So this November will be my first Marine Corps Ball. Two years ago we went to a dinner thing where I wore a black flowy halter, cocktail dress, but seeing as it is a ball and the biggest event in the Marine Corps, I needed something fancier.

I'm not so sure about it as is though. I definately do not want it any longer, I just appear shorter. I was thinking I could add maybe a big bow type of thing on one side of my waist, or a gold scarf as a belt, IDK, I am so intimidated of accessorizing.

I don't even wanna think about the shoes! I want some 1" platform stilettos, I'll have to search though. And then my hair/MU, I'll have to experiment with or might have to go professional.

The dress was $19.99 at Ross, I'm so glad I found it. I really wanted something tropical or coral but it wouldn't look good against his uniform, I think. Red, navy, or black/brown were my best bets. The only thing I don't like is my calves/legs, I wish they were thicker.

Do you guys like the dress? Do you have any ideas to make it more exciting?

It's very pretty and looks great on you. I think it's good like that because of the detail in the front. Your accessories are going to be what makes it pop. Good Luck.

I would try it with some gold strappy heels and maybe a soft golden colored pashmina? Or you could totally rock it with some sexy red heels and go for the vintage glam kind of look. You could just really take that dress in so many directions!

that dress is hot! i can't believe the price! great deal and it fits great! i think a curly updo would make the whole outfit stand out! and of course a very fancy shoe and clutch!

Thanks so far! I really like the red shoes and they have little shiny stones, I wore them last time lol. I think red or gold shoes would look best! And a tan lol.

I really like this pic from an old magazine, The hat is too casual for the event, but I like the pearls/beads, I'm not sure if I should wear tights, maybe if the dress was shorter.

A pashmina is basically a scarf that you could use as a wrap. lol.

It's a cute dress. I like the idea of wearing a gold scarf as a sash with the dress! I think it would add a lot of interest to the look! As far as tights, I kind of agree...they'd look better if the dress was shorter (like the picture).

I totally agree! I think that it is a perfect dress for the ball. The red shoes would look fabulous with it. The Marine Corps ball is so awesome you'll have a blast!

I like StereoXGirl's idea of the gold sash...I also think strands of pearls would look great like in that picture you posted. I don't know which I like more. Either way, the dress is very pretty and it looks great on you .

I like the dress by itself - the dress reminds of the one girls wear at clubs, but I guess it depends how you pull your whole look together. A nice heel and just earrings would do fine. A bare neckline is better than having a whole shit load of jewelry all around. Earrings, heels, clutch. That leaves you with doing hair/makeup however you want!
