Re: pants

My hips are also disproportionately small compared to my waist (or my waist is too large compared to my hips!) and I have a hard time finding jeans that aren't baggy in the hips or bottom! (Well, some of the ultra-low pants work since they fit so low it doesn't matter what your waist size is, but I don't like them that low!) My best pair of jeans are SO brand, just their regular flare cut, which I've found at Kohl's. They fit in the butt and and thighs and actually give me a little bit of curve, and they also have a slight flare leg which I like -- not as big of a flare as some other Junior's jeans. They also have a mid-rise waist and fit no more than an inch below my belly button. Plus, they are only $30 regularly priced, and you can often catch them on sale for $15-$20!

If you're looking for dress pants, I currently have 3 pairs of the same pant (in 3 different colors, of course!) made by Star City. Star City had two different cuts of dress pants in L. S. Ayres, and I like the one with the narrower waistband. They are also mid-rise, fitted in the hips, straight through the leg -- very flattering, the straight leg makes me look so tall and lean, while the fitted hips give me a little bit of a butt! My pinstriped pair makes me look especially tall and slender when I wear my high-heeled boots and a fitted shirt!

For reference, I have a 27-inch waist and only 33-inch hips ... most clothes are made for the "ideal" figure which is a 10-inch difference between the hips and waist! I've noticed that I usually have better luck in the Junior's department than the Misses -- I guess it's because Juniors are made to fit 13-year-olds who don't have hips yet, while clothing designers assume that anyone shopping in Misses has hips! lol (Makes it hard to find "grown-up" clothes for work, but I manage!)

Re: pants

Mexx, City DKNY, Old Navy, Gap are good bets for a larger abdomen/smaller hip for dress pants. I have a big waist compared to my hips (Missy size 10) and those fit me the best.

Yeah, I forgot I have a pair of Old Navy dress pants ("Low Waist" cut) that fit well in the waist and hips, they're just a little too short so I don't wear them often! And Gap used to fit me well when I was a different weight but right now I am in between their sizes. Most of my pants are a size 3-5 (or Misses 2-4) ... I would love to gain some more weight in my hips so pants will fit better, but what little weight I can gain with my high metabolism goes straight to my tummy
