Ever feel guilty after a shopping spree?
Well I went shopping a couple days ago, after telling myself if would be ok to go shopping if I only spend $20. Sounds like hardly any money and maybe only one shirt worth, right? Well not for me. I'm an avid Ross shopper. you can get a good 3 shirts there for only $20. But anyway I ended up getting 5 shirts and spent $40. I keep telling myself that it's a great deal! but I feel guilty, because I should be saving my money! I'm a broke college kid who really wants to get out of the 'rents house but before that'll happen I need to get my own car and stop driving theirs. But I'm always spending!! Ah well, at least I'll look cute in my new shirts!

Yes, I have felt guilty before. Most of the time I just enjoy it though!

I'm really poor too, so it takes some effort to convince myself to spend money at all. I constantly feel guilty after shopping sprees, but at least I can return stuff!

Re: Ever feel guilty after a shopping spree?
if Iīd be spending my own money I wouldnīt feel guilty. but since itīs all my parents I do.
I donīt feel guilty right after my shopping spree, but when Iīm home and calculate all the prices together in my head an realize how much money I spent (especially guilty after MAC sprees!!) I feel so bad
I can go a couple of months without clothes shopping, but even one single month without skinscare/makeup byuing is sooo hard!

Re: Ever feel guilty after a shopping spree?
Almost everytime I go shopping I feel guilty when I leave. It gives me a great high when I am doing it but when I leave I feel guilty.

Re: Ever feel guilty after a shopping spree?
I very seldom feel guilty. I rationalize it by remembering that I work very hard so I deserve to splurge.... OFTEN! Besides, I have no hubby and no kids to look after so no one needs any of my $ except me and my pugs and they really dont care what I do. One time I was starting to feel guilty after buying makeup, then one look at the pretty colors and I realized it was worth all the money that I spent!!

Me too! I figure as long as I pay my bills & contribute towards my 401K, then I am ok spending the rest of my $$ on whatever I choose. The only time I did feel remorse was back in December when I bought my iPod. Being that it was Xmas time and that I still needed to buy more gifts, I felt like I could use that money for that. I decided to return it. But in February when I got a bonus at work, I ended up going back and buying it and I love it.

Dont worry ,that does sound like quite the deal.I sometimes feel a bit guilty when i spend money on myself,I rather spend it on my kids. But then i remember how hard i work all day long, all week by myself and i feel better because i know i deserve it.Try to to what is best for you,set goals,if you want to save for a car, start putting a lilttle away and try to stick to it,Then you should put a least 20 bucks maybe a week to spend on what you want.

Re: Ever feel guilty after a shopping spree?
I sometimes feel guilty, because I am also a poor college student, and hubby has a low-paying starter job, and we are trying to save up money (you never know when the car will die or something and we might need some extra cash!) ... He's also very frugal and budgets a certain amount of money each week and refuses to spend more once his weekly money runs out, not even to buy a lunch at McDonalds! (He usually eats lunch at home -- he doesn't skip lunch if he runs out of money ) So sometimes I feel bad if I go to the mall and buy $100 worth of clothes!
However I justify it by the fact that I rarely go to the mall anymore -- once on each school break, maybe 2 or 3 times during the summer, and otherwise I don't spend much money except for all the required bills and groceries and stuff (and a few drugstore brand mu purchases here and there ). So over the course of a year I *hope* I spend as much as hubby does, since he occasionally buys DVD's and video games. Plus we always get money from our parents for birthdays and Christmas so that goes toward our shopping sprees! But now that we're married we try treat everything as "our" money, not "his" and "hers", so if I ever feel like I'm spending more than hubby I do feel a little guilty (although i doubt he'd mind as long as we don't have to dip into the savings to pay the rent!) And hey, I'm still able to save part of my small paycheck (from my teaching assistantship) each month so I'm not spending all of our money!
I think once we have more of an income and more money in savings, I won't feel guilty from shopping anymore -- because I know I will always be a bargain shopper, I just can't bring myself to buy a pair of pants for $80 when I can find another brand for $30! And I'm usually pretty good about only buying clothes that I will wear a lot (though mu is a different story, since some products turn out to be of a disappointing quality!). So I know I'll never spend that much of our money

Re: Ever feel guilty after a shopping spree?
i feel guilty because i'm supposed to save my money. i buy clothes, makeup and shoes, but i don't go anywhere to use any of it. so it's kind of wasting away . so when i buy things, i don't REALLY need them.

Well...... I'm similar in the sense that I have many half-filled tubes of skincare and haircare prdcts, as well as many half-used foundations.. I don't really feel guilty but I treat it as a form of recreation ( sort of.. cause it makes me feel really happy and excited ). Every weekend of shopping is very exciting for me. Sometimes I'm on a budget and only purchase like 1 or 2 stuffs ( like body scrubs ) but I feel really glad especially if the prodct is good.
