Re: Skin Care & Makeup - Rosacea

Well, the pen just distributes a little drop of green-colored cream, and you dot it on red spots like you would use a highlighter. I like mine the best (after trying different ways) when I apply it after moisturizer and little bronzer. I dot it on the red spots, and then apply a tinted moisturizer or foundation over. I guess it would work different on every person though : )
Thanks so much for posting such great stuff!

Re: Skin Care & Makeup - Rosacea

That's really cool. I've seen the green corrective makeup in cream form but I haven't tried yet. I keep thinking it would show through my foundation but I'll give this one a try and see what it looks like. Your welcome!

Re: Official Rosacea Thread

Ladies,

Do you know of any websites with photos at different stages. My skin has been red for the last few years. I am now 37. I don't have bumps or patches though. It is more the overall redness that annoys me. My neck is ghost white in contrast to me face. I know a derm should be able to tell me, but I am hoping I can see some examples to get a better idea of whether that is necessary.

Thanks,
Holly

Unhappy Re: Official Rosacea Thread

I can't believe I didn't come across this thread sooner. Here I am sitting in front of the computer looking up WebMd and also this forum to try and understand why I am having a flareup!!

In another thread that I posted earlier about some skincare products, my skin was doing fine. I got the Sundari Pitta oil that seemed to calm my red spots down for a while. But all of a sudden, wham! I woke up with my face feeling itchy all over with little red bumps as if little mites or bugs had bitten me all over. It has happened before, and I would take a Claritin pill for hives, thinking I ate something I was allergic to. But I've been really careful....

The more I read up on this subject, the more I believe I may have early signs of rosacea... I do not have flushing on face, but I do have little red bumps all over one side, and they flare up now and then. I have always attributed this to probably food (nuts?) or environmental (dog? goosedown comforter?) allergens -- which I still have to rule out by visiting an allergist sometime down the road. Even the part about sensitivity to light applied! I would always develop itchy red bumps all of a sudden, at various times, on various areas of my face during the daytime at work. And I am diligent about NOT touching my face... so I knew it couldn't have been bacteria from my hands or hair. It was so embarrassing and still continues to embarrass me, leaving me quick to run and cover it up with concealer or rub my Cellex-C perfecting pen so the swelling would go down.

I live in the Los Angeles area... does anyone have a dermatoligst rec who is good at detecting this condition? The last derm I went to just looked me really quickly and prescribed me with Cleocin T and NutraCort lotion (hydrocortisone prescription) to calm my face down (it had severe dry patches from me trying to treat the red bumps/pimples at the time).

When will I feel less itchy and go out without so much coverup? Any recs for a derm in the LA area would be much appreciated. Or any recs for skincare in the meantime would be greatly appreciated! You can email me at g_beli@yahoo.com.

Re: Official Rosacea Thread

Hi folks,

Long time no post....I have been following this thread though via email when someone posts.

Quick update on my rosacea situation. I saw the dermatologist today for the first time. She was fabulous. She has prescribed Plexion cleanser and Noritate cream for my condition. I have a follow up with her in 8 weeks. She says the medication takes about 6 weeks to kick in so here's hoping for less blushing for me soon!
Will keep y'all updated!

Genie

Re: Official Rosacea Thread

Hi again,

BTW, I really appreciate all the posts in this thread so far... it's been helpful to know that others are going through relatively the same stuff!

As for my update, it's been about a week or so since my derm appt. I still remain mixed about my dermatologist, but at least my skin had finally cleared up during this past weekend. My hubby even commented how *glowly* my skin looked on sunday, as I barely wore any makeup over my sunscreen moisturizer.
However, I awoke yesterday morning with a few red itchy bumps yet again, and am suspecting a few things that might be the cause:

- forgetting to take my Nicomide vitamins for 2 days?
- exercising at the gym on sunday night
(my hubby and I had not gone in over 2 months!) ?
- using my Osmotics Illuminating Hydrating Complex SPF 15
(possible reaction to ingredients or perhaps low spf content) ?
- sleeping under our goosedown blanket without a flat sheet in between
(possible allergy to goosedown material) ?
- not using my nutracort lotion at all during the whole weekend?

What do you gals think? Opinions on the osmotics moisturizer i used?
Here are the ingredients:
Active Ingredients ~ Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Avobenzone
Other Ingredients ~ Water, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Propylene Glycol Isoceteth-3 Acetate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, PPG-2 Isoceteth-20 Acetate, Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Cholecalciferol, Symphytum Officinale Extract, Cu***is Sativus (Cu***ber) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Extract, Sambucus Migra Flower Extract, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Extract, Rosa Canina (Dog Rose) Leaf Extract, Fragrance, Propylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer.

Meanwhile, I am eagerly awaiting for the Dermatologica Solar Defense Booster SPF 30, and MD Formulations Critical Care Calming Gel.
I've been looking at various sunscreen recs, and still feel somewhat confused by all the European brands... am leaning towards the Vichy SPF 60 ... but am feeling hesitant to purchase due to fears of possible breakouts/reactions to them.
I still need a moisturizer with SPF as my skin gets really patchy dry due to the eczema/dermatitis.

Anyways, sorry for such a long post, but am feeling the love from everyone!
Keep those posts coming!

Smile Re: Official Rosacea Thread

Hi, My name is Lisa, and I'm new to Makeup Talk. I was so happy to see this thread. I am 37 and have suffered from rosacea for about 7 years. I tried the usual meds like Metrogel/cream and minocycline with marginal results (the minocycline would clear up the "acne" component well). Benzamycin (sp?) applied topically worked well once I couldn't take oral antibiotics due to pregnancy and nursing.

I got tired of paying $75 a bottle for the Benzmycin, which only lasts 30 days before it gets all gummy. Anyway, I recently tried gentle at-home glycolic peels and that worked for me to clear up the break outs (L'Oreal Renoviste). This was an unexpected side effect of an attempt to deal with my skin's intolerance for most exfoliants!

I feel like I'm fighting two battles at this stage--redness/acne from rosacea as well as the usual aging issues (sun damage, fine lines, etc). It's hard when so many anti-aging products and treatments are off-limits with rosacea! I'd love to hear what has worked for those of you with the same issue.

Has anyone tried IPL (intense pulsed light)? I just had my first treatment.

Also, I have a question about virgin coconut oil. May be a stupid one---but do you mean to apply it topically or take it orally?

Thanks! I'm very glad to have found this thread!

Lisa

I am glad to hear about L'oreal renoviste. I have been thinking about trying it.

My dermatologist said I can continue on my current anti aging regimine. I use the Principal Secret Reclaim line. The only thing she said to substitute was my Plexion cleanser for the Reclaim cleanser and I need to put the medicated ointment on after cleansing and before the anti aging stuff. I have been doing this for a week now (almost) and it seems to be working out ok...no irritation .
I find the Reclaim stuff to be very gentle. It doesn't irritate my skin at all.
As far as the redness goes...I still have some flushing, but the Dr says the ointment takes about 6 weeks to kick in. I am hoping to "get the red out!"

Cool Re: Official Rosacea Thread

I have found a skin care line that has been great for my Rosacea!!

If you haven't heard of Arbonne - you need to check it out!! I started using the oil free line and it has worked wonders!! I have been to several health seminars for these products - they are all natural products. I have plenty of info I can share if you are interested.

Does anyone know of a topical product that diminishes dilated blood vessels on the nose caused by rosacea?

Talking Re: Official Rosacea Thread

Hi,
I went to the doctor thinking I had rosacea. So he gave me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. I reacted to both the generic and the real brand stuff so I just let it go. It looks like maybe he should/could have run a test or two. This makes me so mad. Right now I'm using Oil of Olay and it seems to be helping but I have to do it night and day other wise my skin looks horrible. Not only do I have a redness problem. I also have a acne problem. I thought I would be done with this at 23, but I'm not. I'm going to try a different doctor. I'll insist on some topical stuff this time. Thanks for this forum and all the helpful infor on here. I wish a doctor would just tell me what my problem is whether its really rosacea or not, but i think it is. My face has been red for many years and it gets worse at certain times of the day.
