Khaki.....what?!
Alright, so tomorrow is my birthday and my best friend and boyfriend and my family and I are going to dinner at the cheesecake factory, one of my favorite restaurants! Anyways. I'm asking him to wear a turquoise polo and khakis.
So I attached a photo of the pants that he interpreted to be khaki. Now, I'm not afraid to be wrong...but I thought khakis were dull earth tones? Usually...khaki colored? I don't want to tell him that these are just black slacks if they are really possibly khakis.
So since I'm not an expert on khaki, someone care to enlighten me?

His interpretation

my interpretation, khaki shorts and a polo.

Re: Khaki.....what?!
khaki is that odd olive-y mustardy green colour in my oppinion (and I wouldn't really like that colour with turquoise!)
He is wearing black slacks, not khakis, but that is just my interpretation, lol.
he looks good in that outfit btw!

Re: Khaki.....what?!
That's what I thought. He'll be wearing the black SLACKS and dark shirt some other time.
Tomorrow night he's in the second outfit.

Re: Khaki.....what?!
I work in a men's clothing store and a lot people call any casual/ cotton pants khakis. I have no idea why this is. To me khaki is a color not a style.

Re: Khaki.....what?!
I would interpret khaki as a light green. The first pic is black and the second pic is tan. So, just curious, but why can't he wear what he wants to dinner!! LOL He looks good in both though!

Re: Khaki.....what?!
I think some people call any casual pant khaki because it is a name of a fabric and color.
This is what I picture when I think of khaki:
However, I do think the second outfit is more appropriate for the day, while the first outfit is better for a dinner at night.

He is a big boy, he can wear whatever makes him happy. But he didn't know what to wear and he's nervous about meeting my parents and he wanted me to choose. So I'm wearing a white and turquoise sun dress and now we will match. Super dorky, but it's cute I think. This is the only time we've coordinated clothes, I promise!

I personally think khaki is a colour not a style, but I do know what you are talking about, your idea is right though However, I actually like the first look! The black pants and purple shirt look nice together.

It's a night thing. But I don't want to get super dressy and we are all going casual. It's a long day tomorrow and my dad flies in at 7 so we are picking him up from the airport and going straight to dinner.

No you weren't rude at all! I totally understand what you mean, I feel controlling dressing him too. But he did ask me to, so he deals with the consequences!!!

Re: Khaki.....what?!
gee, I would have called that colour tan, not khaki. Or maybe beige?
It looks good though, I like both outfits. The first is a little smarter but you don't want to feel overdressed when you're meeting the parents, you want to feel comfortable!

Re: Khaki.....what?!
I agree, I wouldn't really dress up to the Cheesecake Factory either, since it is casual.
Either way, you guys will look great! Have a happy birthday!

Re: Khaki.....what?!
I'll make him wear the first outfit when I make him take me on a nice date later this week to celebrate my birthday. :]
I'll be sure to post a picture or two of us looking cute and matched. :]
I think I'm going to do a grey smokey eye, I have blue eyes and that makes them pop.
