Stop or go through?

I just started a new education to become an oral hygienic and I like it a lot, except the fact that I cant seem to understand the biology part...

But more important...Everytime we have this practical lessons my hands and wrists are really sore the rest of the day and even in the evening I still feel some pain, its sometimes that bad that I cant even get something to drink for myself, since I cant lft the bottle with one hand anymore and have to do it like a little child...using 2 hands and 2 hands for drinking as well, since Im shaking like crazy
I think its a joint problem but I'm not really sure
I was a kickboxer for 6,5 years and 2 years professional as well, than I had this accident and broke my back and some other bones, since than Im able to box anymore or do other types of hard sports, except for swimming and other light stuff
I have therapie for over 3 years now, and the therapist told me that this wont go away by therapie and that I have to deside if its a good idea to go through or not.

I like the progamme, but I dont like the pain, since its going to be the thing I will be doing the next 40 years or so...
I dont really know what to do
I know I will be in pain every time we have the practical lessons and when Im practising myself but I dont want to be like this quiter since the other girls in the programme dont really take this serious and the teacher dont either...

Re: Stop or go through?

That's a tough one... Have you looked to get a second opinion of pain management? There may be medications that will take care of the pain and allow you to proceed with your new carrier... Before I would quit I'd look into every possible alternative... If you can't find anything then I'd change carrier tracks.. Living and working with that much pain would not be a suitable option, in my humble opinion

Re: Stop or go through?

Thanks Karren
I think pain medication wont be an alternative since most medication is only good for about a few years and than you have to find something new and so on
I am healthy except the broken ones a few years ago and the little tail that story got from there on...and most medication has downsides as well (weight gain, liver and kidney problems later on etc) I dont know if all that is worth this carrier
I dont really know what other alternatives there will be except for the medication...I dont really know where to start looking if you know what I mean?

Re: Stop or go through?

I agree with Karren, I'd explore any other options that are available before deciding what to do next.
If nothing works and you're still in pain then you may have to decide if the job is worth coping with the pain. Will you really be able to handle the pain for the rest of your life?
Have a talk with your therapist next time you go and see if she knows of any alternative treatments (there could be surgery, medication of alternative therapy) and if not then have a think about the job.
Best of luck

Re: Stop or go through?

Man that is quite a delimma. I would go to your doctor and try to talk to them about surgery to get this pain to go away. This seems like a career you really want to go with but you shouldn't have to take deal with this.

Re: Stop or go through?

It's tough finding a job you like but be physically unable to do it...

I'm with Karren, exhaust your medical options... Then you will know the decision to make.
Good luck chick.
