I'm SOOOOO over the Army
I hate doing any type of official business with the Army. It's all a LOAD. I go to the hospital today to set up our Tricare (health insurance) here, since we signed up at Redstone, AL. Well, I was happy to find that the hospital was actually set up in a way that I could find my way around, but still disappointed in the service.
Here goes... I went to the first office, took care of everything, all is well. They tell me to go to Admissions so they can key in my info, so I can go ahead and set up an appt with the ob/gyn. I go up there, tell them I need to be keyed in so I can go to the ob/gyn, and they send me down the hall to the actual ob/gyn offfice. So, I head down there, wait in line, and finally the lady at the desk calls me up. She gets my id, looks for me in the computer, cant find me, blah, blah, blah. She tells me that I need to go Admissions to get keyed in, I tell her I already went there, and they sent me here, she cocks an attitude and tells me that I need to either go back over there and get it done, or wait 3-5 days until it automatically gets done. I'm like, well, I had a miscarriage last year, I need to get an appt asap, I can't wait 3-5 days. She goes "well, we dont do... you know what, we'll just talk when you come back." By then, I'm walking out the door in tears. (I'm super emotional, and when I'm mad I cry) We go BACK to admissions, turns out, they had never put my husband in the system. So, they had to put him in, asked for his MOS, and said it wasn't in the computer, so they put down some BS MOS for him, UGHHHHHHH. By now, I'm shaking. The guy gets Eric in, then puts me in, and tries to put Alana in. And he freaks out because Alana has a different last name (she still has my maiden name), and freaking argues with my husband over her name... Like what, we named her, but dont know what name we chose? We FINALLY finish that and go back to the ob/gyn office. We stand in line again, get called up, the lady asks about my last period, tells me I'm "only" about 6 weeks, they can't see me that early, blah, blah, blah. Sets me up an appt for "orientation" next Monday, and from there they will decide whether or not they need to see me "before my time". While she's setting up the appt, Eric asked her if we could see an off-post dr, and she says that I don't get to make that decision. The only way I can see an off-post ob/gyn is if I do the POS option, which requires a co-pay and such.
This is why I procrastinate so horribly when it comes to doing any paperwork with the Army. I always seem to end up upset and almost hyperventilating.
I swear, this whole situation makes me want to hop in my little civic, drive back to NC, and see my old Dr.

I'm sorry Kat! I remember having to deal with Tri-Care! It was such a pain. I hope you get it all worked out soon and find a good doc!

GAH! I hated the system. I'm sorry you had such a run around. My husband was in the Army for about 6 years, and every duty station was set up so stupid.

Re: I'm SOOOOO over the Army
i feel you. the military has always been a heap of bureaucracy. i always avoided going to the doc when i was in the service, unless i had to. being an officer in operations probably helped out a lot as well. i've heard nothing but complaints from dependents.

Re: I'm SOOOOO over the Army
Geez....don't people know not to mess with a pregnant girl. I swear people that deal with the public need to take sensativity classes. I am sorry you had to get so upset while you are pregnant. I am the same way, when I get angry I cry.
I hope it is easier from here on out, since they finally have you all in the "system" correct. Take care and try to relax!

Re: I'm SOOOOO over the Army
Sorry you went through all the crap. I know that when I served, it was always a "hurry up and wait".
In Canada, only the military members use military hospital services.
However, I did know a medic that delivered civilian women's babies in a base in northern Canada.
But when it comes to pregnancy and delivery, military women can use a civilian doctor and public hospital.
I'm curious if other countries allows family members of service personel to use military hospitals or if this is unique to the US?

Re: I'm SOOOOO over the Army
C, I'm not sure how it works here, I don't think that you do get health cover, but the way our medical system is very different from the way it works in the US anyway, so it's not as necessary to have family members paid for like that, if it makes sense.
Kat, that woman sounds like a retard. Did she have any idea what she was doing? did the guy who had the issue with the names? honestly! why are people so foolish!
I cry when I get mad too. As D said, I know it's hard but it's best for the baby if you can calm down and try not to let it get to you. It will get sorted out soon hopefully!
hug!

Re: I'm SOOOOO over the Army
Thank you all for your lovely responses. I'm glad I wasn't totally overreacting. I am feeling better now, really excited for Monday to come so I can get the blood work done and everything, & hopefully get an actual due date.
Carolyn, here all dependents are covered under pretty good insurance. We do use the military hospitals, and normally that's the only place they want you going. We do have the a | |
