Has anyone seen MTV's fat camp?

Is it just me or are a lot of the girls fairly healthy?

okay the majority of them are obese, maybe some are a bit chunky. But at least one third of the female campers were not obese at all, just not a "rock hard cut" and svelte size four.

All of the male campers were overweight from a range of 30+ extra pounds to being obese; corpulent.

It makes me want to throw a brick at someone! Why only women and young girls?

I have had people call me "fat" and my measurements are 36-28-39.5. I fit comfortably into a size nine. I gt around allright and my husband likes it fine.

I find most 50s pinup stars far more fetching than lots of today's famous women, too many of them look like poster children of the binge and purge camp.
What is really goin' on?

Re: Has anyone seen MTV's fat camp?

Some of these shows are completely moronic and have a very clear double standard.

10 pounds doesn't make a girl fat. No wonder so many girls have screwed up body images.

Re: Has anyone seen MTV's fat camp?

Girls have always made it more obvious how body concious they are. They have to willingly sign up for it and maybe much larger girls didn't get chosen to be on? Or maybe they had such low confidence that they wouldn't want to be on TV. I do think it's sad though that girls care so much. As long as they're healthy it shouldn't matter what size you are. Sizes are so subjective anyway and with vanity sizing being so common it's awful that girls will beat themselves up over being a size bigger in another store that doesn't do that.

Re: Has anyone seen MTV's fat camp?

The camp itself isn't a "fat" camp... I read somewhere saying it just helps kids learn how to have a healthy lifestyle all while help loosing weight.

From the show, I'm assuming it counseling there isn't all that great - especially if staffers are teens themselves. Or else that one girl who weighed like 140 lbs wouldn't have such bad body image issues because to me, she's average... unless she's short... and her issues would've been addressed. But I wouldn't know because they don't discuss that at all.

The first series was more interesting and they had a boys who had body image issues and some were thin, etc. So to say only the girls have body image issues and only boys are truly overweight at that camp is generalizing because we only did get the story from 5+ people. Who knows, some of the campers might have been returners or they lost a lot of weight already during shooting so the place looks like it's filled with thin kiddies?

I saw both episodes also, and I think that is exactly what has happened a lot of the kids that were there when they were heavier have come back. THey even said see you next year when they were leaving. I also saw some of the kids there that were on the last episode.

Re: Has anyone seen MTV's fat camp?

That happens a lot at weight loss camps.
I was at one for a summer, and a lot of the girls there were twigs. I asked them why they were there.
Its cause they'd been there for years.
So when you make friends, the work isn't as hard.

Re: Has anyone seen MTV's fat camp?

I was surprised to see girls at what looked like healthy weight there. It's so sad so many young women think they need to be so skinny to be okay with themselves but I'd rather see girls at a camp with controlled meals and exercise activities than starving themselves or worse at home.
