeal bath which helped tremendously but now it's gotten worse within the hours! I'm literally on the verge of crying bc I can't take it.

I'm going to the doctor to get it checked out as Benadryl has not helped at all. I don't have a history of any allergies and this heat making me sweat is just worsening the feeling. I'm more fearful that it'll spread to my mouth area as it's already on my back neck and forehead (there goes my d2b entry) and swell my tongue or throat up. Why me?! It's bad enough I've already got a cold with a sore throat

That sounds like scarlet fever! is the tongue reddish/lumpy?

No not yet thank goodness. But it's driving me so mad! This is the first time in years I've stepped outta the house in my pj's, hair unwashed and NO MAKEUP!!!! I always have to have at least concelaer, blush and mascara. I'm that desperate to make this go away.

mostly there's a fever present with chicken pox I think...?

I thought that too but they're not blisters and I've already had them too. My thumb swelled up yesterday and got numb like when you cut off the circulation, dunno if that has anything to do with this in particular.

I'm here right now. Nurse just checked me and she's sure they're hives so now I'm waiting on the doctor. They looked so horrible and a turtle neck is not really feasible right now lol.

Hives can actually be caused by a virus (or associated I think) I don't think that a lot about hives is really fully understood. Back in january I had a really bad outbreak of hives at the same time that I had this bad stomach virus. The dr. said the virus and hives were related.

Same for me, the benadryl didn't work so I got prednisone and it cleared up in no time flat! Hope that you feel better soon, hives are no fun!

Doc just left, gonna get a shot and prescription for allegra (I think that's what he said). They must've looked really bad bc I can hear him telling the nurse right now that I had really imppressive hives Lol!

No thank goodness. The last thing I want is a hot doctor seeing me so tored up lol. He looked in his mid-thirties and wasn't ugly but not my preference

Do they have any idea what caused it? I have wierd allergies too which really sucks! Did he tell you about keeping a food journal, and any products that you come into contact with?

Are you feeling any better now? Is it painful or just itchy?If I were you when it reaches any part of your face to go to the doc ASAP!

(sorry about the questions! Its just it sounds like an allergy that I have and the docs have no idea what causes it. It comes and goes without warning. I hope they know what caused yours though.)

That sounds really horrible Adrienne. Hopefully it'll clear up soon because it must be making you feel miserable.

Lynn, I have no idea what broke me out. I don't have any allergies to anything, have never had an allergic reaction before and hadn't done anything out of the ordinary. The only thing I had done different in the past two weeks since it started was work in my dads barn. I was helping dust off tons of items and I remember getting itchy but I didn't think nothing of it as I thought it was just me sweating back there. I later that week got a tiny rash on my hand but it looked like a mosquito bite, which I figured was from the barn. Until this past weekend I thought I had gotten poison ivy, but on monday it spread everywhere rapidly, like nothing there one second, 30 min past and I had a red welt. I'm pretty sure it was all the old dust so I'm not going back there anymore. Right now it still itches but I have to pick the medicine that should make it go away. It's not painful but worse than a mosquito bite, I tried hard not to scratch. Unfortunately, I did find out that 70% of hives cases never have a determined reason
