Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
I don't wear heels as I have really flat feet. Also I have a back problem & my back hurts when I wear even moderate heels for sometime. As you said, I definitely see lots of people in flats these days but then when I go to the store to buy some flats, it's such a challenge. Most flats are so poorly made or damn too expensive for a pair of flats...LOL!! But I do have to agree that I do find quite a few of them out there now than before.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
Flats have been in for some years now - if it's a trend - that's one long ass trend.
It most likely has to do with convenience, comfort and the style. It's much quicker to put on a pair of flats and just walk out the door. It's more comfortable to wear when out dancing or walking some distance (I always see girls bringing a pair of flip flops to the clubs, just never understood why they don't just wear flats) and the style of flats are becoming more and more cuter, imo.
I own nothing but flats. I just like them. I do like my one wedge-heel, haha... I'm just not comfortable to own more heels.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
- the heels available are much thinner and higher than before, or flat. Hardly any mid-height heels
- Not to blame men, but less men stand up on buses and trains for women. It's hard to balance in super high heels if there are no seats
- Stilettos are hard to maintain - they get caught in cracks and need to be reheeled. In these days of financial hardship, it's difficult to keep reheeling shoes.
- My mum suggested that skirts are shorter and that lower heels look less skanky with super short skirts!
For me its definitely not to impress men, but I do love heels and I prefer them for myself, they sure do make my legs and posture a lot better. I have had my fair share of uncomfortable heels and I end up selling them on Ebay. There are heels I can wear all day and others I cannot, it depends on the shoe.
Also in my cir***stances I do not get to wear them every day so its a little bit of a novelty for me when I do. If I know I am going to do some major walking I will wear ballet flats or shoes with just a bit of a heel or a wedge.
I do think the shift to flats is convenience, wearing stilettos all day every day would be a chore and there are some cute flats available now.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
I am a stilleto girl for life, though sometimes practicality provails and you need to wear flats.
I personally noticed a shift in my shoe style once I started working. I'm on my feet all day so it wasn't practical nor comfortable for me to wear heels. Luckily these days there appears to be a lot more variety when it comes to flats, and there are a lot of prettier styles out there to choose from. I know when I had to go shoe shopping for flats for work I was really dreading it as I thought "all flat shoes are ugly", though I was pleasantly surprised to find some really cute styles out there, I have a lot of ballet flats and a few stylish pointy flats that I wear to work.
On the weekends/evening my heels come out to play! They're in better condition than my flats too as they are not worn all the time, so they'll last longer, I guess that is one advantage
I think if I had a job where I was primarily sitting or a job where a heel looked more professional than a flat (eg. with a business suit) then for sure I would LOVE to wear heels everyday, but whilst I'm in this industry actually practicing, flats it is.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
i definitely think there are way more color/pattern/material/price options out there than they're used to be. i was never a big fan of flats before because they always looked like old lady shoes. now i probably own almost 20+ pairs of flats and it's great because i can't wear heels to work so now i feel like i can easily be cute and fashionable. and they're so much more comfortable. i'm also one of those short girls that likes to feel short so it works out perfectly for me. i save the heels for very special occasions and it makes me feel all the more sexier for it.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
Yeahhhh, I don't dig flats unless you count tennis shoes or flip flops.
They make your feet look bigger and I am not interested in my feet looking bigger (I wear an 8.5).
I typically don't follow trends anyway, if I like something, I go for it but usually I veer away from fads.
Although, sometimes I decide I like a trend a couple years after it foes out of fashion. But again, I'm not with the trend, lol!!!

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
I love my heels! I have both heels and flats and I tend to wear my heels more. I could wear them everyday! I don't work though so I wouldn't have anywhere to wear them! LOL

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
I wonder if it's an exercise in women dressing for themselves as opposed to men. I mean, years ago, it seemed like women dressed more for men and men like heels, ergo women wore heels. Now I think it's all about the "me" and wearing what feels comfortable instead of wearing what society dictates that women should wear. Think about the men's suits that women rock now. Years ago, a man's suit? Unheard of!
But actually, I am not that fashion forward, so what do I know? ha!
Hugs,
Brandi
P.S. Heels are from the devil.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
All the girls here wear flats. Its utterly ridiculous.
I am not a fan of flats, I hate how they look. I do not own a single pair and I never want to. I think high heels are WAY super sexier, and there are ways to make them comfortable! If Im not wearing heels, then its flip flops or Nikeys. Still classy in my eyes!
I hope heels come back in a big way and this ugly flat trend goes away. There isn't a girl here without 5 pairs and I think they are so stupid looking, all round and duck like

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
Hmm, I'm not really sure how long flats have been in style.
Personally, I think both flats and heels are stylish...I mean, it depends on the person and what they prefer on a given occasion.
Flats are getting cuter and cuter. Most stores are making them now, and they are also made by high-end designers, so they are everywhere, just like heels are.
Heels are sexy, and I think many people continue to wear them, but people also enjoy how comfortable and cute flats can be too.

Re: Shift toward flat shoes? your thoughts
i love wearing heels... i am much comfortable with it than flats.. but ofcourse both trends have disadvantages and dangerous to our health if not worn properly... so i must say we have to switch from time to time....

Eh.
I don't think majority of folks wear flats because they're sexier. I know I don't wear them for that intention.
Flats are the same as sneakers and flip flops - just meets in the middle.
It ain't crocs or something. Whatever.
