Anti-Fur Group Pies Vogue Editor Wintour
PARIS (Oct. 8) - French anti-fur activists said they struck Anna Wintour, editor of the U.S. edition of Vogue, in the face with a cream pie on Saturday to protest against her support for the use of animal fur by the fashion industry.
It was the second such attack this year on Wintour, an unapologetic fur supporter decried by animal rights groups as a "pelt pusher."
"Wintour is fur-bearing animals' worst enemy because her magazine continues to feature dozens of pages of pro-fur editorials and advertising each year," PETA campaigner Yvonne Taylor told Reuters by phone in Paris.
"She takes big glossy advertisements for fur and she refuses to run any anti-fur ads, even paid ones, so she's a big fur supporter," Taylor said.
Wintour was unavailable for comment on the incident.

How appropriate that she was pied instead of splashed with blood! She is one of the major players in the fashion world who continues to support the anorexia model look.

Re: Anti-Fur Group Pies Vogue Editor Wintour
I'm sorry but I don't see how pieing Anna Wintour or anyone else is going to do anything to stop people from wearing fur nor do I think pouring animal's blood on someone is appropriate. In fact, I think it's childish and counterproductive. That's not an effective anti-fur campaign and personally, I think it's brings negative attention to the movement. Perhaps it's that "there's no such thing as bad publicity" cliche at work here.
I don't own fur but I'd like to. I wonder if all those anti-fur people happen to wear any kind of leather ever? Leather is ubiquitous on clothing, shoes, bags & other accessories. Do they wear make-up that's tested on animals? Do they eat meat or animal by products? I find it a bit hypocritical if these fervent anti-fur people drink milk from cows (which are pumped with hormones and canned like sardines) or enjoy a nice chicken parm every now and then (they are also canned like sardines and not killed humanely in many cases I'd like to bet).
As for the anorexia look, yeah the fashion magazines are partly to blame but so is the general public. If people don't like the look these magazines portray and push, no one's forced to buy them, read them or live by them. It's all whatever the demand wants, the supply provides. It's the same with the trashy tabloids people complain about.

Re: Anti-Fur Group Pies Vogue Editor Wintour
I'm really bothered by the violence tactic of this group. This pie and the tossing of red paint constitutes assault!! I am a designer and because I cannot afford to design with real fur, I use faux, and when that is not in good supply, I use boas or feather trims. Is this still America? If I were Anna Wintour, I'd probably double my fur advertising now, and send PETA a free subscription to Vogue, just for my anger alone.

I really can't stand PETAs petty, childish protests, I love fur, I mean how dare they pie her!

Some of the PETA members are "Vegans". They don't eat or drink food produced by or from animals. They do have alternatives in many cases (including alternatives to milk). Nor do they wear any clothing produced from animals (no leathers, fur, silk, wool).
The designer Stella McCartney is a Vegan and none of her clothes are made from animal products.

Well good for those who are vegan. However, I don't think they, meaning Peta, have a right to impose their views on others. If you don't want to eat meat or wear fur, then don't but do go around pieing people, attacking them or calling them heartless animals for exercising their freedom of choice. It's so self-righteous it pisses me off. People have been eating meat & wearing animal skins/fur since the beginning of time. They remind of those anti-abortion people. Both complain about violence but then go on and use violence themselves.
Could conditions be improved and made more humane for the animals slaughtered for consumption and fur? Definitely. Why don't they protest for better conditions because meat eating and fur wearing are not going anywhere.

LOL Sorry, I just get so passionate sometimes. I'm such a fiery person. I will add I think I'd make a better president than Bush.
