Like many of the other posters here I had itching after using Bare Escentuals. I didn't have issues with it not looking right-- it covered just fine, blended well, and I was pleased because I HATE heavy foundation-- but not long after applying it it felt like I had poison ivy.
Fortunately it didn't look that way, but there's no reason to suffer to look good! Was disappointed because I am trying to green up my makeup collection. I won't use it again.
Pros:Looked fine, blended well Cons:Made me as itchy as a flea with a rash in a wool sweater
This foundation leaves a very obvious shine to the face, enhances big or small fine lines and wrinkles on the face instead of hiding them, and it itches on the face after long wear.
I don't know whose face could actually benefit from this stuff as it has simply isn't a great base makeup product at all. And, even though it claims to be made from all natural minerals from the earth and considered good for sensitive skin. There are unfortunately alot of womens skins that cannot handle bismuth oxychloride touching coming in contact with their skin.
Pros:It claims to be all natural Cons:It has bismuth oxychloride in it which is a known skin sensitizer; it has no oil-control properties to it at all; it is very shiny; and it creases on the face.
I have tried many mineral makeups so I had to try BE with all you hear about it. I was very disappointed. It has a sparkley look which accentuates oily patches as well as fine lines and wrinkles. I am very pale and the only color that did not leave a line of demarcation was the bisque (actually considered a concealor in the line). The bismouth that is in it caused itching and burning. For the price the packaging could be more attractive and functional. Totally not impressed.
Pros:you get a decent brush for applying mineral m/u Cons:All of the above.
I had heard raves about Bare Minerals and spent hours glued to the t.v watching the infomercial. Could it be so??? Such a miracle??
Well sadly I bough it and found it messy, drying and blotchy! It seemed to emphasize every pore in my face. It also spread out into my forehead creases and made me look old.....I'm 26!!! Everytime I tried it at home I ended up spilling more than I could ever use.
Not only did I not look sparkly, veneered and perfect. My face itched like crazy!! Turns out I am allergic to Bismuth, a key ingredient.
Pros:Covers well Cons:Itchy, shiny, spills easily.
Bare Escentuals introduced me into the MMU world, so it is not surprising that I liked it at first. However, it did not give me the coverage I liked. My skin is relatively OK, the thing I need most is coverage for my dark undereye circles and my red cheeks. Bare Escentuals didn't do a good job covering this. I also found that whatever gave BE that glow made me kind of gray because it is metallic.  Now, I prefer to use Ocean Mist because it is matte and has better coverage.
I have been using this for a while and love the feeling on my skin, the makeup covers up quite well. I normally tend to have very fair nice looking skin, unfortunately not too long ago I got chicken pox (at 22 years old!) having taken a couple of weeks off work to heal my severe chicken pox I eventually had to return, this makeup did a great job at covering the redness. I would recomend that one use moisturizer before application, let it soak in and then apply the minerals, little by little, otherwise you might put on too much, which will make your pores look huge.
I like this but I don't love it. It settles in my fine lines around my eyes and the colours are very unforgiving. I also find the amount of "buffing" required irritates my skin?! Its ok, the finish is quite nice as it isn't "flat" and has a slight sheen. I do really like their other products though, I have a great lipstick and gloss, somelovely eyeshadows and have ordered a blush. Their brushes are excellent too!
Pros:Good coverage, nice sheen, the line carries other prducts that are exceptional Cons:Messy, unforgiving
In all fairness this product was "the foundation" that got me through a difficult time. About over a year and a half ago I suffered a betrayal of the skin, and everything, especially foundationscaused my skin to break out.For the first time in about 25 years of wearing every and any makeup under the sun of every and any quality I was scrambling to find a new line and tried this. No breakouts at all! Good. But not so fast. This didn't come with a price. The price was not so much the cost but the price of itching like I had Chicken Pox whenever I'd get slightly heated or flustered and sometimes just when...? But, no breakouts. So I was happy with the product because even though at timesit didn't feel good, hey, I was looking good, ya know? Purchased several eyeliner powders and shadows and whatever else even thought about becoming a Bare Minerals type of groupy then one day I just suddenly vacated the foundation and complete line altogether for a smaller line that is far better priced and comes without the itching. Love the mineral makeup thing and love it even more now that I've switched lines and am not itching any longer.
Pros:Looks natural with a proper skin color match and if applied lightly layer by layer Cons:Causes itchyitis in some users.
If you have even slightly dry or sensitive skin, skip this. Not for those of us with fine lines either. Regardless of what type of moisturizers or primers I used prior to applying this product, it continually accentuated my dry areas & settled into the fine lines around my eyes. Another strike: irritated my skin, causingvery small breakouts.
Â
Additionally, I'd have to agree with the opinion of a few other reviewers as far as final results go. I'd describe the coverage as somewhat "mask-like." Application can be messy too. I'dpass on this altogether; thereare too many great products available to bother with this one.
Â
Pros:None that I experienced Cons:Too many to list; see review
I also wanted to like this and waited years to finally try it but it made me break out and I am no youngster by any means! I'm used to the feel of liquid so it felt like nothing which is supposed to be a good thing, but I like the foundation feel.
I wanted to like Bare Minerals, I really, really did. But I must admit...I hated it. The finish is very much like a mask and tends to seperate on oily skin through the day. Any dry areas, particularly around the eyes, where skin is thinner and more wrinkled are made more pronounced. My biggest complaint is that it makes me itch...like rake my skin off my face kind of itch. After reading some other websites, it's likely the bismuth. I've tried Everyday Minerals and have not had this problem.
I'm pretty surprised at how many bad reviews this product recieved!
I actually find myself going back to bare minerals time and time again. I get bored with my makeup and always try new things but I find this product easy to use, very quick application, great coverage, and good for my skin! I was also surprised that so many people found that this product didn't give enough coverage. I have very problematic skin; I've been on accutane twice, been on proactiv for years now, still am struggling with constant breakouts, have lots of scarring and uneven skintone, lots of redness and blotchiness...well you get the picture! I just use this product without concealer and it covers all my flaws pretty well (and that's A LOT of flaws I have). The trick is to use a good moisturizer on top of exfoliated skin. Because it is a powder, dry skin with lots of flakes will definately be accentuated. Wait for the moisturizer to dry completely and then put on the powder. The only complaint I have is that the colour choices are not the best, they are quite limited, and it provides a very luminescent glow. I like skin with a nice glow to it, but bare minerals is sometimes a bit too much. And the packaging could be a bit better considering it isn't that cheap.
Overall this is a very good product it really does cover imperfections like it advertises, and it is very good for the skin. It just takes a bit of practice if you aren't used to mineral foundation.
Definately would repurchase over and over again!
Pros:-good for the skin
-good coverage
-quick and easy application
Cons:-can be messy if you aren't used to it
-isn't in the best packaging
I tried a sample first to see how i liked it. I have always used liquid makeup but recently it looked blotchy etc. So itried BE. Love it. my skin cleared up.No more breakouts, my skin does not have a layer of gray on it. It actually looks so good i can leave my house without makeup and not be embarassed. I was very curious about the powder like application and the coverage...Easy to apply, great coverage and it does not fade away.Â
I am sorry for some of the people that it did not work out. Not everything works out for everyone, but i am glad i did.Â
I had the same problem with Bare Escentuals. I really wanted this mineral makeup to work for me but it did not. I have tried three others since then and before I bought Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals). I have used Sheer Cover, Aromaleigh, and Everyday Minerals. All three are great products. Sheer Cover gives the best coverage but it is pricey. Good luck in finding a mineral makeup that will work for you.
I really wanted to love this I have seen it work well on some friends but I just cannot get it to look right on me. I wear it now that it is summer because it is so hot where I work that make up just melts off anyway but for going out I definately want something to give me more coverage.
Pros:nice brush came with mine Cons:price and not enough coverage for me
For me, this makeup never worked. I tried to love it because I liked the idea of it...powder light makeup with great coverage, but it just wasn't for me. It never quite blended into my skin and it made me look like I was wearing a weird mask or something. I tried 4 different colors, all manner of blending and mixing, and still the mask effect. It also made my skin feel dry in spots and oily in other, weird.
Pros:they have nice brushes for the foundation Cons:everything else
I was hoping this would be my HG of makeup...well it's not. First, you do need to apply it several times to get good coverage for redness or acne. Then you end up looking almost chaulky, but with a hint of shimmer. It doesn't last all day, and came off on my colars. I'm normally dry, but it made me oily in spots, itched a lot...even on my eyelids! Second, it's not portable. It comes in round screwtop pots that are rather large to be carrying around. If you aren't careful, it also can be very messy. A little goes along way, so for the price, it's a deal, but for the hassle, I think not!
Pros:Price...a little goes a long way...it lasts forever. Cons:Irritating...Messy...Not Portable...Coverage Doesn't Last...Comes Off on Clothes.
I decided to buy this because I was sick of liquid foundation. I had bought a sample just to see how wella powder can look on my skin and it looked great! I have VERY sensitive skin and my face gets irritated easily, so i needed something that wouldnt irritate my skin and this worked great. The only problem is that im kind of clumsy and i have dropped the jars a couple of times. Besides the packaging, i really love this product.
Pros:very light on the skin and covers well Cons:it can be alittle messy
