I have been using this pencil since high school and that is a long time. I have very strange brows that are short and have like a bald spot on both eyebrows. This is not due to over plucking, these are a characteristic of my natural eyebrows. After I tweeze and shape them, I have always had to fill whole sections of them in. Now that I wear my hair a medium/dark blonde shade, I use the medium brown. I use short feathery strokes to fill in and then I use an eyebrow comb.If you go to harsh, they look very drawn on. I have had a few makeup artists from well known brands try to fill them in with powder to no avail. Just doesn't look right at the end. I am still searching for my perfect brow kit. However two pencils for $3.50 is a great deal and for the last 20+ years, this product has worked very well for me.
Pros:price, lasts a long time, portability, long wearing, waterproof, Cons:can look harsh if applied improperly,
this is my first brow gel ever, so i have nothing to compare it to. i don't think i need to have anything to compare it to, anyway, because i think it works very well. it never flakes and keeps my brows in place all day. i love how thin it is, so it's easy to carry around in my makeup bag. i also love how it makes my brows look glossy. i think you should buy one every 3 months if you use it daily because just like mascara, bacteria builds up in there, as well, and you can even see it because the gel i have is clear, as oppose to taupe and brunette, the colors they have this gel in. i might give brunette a try next.

Pros:keeps brows in place, doesn't flake, price, packaging Cons:none
Maybelline Brow Gel is a great product for the price! The reason I tried it was because other clear mascaras meant for brows always made my brows look stiff and would usually flake, which is definitely not an attractive sight. I always purchase the shade Taupe, which is a good match for my medium ash brown brows. One tube usually lasts me 3-4 months w/daily use, so it's a good deal for me since one tube is around $5. It holds my brows in place, and provides just enough color so that it hides the outer edges of my brows that have been bleached by benzoyl peroxide. I can't say that it's a HG, but it might as well be, because I doubt I'll ever use anything else.
