About Me/Wish List

I am very fair with freckles, strawberry blonde with green eyes.  I color my hair to restore it to its natural color...haha!!  Don't wear much foundation and my makeup look is pretty minimal, but I do like to wear makeup when I go out.  I also love to experiment with new colors & applications.

I remarried 4 years ago and live in San Diego with my hubby, 3 sons, 2 stepsons, a cat, and a dog.  Luckily my dog is a female so I am not totally outnumbered by the men.  My hobbies are gardening, reading, traveling, crafts, and cooking.  I have been ill for the last two years so I no longer work, which means I have lots of time on my hands.  One day when I was bored to death I looked online and found NAIL ART!  I was hooked.  I quickly went from having 10 nail polishes (all light pink & nude) to almost 400 in every color, finish, and brand.  I belong to several internet groups and have met some really wonderful ladies through this hobby.  I really love the looks that can be achieved with nail stamping, but so far I have not perfected my technique so I'm still practicing.

My wish list would include, of course, Nail Polish and any other nail or nail art related items (cuticle cream, rhinestones, nail decals, etc). Because I have so many polishes I have started to collect Indie Brands like Rainbow Honey, 365 Days of Color, Perceptions Nail Lacquer.  I really love holos and glitter!  Some of the polishes I'm looking for are L'Oreal Brit Invasion, A England Dragon, Sonnetarium After the Rain, Rainbow Honey Worst Possible Thing.  I also have started collecting Foreign Polishes.

I have recently started wearing more eyeliner so I'm looking for a good one that someone with unsteady hands can use.  I'd really love to try a felt pen eyeliner in a soft brown but haven't found one.  I should also say that another hobby is taking baths...can that be a hobby??  Love any sort of bubble bath, bath oil, bath fizzies, body scrubs in food scents like vanilla, brown sugar, sugar cookie, those sorts of scents.  Always looking for lipstick/lipstain/lipgloss in clear bright berry colors.  I found Melvita Rose Water on Birchbox and I'm hooked - I use it everyday!  I use Ole Hendriksen products for my face and I love them, best stuff I've every used.  I'm also a tea and candle lover,  and chocolate will be my downfall!  Oh and I really like handmade, crafty stuff.

I do not like crackle nail polish, most perfumes, dark makeup colors, spicy food, and my ex-husband.  : )

My favorite colors are purple and green, I don't wear a lot of makeup overall, and when I do I just wear eye makeup and sheer lip gloss, and the occasional light lipstick. (I'm extremely lucky that I don't need to wear any more makeup than that.) But that's mostly for special occasions.

My makeup weakness is nails. I can grow em, so I might as well take glorious advantage of that fact. I wear all colors except for pinks/nudes on my nails, and I'm not afraid to do funky things involving glitter, holos, line art and designs. I haven't really tried nail stamping, but definitely want to. I also like to try nail polish brands from other countries.

I'm also starting to get into the eye cream/moisturiser groove. I've been trying different products out in that area.

I stay away from perfume at all costs, so please, no perfume.

Other than that, I love coffee and very good chocolate. I love LUSH items, but don't get them as often as I'd like. And as a random sidenote, I love dragons.

• I'm very pale and warm-toned, NC10~15ish depending on the season. I generally use Korean BB creams; the American ones are typically all too dark for me.

• I'm half-Asian and generally subscribe to the Asian belief that paleness is a sign of beauty. So, no self-tanners or heavily bronzing products for me.
• I have a lot of redness on my cheeks and nose (hence blushes and cheek tints, especially pink ones, don't work well for me).
• My skin type is combination-to-oily. My T-zone gets shiny quickly and I wear a lot of mattifying products, but I also have patches of drier skin.
• Large pores are generally my #1 skin complaint.
• I'm 24 and don't really believe in using specifically anti-aging products; my dermatologist told me that the most important thing at my age is just to use SPF and to keep my skin hydrated, especially using products rich in vitamin E, so that's what I do. No fancy nano-peptides for me. I am, however, interested in anything with argan oil (because it's so rich in vitamin E).
• I don't really break out easily (when I do it mostly seems to be due to period hormones), and I'm not aware of anything my skin is sensitive to.
• I'm generally interested in natural/organic products, especially for skincare (with make-up I'm a little less picky). I'm very conscious of the ingredients in the products I use, avoiding SLS and parabens and that sort of thing, and substituting for natural ingredients wherever possible.
• I prefer not to use drugstore cosmetics or skincare products, mostly because of the concerns re: ingredients.
• Nail polish is my #1 love. I never leave the house without my nails painted, and I own well over 100 bottles of nail polish, the majority being Zoya, Julep, Orly, and Butter London.
• I'm not hugely artistic when it comes to nails -- I do a lot of gradients and sponging, but I don't really draw out nail art or things like that. I've never tried stamping plates and I'm sort of curious about that, so that might be another idea.
• Eye make-up is my #2 love. Because I'm warm-toned and have hazel eyes and auburn hair, I look best in greens/olives, golds, bronzes, and browns. I'm still looking for a great medium yellow-toned green eyeshadow (think darker than Urban Decay Urb and lighter than L'Oreal Infallible Golden Emerald, but not olive; maybe something along the lines of Urban Decay Vert).
• Lately I've been interested in pastels and light colors. Because of my pale coloring and the fact that I have deep-set eyes, I have a hard time pulling off anything darker than a medium shade; anything darker looks heavy and unflattering on me. In many palettes, I have to use the lid color as my crease color, and I use the crease color either as a liner or just don't use it at all.
• I'm also interested in trying more matte neutrals (the majority of my eye make-up right now has a shimmer or frost finish).
• I love bold lips, but I'm also fairly set in that department because I've been visiting the OCC flagship store quite often since they opened last year and own a lot of their lip tars. (I haven't brought myself to buy Black Dahlia yet though, and I'm interested in their holiday line they just announced.)
• My other HG lip product are the Revlon Just Kissable balm stains, but I think I already own all of their colors I can pull off.
• One thing to note about my lips: they have a very strong purple/cool undertone, so I generally have to use lip products with a strong orange/warm undertone. Anything too blue-toned/pink-leaning tends to look fuchsia and very unnatural on me.
• My lips don't chap easily and I'm just not a lip balm person; I never really remember to apply it, probably because I don't usually need to.
• I work in a place where I can get away with wearing pretty much whatever I want, so I don't have to worry about workplace-appropriate neutrals or anything like that. However, I'm also the only female engineer, so I don't usually go all-out with my make-up on work days.
• I generally don't have the patience for any kind of loose powder cosmetics.
• I probably have more make-up brushes than I reasonably need at this point. The one thing I could maybe use is a good contouring brush (for sculpting cheekbones).
• I'm not a huge fan of body butters or lotions; the skin on my body is pretty normal (not dry), so similarly to the lip balms, I just never really remember to apply body products regularly. I pretty much only do so after I shave...
• I don't take baths. My bathtub is too small; my bathroom in general is pretty tiny.
• I drink a lot of tea, and I'm a fan of very traditional teas -- nothing too fruity or sweet. I like the dominant flavor to come from the tea leaves themselves.
• I'm obsessed with ginger and love anything ginger-flavored or scented.

A little bit about myself:

• I'm Asian, so I have medium skin with yellow undertones.  Asymmetrically cut straight black hair, so no hair accessories please, unfortunately I can't use them.  Not really a lip product person and don't wear much eye makeup other than eyeliner and mascara.  I've never had the chance to find out what shade I am in MAC foundations (shame on me) but I'm currently using Urban Decay's Naked Skin in #6.
• My style is a mix of boho glam and rocker chic.  Most of the clothes in my closet are from Express.  I love scarves, long necklaces, animal and tribal prints.  My ears are pierced 7 times (4 on the left, 3 on the right).  I generally wear jewelry in hematite.  I wear size 7 shoes.  I love heels but don't get the chance to wear them much.  I'm desperately in need of a pair of black flats but haven't had time to look for any.
• I have a Keurig K-Cup coffee machine and would love some new coffees to try.  I love tea, especially Teavana.

• I don't know what the next essence limited edition line is going to be after _Twilight_, but I already want it!
• Nail art goodies!
• Love flavored (especially citrus or soda flavored) lip balms, especially ones without petroleum or beeswax!  Crazy Rumors is probably my favorite line.  
• Preferred color scheme for winter holidays:  Blue and silver, perhaps with a little purple thrown in.  I'm just not a fan of red/green/gold.
• Shower tablets!  I don't take baths.  I'm a shower-only person!
• Lush goodies:  Ibiza Party shampoo; any of the shower jellies; any of the shower gels except Grass (wow, I had forgotten that I like *every single one* I've tried!  Too bad the scent of grass is Bad News for me); any FUN (haven't tried them, but they sound like, well, FUN!).
• Travel sizes are *awesome*!

Ultimate wish list item:  OPI Black Spotted.

Favorite brands:  I'm just getting back into the makeup thing after a four-year hiatus (it's a long story), and there are a *lot* of new brands since the last time I bought makeup, but my favorite brands back then were Urban Decay and MAC.  One of my goals for the next year or so is to explore indie/boutique brands more.  I like the *idea* of drugstore brands as well, but aside from essence and occasionally Sally Hansen, those brands tend to not have much in the way of my kind of color.  

No-go items: 

Perfume (unless it's oil-based!  I love fragrance.  I just can't use alcohol-based stuff, which is the vast majority of what's out there), mascara, liquid eyeliner, nude/neutral/subdued or warm colors, nail polish (I actually love it but I have a *lot* of it and a tendency to buy whatever I want *right then and there* as soon as I see it), anything floral-scented (unless it's a fruit blossom or violet), bar soap, hair products, jewelry, skincare (I get plenty from my various subscription boxes!), bath (that is, for use in a bathtub rather than a shower) stuff, glittery eye products like Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy or stila smudgestick (I love the sparkle, but I don't dig the fallout all over the inside of my glasses, and the glitter can scratch my skin).

• Hair:  Probably best described as medium brown, fine, silky, thick, and in the process of being grown out from a pixie cut.  And insanely healthy.  I can wash it, pin it back with bobby pins, and…  That's pretty much it.  It falls out of every other type of hair accessory right now, and I cannot handle styling product or heat appliances *at all*.  
• My eyes are also probably best described as medium brown.  They're in my head.  They are also *extremely* nearsighted, and they despise contacts, so they are always behind thick glasses (my usual frame colors:  purple and green.  Style:  Face a Face Elvis 3.  Chunky, colorful, and cateye.  More than slightly rockabilly librarian.  I *love* these frames!), which means eyeshadow/liner gets applied with a heavy hand.
• Skin:  Very dry in the winter and very Irish as far as color goes (cool, pale, pink cheeks).  I'm 40, but I only started wearing foundation-type stuff after Glossybox sent out Missha BB Cream (#21!  They actually sent a color that worked for me), so I have *no clue* what my MAC color would be or what my color would be in any other brand. 
• Favorite color scheme for makeup:  Heavy/thick dark purple/green/blue around the eyes (think 15-year-old emo/punk kid, except blackened *color* instead of just black), bright hot pink/fuchsia lips.  No mascara, no blush, no neutral/subdued or warm colors!
• My style has been described in the past as "goth punk gypsy," although it's more punk-hippie-who-reluctantly-works-for-a-bank nowadays.
• I recently (read: last month) ended a makeup hiatus that started four years ago, so I have *no clue* about any of the indie cosmetic lines, but I would love to try them.  
• In other-creatures-who-also-live-in-my-apartment news, I have two one-year-old kitties.  They are not related, but they fight like siblings.  I had nicknamed them the Bruise Brothers due to their colors (one is black, and the other is blue) before I even got them home from the Humane Society.  Self-fulfilling prophecy much?
