Natural Steps to Sexy Summer Hair

Instead of spending money on expensive hair treatments this summer, or damaging your hair with chemicals, how about you just step outside for a while? Here are a few ways to start getting the most out of the sun’s effect on your hair…and don’t forget your sunscreen.
Hair Build-Up Removal Rinse
A simple mix of 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water used after conditioning your hair normally will remove all buildup and leave your hair silky and shiny.

Lemon Juice Spray
Mix 1 part fresh lemon juice with 2 parts water. Spray this on your hair (top and undersides) every time you’re going to go out in the sun. It will help bring out the natural colors and highlights in your hair, including making red and blonde hair look brighter and healthier. Keep spray refrigerated or throw out and mix a new bottle every 4 days.

Olive Oil Color Protection Conditioner
If you’ve been dyeing your hair this summer,  once a week try using 1-3 tablespoons of olive oil (depending on hair thickness and length) mixed in with your conditioner. Leave on for 5-10 minutes  and your color will stay bright and true longer.

Blond Color Brightener
Steep 6 chamomile tea bags in 8 ounces of water for 3-4 hours. Cool thoroughly and pour into a spray bottle to use as a spritzer after every shower. Make sure to spray your hair thoroughly throughout the strands and not just on top and at the ends.

Brunette Color Brightener
Mix up some extra strong coffee by steeping 1/2 cup of dark roast grounds and 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder with 1 cup of water. Steep for 5-7 minutes, then cool and add two teaspoons of lemon juice (fresh squeezed is better.) Skip the conditioner this time and apply the mixture generously into your hair. To avoid staining your hair line you can apply a thick cream or Vaseline all the way around including your ears. Keep the mixture on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse and style as usual.

If you feel like this method stained your scalp, wait 1-2 minutes after rinsing the mixture then shampoo your hair as usual.

Red Hair Color Brightener
Wash, scrub, dice and steam 2-5 carrots (2 for short, 3 for shoulder and 5 for long and thick.) Mash them up until smooth with a fork or stick blender. Add 1/2 cup of cranberries (fresh or thawed) to the mixture and mash more. Add 2 tablespoons of honey and stir well. Wash your hair, skip the conditioner and towel dry instead. Then apply this mask generously on your hair, massaging in and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes, depending on how red you want to go.  Rinse the mask off style as normal.
I hope that you’ll take the time this summer to try out even just one of these all natural steps to healthier, sexier hair.
