What to get my mom for christmas?

Hi everyone.

Looking at stuff to buy my mom for Christmas. Don't really know anything about makeup, but I know my mom likes eyeshadow. I asked her, and she pointed out a few things to me.

http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Decay-Eyeshadow-Primer-Potion/dp/B0028RC5N8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319697495&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/SEPHORA-COLLECTION-Moonshadow-Baked-Palette/dp/B005UXGMO0/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1319696727&sr=8-17

http://www.amazon.com/Sephora-Colorful-Artist-Palette-Value/dp/B00473O9AI/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=gift-cards&ie=UTF8&qid=1319697616&sr=1-1-catcorr

I'm probably going to get her these, but I'm looking for more opinions. If you could point me towards something else I could get her to go with these, please do. Amazon.com would be preferred, since I don't have a credit card or paypal (too young), but I could probably pull a few strings to get them from a different website if need be.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was also looking at getting her this, but looking through the website, I need a credit card to purchase, even if I have a gift card to use. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P294706&categoryId=C19970&shouldPaginate=true

Is there any way I could get my hands on this without having a credit card? All the listings on ebay for this are horribly overpriced.

How much are you thinking of spending in total and what brand are your mother's make up brushes? Does your mother have vanity counter top space to store and use that massive Sephora palette, and does she always touch up her make up at home (the palette is not exactly portable)? Will she use the full rainbow of colours (I notice the palettes she selected are primarily neutrals)?

Some of the best quality/ highest pigmented eyeshadows are by INGLOT and can be ordered online from the company itself, via eBay or purchased in an Inglot store. You purchase a magnetic palette then select your own colours, so you could keep adding to your mothers' collection for future gifts - they are not crazy expensive either as each shadow is $5, a 10 space palette is $14 for example. Be careful with eBay if you look at desirable brands like MAC as there are a ton of poor quality fakes out there.

I'm not on a budget at all, so money isn't a problem.

Yes, she touches up at home most of the time, but most of her brushes are in a bag she brings with her when she goes out. Looking through what she had real quick on the counter, I saw a few Urban Decay brushes. Not sure what "vanity" counter space is, but our counter is huge, so I doubt that's a problem :P

I'm not really sure what colors she uses, I'm colorblind actually, but the list I gave you is what she picked out herself, except for that box thing on eBay. I picked the box out, because it had all those colors, and I don't have to worry about it myself.

I'm probably just going to get her these (I put on a wishlist): http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/N0LRCSHIAAZS

Only concern is, in that 40 dollar pack, it says some of these are around .3 fl oz? Is that a standard amount for makeup? Because looking at my water bottle here, I can't imagine .3 fl oz being very much.

I own one of the Sephora blockbusters from last year and it's nice but to be perfectly honest I wouldn't recommend it at all. Sephora is carried in JCPenney so if you have a local JCPenney with a Sephora inside you can get a gift card from there and order online with it. Since you can order on Amazon.com you can also buy a Sephora gift card through them:

If you want to order strictly off Amazon.com then I would recommend these items over the Sephora brand shadows.

In my experience, sephora-brand shadows are not that amazing--they're ok, but not really worth the price.

I always thought this perfume sampler was a cute gift:

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P299443&categoryId=B70

if your mom likes perfume, there are 12 sample vials and a coupon for a 1-oz perfume from the selection. I don't know how age-appropriate the perfumes are though.

is a nice sampler, but it has tiny samples

The rollergirl palette from UD is only $18, but the crazy bright-pink might not be something your mom would wear:

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P295482&categoryId=C17063&shouldPaginate=true

seems like a nice palette

I ordered this one--for myself loll

although I'm not a fan of sephora-brand makeup, this definitely has a wow-factor with all the products

good luck!

If she is taking brushes out of the house she is touching up on the go, so would need palettes that can travel. IMO the massive Sephora palette would suit a teen who is new to make up and wants to experiment with colour. I would suggest just going with the Urban Decay Primer Potion but not the Makeup Forever HD primer, as she doesn't need two primers and the UD which she requested gets rave reviews (MUFE is a good brand tho).

The reason I asked about brushes is that you might consider the Sigma synthetic kabuki brushes; the link is to the full set but you can purchase them individually on Amazon. These are absolutely incredible quality and give an amazing finish, achieving rave reviews all over the net and topping other high end brushes.

HTH!
