Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
Well, assuming we had time to, I'd get all my family pictures, my traincase (i actually keep everything in one mega huge one) and my son's baby book.

aww, jmg, I'm so sorry that's so sad. I guess it's a reminder for us all to back up all our photos. We have soo many bubby photos of my sister and I - and in the front of one is a newspaper clipping about my birth and a clipping of baby hair! so yeah, totally not replaceable.
I guess nowadays, I could just grab an SD card and run outside, but we don't even have most of the negatives I don't think. Totally irreplaceable. I wish we had them scanned or something... just in case!

Thank you! It's very hard to recover from something like this. I do agree that it's a great idea to store your photos/doc's on a memory card. Things like that are very irreplaceable.

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
Unfortunately, I've experienced this too. Luckily, we didn't lose everything and no one was hurt, but while you think you have something important, you later find out you missed grabbing something more valuable.
While I saved family pics, I lost the teddy bears I'd been collecting since I was a kid (one of which was my grandfather's before he passed away), and ALL of Cyera's baby stuff. My cats passed in the fire since we weren't home... So, of course that's a MAJOR loss too

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
That's so sad, I'm freaked out by fires, and I hate it when I see homes lost on tv, it's so sad.
I actuallly think about this question a lot for some reason even though I never experienced it. I would just throw my things out the window if the fire was still small. And I couldn't minimize it cause I only keep things I really really want.
I def need the car keys cause it would be a pain to get a copy, and laptop, and all the pictures I have are on my laptop and the ones that aren't were printed from there. I actually have almost ALL my clothes in big totes, since I'm getting ready to move.

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
All my digital pics are stored in several places so the computer can be replaced. I think if I was short on time to get out just my wallet, phone & keys would be the items I would grab on the way out.

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
Well knowing me I would probably just run out and not even think about pictures and things like that....just hoping my family is all out and safe.

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
My laptop...because my whole life is on this thing (including but not limited to: photos, music, home videos, ALL of my scholarship and creative writing, etc.)
My scrapbooks and paintings...because I've put a lot of time into them and they would be impossible to replace or replicate.
My makeup...surprise, surprise...but it is my livelihood and I've got several thousand dollars worth of makeup so it would take forever to replace.

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
This actually happened to me too. My townhouse was on fire while we were asleep. Scariest thing, EVER! The only thing I was able to get was my purse, car keys and the husbands wallet. Everything else was lost. I wish I could've gotten my lil jewlery box . I definately agree that it is hard to recover from these things. I freak out anytime I smell something burning.

Re: If Your House Was On Fire...
My file cabinet, with our important papers, birth cert's, etc.
The computer tower with our pictures on it.
A suitcase with some clothes for each of my 5 kids to wear. I could probably only fit one or two outfits for each kid in a suitcase.
