24 Let's Play Dress Up!

when I was little, I ADORED dressing up. At school we had 'book week' where you had to dress up as a book character. Every year mum would make a fabulous costume out of cheap fabric, cardboard and god knows what else and I'd proudly go to school in it.

That got me thinking to how many people make costumes for fun as ADULTS.

Check out these gorgeous titanic costumes for example:

Sources: "Titanic" Reproductions by Other Seamstresses

and this one from Narnia:

source: The Wardrobe Door :: Narnia Costumes

Have you made any costumes before? maybe you could post them. If you could choose any to recreate and wear, what would you like to wear?

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

Most people around here buy/rent costumes from a specific costume store called "Features". It's really awesome, actually. That's where my mom gets costumes for her plays.

We also have a festival here called "Gasparilla" in which a huge "Pirate" ship travels into Tampa Bay, and the mayor hands over the key to the city to the pirates and there's a huge parade with the people on floats throwing beaded necklaces and candy to the onlookers. There's also fireworks. And there's a later evening "adult" parade as well. Anyways, a whole bunch of people dress up in pirate costumes. It's a lot of fun. Most of them get their costumes there as well.

The ship:

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

I am jealous at the actresses who can wear gorgeous costumes and dresses and have the hair and makeup done to complete their look. That must be amazing.

If I could choose a costume to recreate (I wish I was great in making those costumes!) it would be the Catwoman suit from Michelle Pfeiffer. Just for fun & carnaval!

Or, that would be a dream... all the Sissi dresses, worn by Romy Schneider

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

I love the Narnia dress. Soooo femmy!!
Every now and then I go to Renn Faires because it is THE best place to find cheap sterling silver jewelry and some of those girls realy have some gorgeous costumes.
Dunno if they make 'em or rent 'em, but they're pretty all the same!
I love to dress up but I pretty much have to save it for Halloween. I don't have any other occassions, otherwise; not yet anyway. I take belly dance and hope to start performing next year. Then it's onnnnnnn!!!

My dad made me a costume for a school presentation once. We had to dress up and he's good at sewing.

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

i guess i "dress up" at times.
well like depending on if im motivated. sometimes i will go all out and go all 50s or mod (authentic 60s mod). or dress up as a pinup in my apt. when i get really bored.

and if im really motivated, go all lolita-cosplay.

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

i'm in !!

although i never tried, i'm all thumbs, not sure i could sew an entire dress.

allow me to share my passion for long, elvish dresses. i absolutely want one. ah, if i could pick one in Arwen's closet.. i'd steal them all !

i like victorian and medieval dresses as well.

whne i was little i did a show in which i was wearing a perfectly ridiculous costume to look like a ladybug (even had antennas -_-°). i also dressed up as Jane (my brother was Tarzan).
i was also a member of a theatre club, so i dressed up as a noble woman, a maid (haha, even i had a broom i threw to the other side of the scene), a young girl, and others i forget right now.

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

I live for costumes!!!! seriously- live for it. It's one of my favorite reasons for throwing parties, to come up with themes to dress up for it.
I heart Halloween, and parades, and masquarades, and all things costumie.

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

lol costumie?

seriously though I do like costumes. I dressed us the craziest things as a child, dorothy from the wizard of oz (mum stuck red sequins all over my shoes!) the little mermaid..

I'll have to see if I can find photos, LOL

Re: Let's Play Dress Up!

i think i responded in one of those threads. the ones i've got picked out are Marie Anoinette, Cleopatra (who i learned a ton about reading a 3rd graders book report!), someone from the 1940a and a Hippy girl.
