Fun Going to the Movies?
Is it me or is going to the movies becoming less than fun any more?
My wife hates going to the movies on weekends.... because of the crowds and all... But I convinved her that Ironman has been out a while and everyone else will be going to see Wall-E.... So she bought it... Boy was I wrong... Well we get there and of coarse the lines are terrible and it takes forever to get a snack... and we get into the theater (20 screen megaplex) and it was surprisingly packed... except the top row... Was empty.. So we wandered up there and sit down... The seats are all broken, and were laying back like a lounger which I thought was pretty comphy... She didn't.. So were sitting there and up comes an older guy and his family and plops down next to me.... and then a father with 3 young kids sits next to my wife.... So were trapped... lol Once the movie starts the family next to me pulls out all the snacks they snuck in.... crunchy loud snacks.. I could barely hear the dialogue... and then during the movie, this guy has the anoying habit of saying what everyone else is thinking. "Come one Peper.... you can do it" or "At a boy Ironman... Kick his ass." Ekkkkkkkk I said "shussssshhhh" a few times but it wasn't sinking in... So on my wife's side... the 3 little ones talked the whole time..... and they had slurpies so the were making squeeky noises with their straws and bouncing in their broken seats... the whole show.... The father yelled at them a few times and a few of the other patrons said something but it didn't help at all.... It was the movie experience from hell.... It was like being in your livingroom... watching a movie with a whole bunch of noisey people you really don't like... As we left the theater, my wife gave me one of those "NEVER EVER AGAIN..." looks.... and I knew I wasn't going to hear the end of this for a long time.... But from the parts I heard... and what I remember, Ironman was a pretty good movie... lol guess I'll have to rent the DVD when it comes out!! Let's hear your worst movie experience...

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I love going to the movies, hopefully that was just one awful experience for you. I don't really have one, but one time the people mext to me, snuck in a bucket of chicken and a box of pizza, and they asked me and my husband if we wanted some! Lmao! We said no, but i thought it was to funny! Movie snack bar prices are higher than the actual movie, so I don't blame them!

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I haven't gone to see a movie in at least 2 years, because I seem to have the same experiences. And they play movies so much louder now, rude people talking on their cell phones, etc. You get a really crappy experience for the high price of a movie ticket. I actually walked out mid-movie once and got a refund, because it was impossible to hear and enjoy the movie. I think the main problem is that theaters don't enforce any rules.

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I want to see Hancock too!! I love Will Smith.... Tuesday nights seem to be slow nights for the theaters around here... And I've been there when my wife and I are the only ones there.. Which is nice...
And how the heck do you sneak a pizza into a movie?? Lol

People are so uncouth nowadays, I get so tempted to hit them.
And I get so annoyed when the parents don't tell their children to behave. It's so inconsiderate.

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
Dude, I hear ya!!!! I RARELY go to the movies. I seriously go maybe once a year.
The last movie I saw was the remake of Halloween. My fiance and I were excited because we both liked the original. We actually went the opening night. BIG MISTAKE. We had these 4 teenage girls next to us that came late, left early (both times stepping all over us) and whispered and giggled loudly throughout the movie. Then we had these 2 teenage boys (that couldn't have been old enough to see a rated "R" movie) in front of us that kept saying "yeah!" or "I can't believe that!!!" and bouncing in their seats. My fiance had to tell them a couple of times to chill out. Of course they didn't listen. With all of that and a bad movie, we ended up leaving early. I've never done that before! I haven't been back to the movie theaters since! ![]() |

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I used to love going to the movies but not anymore!
If someone's sitting behind you they end up kicking your seat (or once I was watching a film and the person behind me kept putting their feet on the back of my chair which was very annoying as she was sooo fidgity and despite me asking politley about 4 times for her to put her feet down she did it anyway), people crunch on their snacks loudly (this annoys me in general not just in the movies), people talk, mobile phones ring even though it reminds you to switch your phone off a trillion times before the film, there's always queues a mile long to get your ticket and get in to begin with and the snacks cost more than seeing the actual film. This is why I don't go to the movies lol I get so annoyed that it just isn't worth it. Sometimes I think that maybe I should just relax and stop being so picky ![]()

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I enjoy going to the movies... I travel an extra 10 minutes to go to a much wider, quieter (at times) theater then the one in my city which is just nasty and never maintained.
But the one I go to now is getting more crowded, but I'll tend to watch movies some weeks after it released so I don't catch the crowds. I really hate going when a large group of pre-teens/teens go. They're always the loudest and tries to be funny. I remember one time, this group started a popcorn fight right next to us. I thought that was so rude, especially since they had sneaked in there and wasn't even paying attention. I told some employee afterward but she didn't do shit. The worst that I can remember was when we went to go see 1408 and the place was not crowded at all. There were 2 damn hillybilly, OLDER ladies sitting a row behind us. One kept on talking and talking... and since the movie was a thriller, she made fake noises like "oooh, aaah scared" or some BS like that. My friend would NOT allow me to shush her (didn't want me making a scene)... but I did it a few times. Some couple next to the hillybillies... we can hear the dude actually go, "just shut up". It was pretty funny. Finally, towards the end - I snapped and said "some people need to SHUT UP" and we got silence for the last 15 minutes left of the film. I really don't understand some folks and their manners. I always put my phone on vibrate because it's just embarrassing for it to go off. I munch my food quietly. Too me, you pay $9 for a movie, why would you distract yourself and others from the film? When I was 12 and went with friends... I was always the one trying to watch the film while my friends goofed off. And my little sister is at that age where she rather fool around then watch the film and I told her off several times from these stories she told me, it's just stupid. You look stupid instead of funny. For better experiences, go to matinee's on weekends and at night - go on weekdays.

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I've never had an experience as unpleasant as yours Karen, but I hate it when people seem to be trying to out do each other with their loud laughter. Of course everyone laughs when something's funny, but I'm talking about obnoxious, seemingly on-purpose cackling.

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
I haven't been to the movies in ages. Mainly because we're broke all the time, but also because the people that attend the movies have no common sense, not to mention way too expensive. I've had a couple of bad experiences before.
My first one when I went to see Blair Witch Project. I was all excited because like a sucker, I fell for the previews of it being scarier than hell. I'm always on the look out for something that's really going to scare the crap out of me. So, if you have any ideas, please let me know. Anyways, My bf @ the time and I get our seats. The theatre wasnt packed at all. It was us 2 and 5 other people. These 2 ladies have to sit right in front of us. As the movie is playing they're screaming, yelling, praying....yes, actually praying..Jumping up and down out of their seats. So we moved seats to get away from them. Not 10 mins later they leave the theatre and come back with snacks...and sit right next to us just a few seats over. Doing the same annoying crap as before. Then my bf starts complaining hes getting motion sickness. I told him we could leave and he told me no, hed brave it out. Finally the movie and praying were over. Crappy movie, annoying loud people that were completely oblivious to the fact they weren't in there alone, and my bf at the time, got motion sickness from it...UGH! The 2nd one, Victor took me to see Nightmare before Christmas 3-D at the IMAX theatre since its one of my favs and happened to open the day after my birthday. We get our snacks and sit down. Now is the time I should mention that Victor has low tolerance for screaming kids. So, in walks this family, mom, dad, 5 kids and a frikkin new born!!! A new born has no reason to be at the theatre whatsoever in my opinion. If you can't find a sitter, then you don't go to the movies, you frikkin think for yourself'ers!! That child screamed almost through the whole thing and they refused to take the baby out. The manager came in and told them they needed to either take the baby outside until it calmed down, or they need to leave all together. The baby was screaming so loud, that the theatres next to us were complaining. It was awful!! Then the wife started raising her voice to the manager telling him that theres nothing he could do, and that they paid money to see the movie, and its not their fault the baby is crying and the other people in the theatre cant tolerate it. Then she started screaming discrimination and that was gonna call the cops for herassment. The manager did that for her, and in about 5 mins the cops came and escorted the family out...with the mother kicking and screaming. It was quite the scene. What is wrong with today's society!?!?!

Re: Fun Going to the Movies?
Honestly, I've only gone to the movies a handful of times (maybe a dozen...max) but I always have similiar experiences to the one's ya'll have posted. Unruly kids, people sneaking in stinky food, people talking on their cell phones, people talking in general, people constantly entering and leaving the theater...the worst experience, though, was when I went to see the thriller "Whitenoise" (p.s. a terrible movie...if you get the chance to see it...DON'T); there were two guys who had already seen it they and kept |
