I really don't shop there too often, but they're actually getting a lot better in their selection of clothes

Re: can't find them big enough...
I'm an apparel technical designer who works in the garment industry. My job involves taking the fashion designer's sketches and giving the factory the measurements to make the garment fit the company's fit standard, then when the sample arrives I fit it on the fit model and tell the factory what changes (if any) need to be made and how to improve the garment overall. I specialize in Missy and Juniors sweaters, but I've worked at companies that also make jackets, jeans, etc. The reason the jackets probably aren't working for you is because you are different from the company's fit model. There are many fit models in the industry and the trick is to find a company whose fit model you are closest to. That being said, the typical fit model is considered a Size 8, is about 5"7" tall, has a chest measurement of 35", a waist of 28", and a hip measurement of 38" (this is just a very basic standard and is changed from company to company depending on their customer). She is also usually a bra size "34 B". Therefore, since you are a larger bra size, I think you should look for companies that target a more curvy customer (who would use a larger bra-size fit model), such as Frederick's of Hollywood, Bebe, Cache (believe it or not they do make some office-appropriate suits and separates). Victoria's Secret uses a smaller bra-size model, so they probably won't work for you.

Re: can't find them big enough...
Are you finding that the largest size available doesn't button? Because in that case, you may want to try plus size stores, I know Lane Bryant usually has some trendy stuff. (Or at least it looks like it when I glance in the window!) And if you can get a jacket to fit in the chest but it's a little big somewhere else, you can always have it altered! If you're having such a hard time getting them to fit that may be your best option even if it does cost a little more!
Also, it wouldn't hurt to try Sears ... I have bought very few things there in the last few years and often don't bother in looking in the store, but recently I was looking for a suit for job interviews and went through the entire mall, and the only one that fit me was at Sears! If you've tried every other store, why not try Sears? It can't hurt!
BTW Samantha, that would explain why it's so hard to find pants to fit me outside the Junior's section ... My waist is 27" but my hips are only 33"

Re: can't find them big enough...
thanks, girls!
janelle, i think sears is way overpriced and the quality sucks. i usually go there to get some cheap clothes for europe so i can just leave them at my house over there.
thanks for all that info, samantha! i never knew it worked like that.
liz, express is too small and nordstroms is too expensive LOL
GG, that's actually a good idea about the altering, but i'll have to see if i'm still into finding a jacket like that. it's just bothered me because not one has fit me and i was curious why and what brands. thanks for the idea!

Re: can't find them big enough...
Hi Samantha!
I used to work in the garment industry in NYC myself. I was a clothing designer for Missy & Junior Sportswear & Careerwear for 9 years. Changed careers after that.
I just wanted to note that you're saying is absolutely true!

Re: can't find them big enough...
Jennifer, I can totally sympathize with you because I often have the same trouble. I really like the burgundy velvet one too!
My advice is that I would stay away from junior sized shops because they tend to be cut smaller in the bust area. (Forever 21, Express, etc).
Have you tried some catalog stores? Like Spiegel, Boston Proper...
Also, I think going back to Macy's, or Lord & Taylor's might be worth a second chance. I've found that you need patience when it comes to things like this. There are some styles that larger chested women CAN wear, we just need to buy them in a larger size than normal.
In Macy's try the labels called: DKNY, Jones NY, Liz Claiborne & INC. (which is Macy's own label).
Also I have found that Banana Republic, although a little pricier, fits me really well in the bust area. You just have to have patience and ask a sales person to steer you in the direction of the "missy" department in stores not the junior section. The clothes are cut differently and are a way better quality than the junior department.
Good luck!

i know you're not being rude i actually thought the same, but i've seen it on busty women (lol) and it looked really nice, not trampy or whatever, because they wore it right, like i would.
amethyst, i've never tried to look through catalog stores, but i'll take a look! oh, and i've gone back several times, since these jackets came into style! every time i'm out shopping, which is often, i always look around. i will take a look at banana republic. my mom has a big chest, as well, and their stuff usually fits her nicely. thanks!

Yes, you are definitely closer in proportion to the Junior size fit models.
