I usually find that low heels are comfortable for a day of walking through the mall... the last time I had a job that required me to be on my feet all day was in high school and I could wear tennis shoes

Last season I bought a pair of awesome knee-high black boots from Payless, they had a slightly narrow heel (but wide enough for me to walk in, I can't wear stilletos!) that was only about an inch high, and a slightly narrow (but not truly pointy) toe that didn't look too chunky. I have no idea if they have a similar pair this season though! I also have a few dress shoes (ie, things you can wear with skirts or suits) that also have a slighty narrow, low heel -- comfy but still grown-up and sophisticated, and not chunky

But again, most of them are a year or two old... But my point is, if you look hard enough you can find such shoes -- though I'll admit it's a little hard!
PS: I also agree that wedges, especially ones that aren't super high, can also be fairly comfy if that's a style you like!
