Yeah South Park makes fun of Mormon's all the time! I watched one episode when one of them dies and he asks someone in heaven which religion was true and he says the Mormons, so I thought that was pretty funny! LOL

Hm...asians are always portrayed as smart...at least it's a good trait!

Not from a movie, but I get really irritated when someone says, "Hey, what's my name in Chinese?" and then I respond with "Uh...I'm only half Chinese, I don't speak the language, and I highly doubt that there's a word for 'Richard' in Chinese."

I had some people from the states ask me to say "about" and they thought it was odd that I didn't say "aboot" because that's how they thought Canadians pronounced "about"... which I thought was funny.

I'm also Asian and soooo many times I get asked:
Stranger: "Are you Chinese?"
Me: "No"
Stranger: "Are you Japanese?"
Me: "No"
Stranger: "Then what are you?"

I have never really been offended by a movie because i really don't take stuff like that personal. I do hate it when people hear me speak and they say "ooh your english is so good! how did you learn to speak it so perfect, i can't even hear an accent!"

If you have dark hair/complexions, people automatically assume you're Latina and speak fluent Spanish!lol
It does not offend me but it gets annoying when you get that at least 3 times a day and you have to explain the why where and when?...

Ps: I taught myself Spanish just so I'm able to reply..but then you get "how come you have an accent?"

I find that sooo annoying! I do not think I have ever heard someone say 'aboot' unless they were joking.

Or that whole 'no doot aboot it' (although it does make me chuckle)

OH! And that Canadians have to say 'eh' after everything, and that we all live in igloos, etc.

My cultural background usually get some comments as well. I am German, Ukrainian and Matee.. so I usually get snide remarks about being a Nazi and "native". Really lame!

And just a side story that I will never forget.. and I *think* it has some relevance to this thread.. I was about 12 yrs old and out shopping with my mom. I was blonde up until I was about 6 and I am very fair. My hair turned dark, but my eyebrows did not. At that point in time I was already colouring my hair and it happened to be very dark and thick. Anyways, this elderly lady approaches me and says 'are you winning the battle?' I just looked at her, then to my mom and my mom just grabs my arm and says 'no, she isn't, she only has another two months to live' and we walked away. I was then told that the lady thought I had cancer and that I was wearing a wig. I will NEVER forget that!

i hardly get offended, either i think it's just a joke or the person is stupid, and in both situations it's better to take it lightly.

although, i was at the restaurant two days ago, a traditional moroccan restaurant and the waiter told us someone asked him if they were serving snails. i mean, first, they only serve moroccan meals, so no way the person could find some in that restaurant, and if you think eating snails means eating a "real" french meal, you'll be disappointed. we hardly eat some, and the few who still do keep them for very special occasions so it's far from being a popular meal.

I get a few people who speak to me in French. Sometimes when they know I lived in Newbrunswick when i was young they presume I'm bilengual. Also apparently I have the French Canadian look, because I've had lots of people comment that I look like a Francaphone. It doesn't bug me, but I find it's funny that people presume I'm bilegual.

I really don't get the whole aboot think that people think we say.

Fyi..Moroccans do eat snails and it's considered as a popular "street food" , you can find it in Souks and old Medinas (& it's delish)

Yeah I can totally understand where you're coming from. Its quite frustrating because when I say im from London I usually get either the Cockney jokes "awight guvnah" (and asked if I work on a market stall & how poor I am!!- Thank-you Eastenders) or "would you like some crumpets and tea"- The latter is usually asked by Americans- no offense to anyone on here . I guess its nowhere near as bad as what other people go through but it is frustrating being stereotyped.
The area in East London that im from has a really bad reputation and is quite rough so I constantly get teased about that and asked if im a criminal and how many times ive been to prison.
I just try to see the funny side to it now!

First off, I am white, my husband is Native American, and he's pretty dark. I've had people say they didn't think I'd marry someone "like that", or "Oh, THAT'S your husband?"

Yeah, just because I'm lilly white, don't assume my whole family is. I think the only ethnicity I DON'T have in my family is Middle Eastern.

I also work at a tribal casino, and have had customers call me a "white *****", etc.

I can roll with it if someone is rude to me, but don't EVER let me hear someone disrespect my husband, cuz then it's on.

I have metis (native and french) in my background and I get annoyed when people say natives/aboriginals/metis are all alcoholics, drug users, lazy etc. I'm far from that.

It gets annoying sometimes when people think its winter, deep freeze in Canada all year round, we live in igloos, dogsleds are our transportation etc. The craziest question I have been asked.. Do you have a pet polar bear? lol. If I had a pet polar bear I would have been eaten by now.
