McCain went wrong is many many ways.

I don't think he was the Republicans strongest pick, though that has nothing to do with McCain.

McCain has some history that didn't help him. Occasional flip flopping and rumors of a temper.
Sara Palin, another mistake. Her speeches did not instill confidence.
Attacking Obama instead of saying what he would do.
Failure to layout a solid plan for americas economy.
The media in his campaign did not convey optimism.

Lastly, McCains final speech was amazing. Why didn't have material like that out there before losing the election? His admission of fault, respect for Obama, a call for americans to work together. That speech changed my mind about him.

I did feel sorry for Palin though, she appeared to take it personally.

It was nice that McCain congratulated him although I did not believe a word of it! McCain ran a really negative campaign!
