Okay, mind you, there's pics w/ most of this in the magazine... #s 7-11 apply to summer work dressing... #s 17-21 are via Betsey Johnson... #s 23-31 are from Isaac Mizrahi... #s 35-38 are from a K-Mart honcho...

1. DON'T overexpose your cleavage
2. DO love summer's chicest piece: a white dress
3. DON'T go pink crochet all over
4. DON'T ever go this short (as in barely covering your butt "this" short)
5. DO belt your top
6. DO sport always-cool aviators
7. DON'T wear rubber flip-flops (try a strappy sandal instead)
8. DO own a great summer-weight suit
9. DON'T wear a dressy tank top that lets your bra straps show
10. DO buy a lightweight knee-length skirt (printed ones are hot now)
11. DO stock up on that summer staple: dresses
12. DO go natural - leave your makeup at home! (Say what?!)
13. DON'T wear a skirt smaller than your butt
14. DON'T be a metal mouth (i.e. tons of piercings in/on/around the mouth)
15. DO take your flip-flops from casual to fancy
16. DO embrace grown-up dresses
17. DO make sure clothes - even crazy, loud clothes - are fitted
18. DON'T match. Throw together a bunch of different color stuff; just keep the colors the same shade - brights w/ brights, etc.
19. Even those of us with wacky style, DO have a uniform
20. DON'T be afraid to buy five of the same skirts if they fit you perfectly
21. DO remember this tried-and-true way to achieve personal style: Only wear your favorite things!
22. DON'T wear sunglasses bigger than your bikini
23. If you wear a long, loose top, DO wear something slim-fitting on the bottom
24. DON'T wear high heels all the time! Flats & wedges feel new now
25. DON'T wear a sarong. Nothing is chicer than wearing a bikini w/ a button-down tied at your belly (Oh, I bet that's hot!)
26. DO take a break from the structured stuff
27. DON'T actively pursue a tan
28. DO wear coral nail polish
29. DO wear dresses - plain and simple
30. DON'T put on heavy makeup
31. DON'T let your thong peek out of the back of your jeans (Isn't this a year-round don't?!)
32. DO look smart and sexy in Clark Kent glasses
33. DON'T wear playmate heels, day or night
34. DON'T dress like a little girl
35. DON'T pay attention to the name on the label! Check out the garment and ask yourself, does this look well made?
36. DO avoid buying cheap linen, silk or sparkly anything: Those fabrics will look cheap too
37. DON'T wear all your budget trendy stuff together! The best way to wear a cheapie piece is to pair it w/ something classic & simple
38. Cheap or expensive, DON'T sweat the size on the tag. If it fits, it fits
39. DO ride a bike, but wear a helmet!
40. DO smile - It's summer!!!

I think the most important and true tip is that the clothes should fit propely - oversized or too small is just plain ugly.
