The "American Idol" contestant releases his first album.
Two years after being voted off "American Idol,"
CONSTANTINE MAROULIS is thriving in Hollywood.
In addition to his recent stint on the small screen (playing a music producer on "The Bold and the Beautiful"), he's been acting on Broadway and starting his own record label.
Indeed, he's seen little rest since his "Idol" departure, and he's just released his long-awaited debut album,
Constantine. The album is a hodge-podge of sounds from classic rock, soul and Latin pop. Like "American Idol," the variety caters to the wide range of fans Constantine gained on the show. Of his large fanbase, he tells RockMyMonkey.com, "It's the 'American Idol' effect, I think I can stream across the whole spectrum."
And, indeed, his album does not disappoint no matter what genre he chooses. On the single, "Everybody Loves," the infectious guitar-driven hook reminds of
PAUL McCARTNEY -- with its "nah nah nahs" and universal rant, "Everybody Loves, everybody cries, everybody dreams of a perfect life." It's a fun sing-along song for the summer.
The album starts off with "Girl Like You," a seemingly lost
RICKY MARTIN tune which Constantine shines on. In another stand-out song about love, "Favorite T-Shirt," Constantine shows the lighter side of a break-up. Like most songs on the album, he incorporates simple melodies and memorable lyrics tinged with repetitive "ooohs" and "yeahs." Though the album does show some depth on "So Long" and "Heaven Help the Lonely," it's a mostly upbeat album that shows versatility and mass appeal.
The Berklee College of Music graduate tells RockMyMonkey.com he has no qualms with "Idol" judge
SIMON COWELL, "I've got not one bad word to say about the guy. He's a good friend of mine. He's a drinking buddy. And you know, he basically plays a character on television, and he's good at it." No one disputes that Simon is a character, while Constantine is much harder to figure out. His eclectic album is a work of art whose beauty will be found in the ear of the beholder.
The album was released on Constantine's own label, 6th Place Records, alluding to his sixth-place finish on "Idol." Though no official tour has been announced, Constantine has said that he will tour nationwide in the fall, and he already has a media tour set to promote his self-titled release.
