Not a huge fan. Looks beautiful in the commercials, with the gorgeous actresss...but in reality, it is super-clumpy and hard-to-use! Black is not black enough...overall disappointing and kind of expensive!
In a word? Hate. I have never used a mascara before that performed so poorly. What a huge let down. I ended up taking this back. The base went on fine, but when I used the comb to add the mascara it turned into the ugliest, clumpiest lashes I had ever seen! I do not recommend this to anyone.
I love it. It makes my lashes look FAKE without the hassle of falsies and worries that they will fall off!
One thing about this mascara is that you have to take your time in applying it! Primer your lashes with the primer, then use the comb part to almost apply to each lash individually. Don't just comb it on as usual. I think it works best using the tip/top portion of the comb. As you apply it, make sure that you arrange your lashes with the comb the way that you want them to look.
You will either love or hate this one. Definitely not for those that don't have a lot of time in the morning or that simply don't want to take the time to apply it properly.
This product has two ends: a primer and the mascara. The primer end is white and has a regular wand. The mascara end does not have a regular brush. The brush looks more like a comb, but has the bristles of the rubber brushes that are becoming popular. I really didn't like the mascara end because it caused a lot of clumping. It also made my eyelashes lose its curl.
However, the primer end was good. Once you put in on your lashes, you could see the tips of your lashes that were too fine to see before, so it made them look longer.
After Maybelline's XXX, this is my favorite drugstore brand mascara, BUT...I had to discover how to use it my way before it actually looked good. When I first tried volume shocking out, it was just...wrong. The primer was great, but the brush for the actual mascara clumped my lashes pretty much damnright closed.
Yet...I prevailed. I had to. The price was too steep for me to just give up. I put the great primer on, and then instead of using that shit shocker brush, I used Maybelline's XXX mascara brush to put on volume shocking mascara. My lashes looked better than any photoshopped ad, with great length and VOLUME! Ja! Oh, I did not use the waterproof version, yet it still held up with no creases during the day, and I work as a contractor during the summer, so that says a lot right there.
Pros:Volume, very black color, length, long wear. NO clump-with the XXX brush, instead of the original one. Thick primer. Cons:Crappy mascara brush. Thats it. Just use another brush.
This quickly became the mascara I use every day. I got it in black and it is a nice, sooty color. It has a base coat that you apply and you need to make sure it dries before you put on the mascara itself so that you can avoid unsightly clumps. If you don't, I noticed that you definitely have a bit of the tarantula eye going on. When the base is dry, apply as many coats as your eyelashes can stand...Really gives a "false" lashes look to your eyes that is perfect for nighttime...The brush made it easy to apply to all my lashes, even the sparse little ones. Make sure to wiggle as you apply, that also cuts down on any clumps or globs you may experience. Pricey for a drugstore mascara, but definitely worth it in my opinion.
Pros:Gives lots of volume, not a lot of clumps that can't be separated. Cons:Have to make sure base is dry before applying mascara, will clump otherwise. Somewhat pricey.
After spending over $100 trying various mascaras in 2005, I have finally found a mascara that really works! My eyes and lashes are an important facial feature for me and this mascara gives real volume. My husband asked if my lashes were real?!?!? This was after months of thinning and falling out. I paid $10.87 at Wal-Mart and have spent as much as $26 on Estee Lauder with no results.
I asked a friend how she kept herl ashes so thick and full. She said she stopped using old mascara and replaces her mascara every month. She also removes her makeup every night. I bought my first Volume Shocking in January. February 1 I purchased a new one. My lashes, according to my husband, are the fullest and longest they have ever been! I have also added, in the last week, a product called DreamLash that adds vitamins and proteins to your lashes while you sleep. Coupled with the Volume Shocking, I really am SHOCKED at my lashes.
So, here's the scoop:
1. Buy Volume Shocking Mascara by L'Oreal
2. Buy DreamLash to "feed" your lashes
3. Wash your eye makeup off every night.
Results: Great big lashes!!!!!!!
Pros:Really works!!!!! Cons:Double what I paid for others.
This is one of the worst mascaras I spend my money on.
I wish I could have gone back and ask for a refund, but makeup is not
refundable. More mascara doesn't mean more volume, it just looked like
I have have spider legs on me, and I hated the clumps. It just looked
horrible, and L'oreal should just stop making mascara's in genral,
since they all are just so bad. Stay away from L'oreal mascaras. It
might be cheap, but it dries out faster, and you end up buying them
more often...
No way would I ever buy this stuff again, it is the WORST mascara disaster to hit the markets in years. The formula is very wet and smears something awful, the brush is way too thin to add any appreciable thickness or length for that matter and there is no point to the primer. The primer brush should actually be the mascara applicator brush. What the hey was L"Oreal thinking? AWFUL STUFF.
Pros:None. Cons:Smears horribly, is too wet, doesn't flatter and smudges miserably.
i would have to say that L'Oreal mascaras are definitely the worst ever. i have used the panoramic one and the lash extend one also. in the commerical also the model looked really fake and then i saw the picture of the model in a magazine for the volume shocking masacara. the lashes were so fake and the photo was so photoshopped. it was horrible! i have long and full lashes myself but when i used the mascara, it did not volumize them much. i did not like the package (the way it looked) either!
Did anyone notice that EVEN IN THEIR COMMERCIAL THE MODEL'S LASHES LOOKED AWFUL? I mean... they were sparce, stubby, and unnatural looking. They only looked "thick" where she had liquid eyeliner on. No one should EVER put a comb applicator in a mascara, it means instant clump. Brushes are for after using the mascara. You see why I didn't buy it? I should probably have tried it before reviewing but it is simply so obvious it is not a good choice.
What I found is that if I use this a specific way, then I really like the product. I put the base coat on top and bottom. It doesn't seem to matter to me whether I let it dry or not. Or maybe it dries very quickly, not sure. Then I take the comb and quickly go through the lashes on one eye only. I comb through and through until it is evenly distributed. If I let it dry and go back, it is a fat mess. But if I keep with it, it goes on thick and noticeable in a good way. When I am satisfied with top lashes on the first eye, then I turn the comb up and down (still on first dose of mascara) and go sideways on the lower lashes. I especially like how it makes my lower lashes look. I would consider using it JUST for the lower lashes! After that, I return the comb to container and do the same to the second eye. Just a little more work with a toothpick to further separate the lashes and I am done. I'm not recommending that part, it has just been part of my routine for years. I like how this mascara holds up all day and it washes off quite well. Overall, I am very pleased with it when I work quickly and do it right.
Pros:Extreme mascara Cons:Difficult to get the hang of
This mascara was good in that it ddn't dry your lashes out and make them brittle. It was also a thin fluid that didn't cake, clump, flake or smear. It did lengthen really nicely but I have very thin short lashes and need something that is a thick formula that REALLY thickens and adds volume and length. The comb separated the lashes well and reached the smaller lashes that were harder to reach like the corner and lower lashes. If you have thick lashes and just need definition and color with some separation than this is for you. Unfortunately though it says it is volumizing on the pkg. It isn't volumizing enough for my thin, fine and sparse lashes.
The case is ingenious and I liked having the primer atached to the mascara, no hunting for it! everythng is all together! and because of it's shape you can pick it out from the rest of your makeup easily. If you have thick, longer lashes that need a conditioning mascara and length with separation you might like this. It didn't work for me so I will have to return it and try something else.
Pros:doesn''t dry hard and brittle, flake, clump, cake or smear. has both formulas in one container. Small comb works well. Cons:Doesn't lengthen as much as stated on box, does not thicken or add volume on thin, fine, short, sparse lashes.
I am so so sorry everyone else hated this product! I feel bad you bought it and thought it would be good on my recommendation. I won't review again, again so sorry
This is the worst mascara that I have ever used...pathetic comb for applying the mascara, does not thicken, lengthen, does nothing - a big clumpy mess!
The only thing shocking about this mascara is they sell it for $10.00 -
Yuk! I really hated this mascara, so much so that I returned it to CVS after trying it out. The ultimate in tarantula eyes. Gloppy, clumpy and too thick. Even after I tried to separate my clumped up lashes with a clean mascara wand it still looked like Tammy Faye! Blech! The little comb for the actual mascara part is useless and applies far too much product with each pass. Perhaps if it had a regular mascara wand like the primer side does it would work better.
I'll stick with the Panoramic mascara instead. Works much better and doesn't look like stage makeup.
Pros:NONE except it's returnable! Cons:Completely gloppy, badly designed wand makes it hard to apply, too much product comes off the little comb at once.
I love love love this mascara! It has is a dual packaging mascara
with two ends to it. One side is the white primer you put on first with
a full brush. Then the other side is the mascara with a teeny comb.
Having tried similar mascaras in the past I didn't have very high hopes
for this one and was pleasantly surprized! It really did plump up
my lashes and make them look LUSH!
At first I thought $12 for
a drugstore mascara was a lot but it's well worth it and I've paid a
lot more for Lancome and had a smiliar look!
The
Black and Gold packaging is kinda of awkward at first, but at least it
stands out in the drawer of my wild array of mascaras I have on hand!!
Pros:makes skinny lashes BIG Cons:comes off with soap and water but you have to wash a few times to get it all off for the night
