Scar!! Help!
I hope you guys can help me. I had a surgical biopsy last week. It required an incision at the base of the throat, approximately 2 inches in length. I would like any tips on things that can be used to help lessen the scar. I just took the steri strips off yesterday, since then I have used vitamin E cream and some fresh aloe this morning (I really hate the smell!)
I have very pale skin and I expect anything I do will result in a scar, that has been the realty of the past. As this is in a very prominent position that always will be visible(except for turtle necks) I want it to heal as nice as possible.
What do you guys suggest.
Thank you!

Re: Scar!! Help!
There is a surgical patch on the market called Mederma. You should check with your surgeon though, there may be something more effective by prescription...

Re: Scar!! Help!
I used Scar Zone for a long time and stay out of the sun!! My scar went from the top of my ear down under my chin,, and the surgeon did a great job of hiding it in natural wrinkles.. Lol.

Re: Scar!! Help!
I usually break a capsule of vitamin E and apply to the area, I also heard the coconut oil is very good to use and so is cocoa butter.

Re: Scar!! Help!
I heard Bio Oil and cocoa butter work wonders for scars! I have both but I havent used them long enough to know if they make a difference but from what I've read on other sites they work great.

Re: Scar!! Help!
Don't use vitamin E! Studies show it is more irritating than beneficial and most dermatologists and plastic surgeons will tell you not to use it! Silicone is the only thing proven to work in legitimate studies done by doctors. Easiest product to get- and easiest to use-- is Kelo-cote. Lots of doctors sell it in their offices and you can also get it a bunch of places online. I have seen it work VERY well but you have to use it consistently every day twice a day! But you sound motivated to make it better so I'm sure you will!

Re: Scar!! Help!
Thank you all for the tips. I have heard of the bio oil and Merderna patch. I actually looked at the bio oil last week but I was concerned at the size of the ingredient list and the amount of syllables involved. Not to mention the price 1oz for $20. I wanted to hear some good things before I spent the money. Thing’s tend to be more expensive here, lucky for me I am heading to the stated for a few days.
Thank you again.

Re: Scar!! Help!
I would also say Mederma.
The manager from my local Walgreens told me I could get a refund if I'm not completely satisfied with the product.
Nice guy, huh?

A product called Demarkable...a plastic surgeon sells it to his patients, I've heard.

Re: Scar!! Help!
avoid vitamin E ( here's an article from futurederm, it says vitamin E thins the blood, helping with blood circulation and as a consequence, it may interfere with healing).
a cataplasm of green clay is supposed to help.
also stay away from the sun, it only makes the scars worse.

Re: Scar!! Help!
yes avoid Vit E oils at all costs for scars.... try silicone based products and frequent massage to the area (with the scar cream/gel) helps
