well everyone...
I thought for most of my childhood and early adolescence that I simply hated clothes, I was an oddball type of female. Not into shopping or fashion or other girly-stuff.
I was wrong, i just didn't like 80's style! When it comes to trends inspired by an era I am more a 60's or 70's knock-off type of girl.
I have had to spend a lot of this season's shopping combing through a lot of stuff/styles I thought died a natural death long beofre I even turned 15 years old.
No matter how much cash I have on hand for clothes shopping I wind up having to sift through tops in hideous flourescent colors, bottoms with ruffles in all the wrong places that make my figure look fat instead of flattered! horizontal stripes, veryical stripes that are brown and white instead of black and white. huge polka dots.
I can't hate on every type of 80's clothes there are some that I was happy to see come back this summer. Well namely, tube tops...it was nice to stay cool in a tube top. I may even consider buying a drop waist blouse or shirt if it can manage to hide my tummy this fall.
Is anyone else here irritated by the new proliferation of high waisted jeans, leggings and (omg) legwarmers popping up in fashion mags and being sold for outrageous prices?
I for one am not gonna spend $300 to look like I got all new clothing from a secondhand store...when secondhand stores actually have the real deal and still in good shape.
I am not bagging on secondhand stores, I love them and I got a pair of Doc Martin sandals from a place like that in good condition. It just seems pointless to open up a new catalog from vicoria's scret or another place..and wind up seeing the skinny pants, bolero jackets and vests we all wore in middle school. Ecch!
I saw a woman at a concert I went to wearing a pinstripe vest, black leggings, and a white pirate shirt with a black Blossom-style hat...need I even mention her wide belt complete with silver chains across it? I couldn't decide if she was fashion forward or totally backwards...a woman who was all of twenty years old wearing clothes that would have gotten her laughed out of a given room only 5 or 10 years ago!
I am looking forward to the messy hair and flannel jackets and suede coming back into style if fashion truly comes around full circle. The 90's were allright but i don't like the 80's for fashion at all. too man of the styles made or inspired by that era strike me as straight up tacky or simply unflattering. OMG, nail biting anticipation at wondering who will be the first to wind up sporting the first bolo tie I see.
bright blue eyeshadows? come on! chunky earrings? overwhelming and gaudy on any face or hairstyle!
So give me an amen if you are so not jumping
on the 80's bandwagon! What the crap is goin' on?
hugs
