I think that the best way to apply any kind of eyeliner (except pencils) is to do so in short even strokes. Just small lines that all connect together. That is how I apply my eyeliner and it always looks great...not broken or uneven. When you've got the line you want, then you can go over that with some longer, more fluidly connected lines.
Maybe I'll do a tutorial...but I don't know how well I can do that with a picture tutorial...but, something is better than nothing, right?

Hmmm...After reading this I might give f/l another try, a sample is a good idea. It's just so scary when eyeliner goes wrong.
And a tutorial would be great!

Re: Eyeliner...
with pencil i go from the outside of my lid to the inside. it seems to give me more control. with liquid you just have to keep practicing. it takes a very steady hand. just make sure not to get too much product on your brush. i just dip my brush in about half way and make sure it's very pointy. then just try to stay close to the lash line. good luck!

It does also change the angle you are holding the pencil or brush at, and this makes the application more comfortable so the hand glides along easily even with a thin pointy liquid liner brush. Also try doing this with a magnifying mirror maybe. Practice really will help, and it will take time to perfect it, but try looking down into the mirror rather than straight up face on at it - hopefully it will help!

Hi,
Great tip.

Re: Eyeliner...
I think I'm going to try that dot trick. I don't really have a problem putting eyeliner on but I think that would just make it all the more easier. Where does everyone wear their eyeliner. Top and bottom, just top or just bottom. I usually wear mine on just the top but I put it on the inside of my lid. I know that is supposed to be bad for your eye but it looks good on my eye shape and I've never had any problems. I just recently started putting it on my undereye but it has to be a very very thin line otherwise it just looks terrible.

It's really a matter of personal style and preference. How far do you like to draw the line? Me, personally, if I'm just putting on "every day make-up", I'll stop right at the corner. If I'm doing the "special make-up" I'll go more dramatic and pull the eyeliner out further. It's all about how YOU want to do it. There is really no right or wrong way to do it.

i just felt i needed to come back and update..i tried the mirror trick and used black pencil first followed by a liquid (the pencil wasn't as dark as i would have liked but the thickness was perfect).
SUCCESS!!!
i got the vampy, kind of gothic look i was going for (used the semi-smokey eye tutorial along with it)--my best friend kept telling me how hot it looked all evening and that i should wear eyeliner all the time now lol. i'm hooked!!
thank you ladies! you are wonderful!

I agree, just tried them and they rock, I use brush #266.
And I was also bad at applying eyeliner, so give it a shot!

Re: Eyeliner...
Greetings All,
I'm really bad with the liquid eyeliner but I like the look better than a pencil.
A simple pencil trick that works well for me is to warm up the the tip of the pencil (not too much) with a lighter. It flows on nicely and you can control it.
