I personally do not like to pay for shipping on anything. When I pay for shipping, I feel like I'm wasting my money. I might be in the minority but I would rather wait than pay extra for faster shipping.
Maybe they should just wait until mid-month to send us the tracking numbers. I got my bag on 8/16 however, it felt like it took forever to get to me because I got tracking on 8/8. If I would have gotten tracking info on 8/15, I would have thought wow that was fast! It would also help if they sent the bags on the west coast first, that way everyone would get their bag around the same time.

I'm kind of excited! I really want to go to Sea World, but not alone!

I went to school there. Many folks have had good ideas. If you want to go shopping: Fashion Valley (higher end stores), Mission Valley (more affordable), downtown/Gaslamp is great for food or Horton Plaza is the downtown mall, Old Town as mentioned is Mexican food and HUGE margaritas or freshly made tortillas in fruit flavors even. Though there was a news story that ordering a large had the same number of oz. as a regular. :) Little Italy near downtown is nice place to start the day for coffee and pastries. La Jolla is luxe and lovely for shopping, the Aquarium, food, all that many crave.

I'd take you around if I was still there. My mom loved taking the Old Town Trolley Tours. It's a "shuttle" where it's hop on and off that takes you to the major sites. Grab a schedule so you can make time for every stop.

And here I was thinking I was having problems dealing with Canada Post, but after reading the August thread and this one, it seems like DHL is way worse :( Hopefully something good will come out of that shipping concerns chat on Thursday.

I've had a pretty terrible few days (first day trying to work since I had brain surgery back in April - it didn't go so well!) so I will try to distract myself with a dream bag:

  • Jewel-toned nail polish in a liquid sand/pixie dust/etc shimmery finish (OPI Alcatraz Rocks, Zoya Chita, something similar)
  • Brightly coloured eyeliner
  • Perfume in some crisp clean scent (linen, cotton, citrus, etc)
  • A deluxe sample of something from Marc Jacobs' new cosmetics line (haha yeah right but we can dream, right?)
  • Scent-free moisturiser from a brand I've never tried before

"Please No" list:

  • Hair products of any sort - I still have basically no hair, haha)
  • Mascara - This has been the Magical Summer of Mascaras, I swear. I've somehow acquired without paying four full-size and three sample-size mascaras in the past six weeks.

Keep in mind that certain products have to be shipped ground due to US shipping laws.

Except they definitely don't obey that wink.gif

Man, the mascara just *flooded* in for me this past month.  I ended up with something like four samples and one full-sized that arrived during the month of August alone.  The Pixi, a Lancome (part of a compensation package for a nail study), two Laura Mercier, and a Benefit (the last two were from Sephora GWP bags).

And if we're going to daydream about Marc Jacobs stuff, I'll throw in specifically for Th(Ink), Intro(Vert), or Jazz(Berry).  I got a mini Blacquer from Sephora (yay, points!), and I tried it today, ringing my entire eyes like it was 1991 again just to see where it didn't fare well.  It only melted at the outside corners where *every* eye product melts on me.  That part of my eye is apparently phenomenally oily.  I have yet to find *any* eyeliner that doesn't wear off there.  It wore like iron on the rest of my eye.  I have a feeling I'll be buying all of them one by one over the next year.

I have this same problem with things melting at the corners of my eyes! It's the weirdest thing... Nothing I've tried has done anything. If you figure anything out that works, please share! Lol.

I pretty much agree. I HATE paying for shipping and generally try my best to avoid it. That being said, what has bothered me with Ipsy regarding shipping isn't so much the speed as the lack of consistency and poor customer service. Waiting until the end of the month is one thing, provided the bag arrives safely and is handled appropriately by the shipper. But all the bags that arrived with items missing or entirely empty was just unacceptable. I was lucky not to be one that had this problem, but I know there were way too many people that did. Then, you have Ipsy not wanting to take any responsibility for it. I'm sorry, but they chose to continue with DHL despite having problems with them in the past. DHL is responsible, but so is Ipsy. The consumer certainly is not. Also, tracking should work and bags should be handled in a consistent manner. This is never going to happen with DHL. So Ispy should look into a different shipper, yes. Not sure if they can find one and still keep the price at $10, but DHL is just no longer reliable and they should be dropped like a hot potato. Now, if they had to charge $11 or $12 to ship with a better company, I'd probably be ok with that. Bumping up $5 to $15 would be too much though. I guess with subs you have to look at things differently. You can say we pay for the samples (sometimes full size if we are lucky) and do not pay for shipping, or, you could say we pay shipping and get the samples for free. It doesn't really matter to me how you look at it, as long as the overall cost stays as close to $10 as possible and the value/quality of the bags remains high. This includes my expectation that they IMPROVE CS and SHIP APPROPRIATELY. Just IMHO. ;)

ETA: Oh, and they need to work on being fair to all customers--bag value, desirability of all samples, etc. Since they started amping up the variations, quality and consistency from bag version 1 to version 2 to version 3 etc. has been going down hill.

This. I live in the Southwest and in a tiny town so my packages always take a while to get here. It stinks when you want to trade but the more popular things (I want) are gone by the time my bag gets here. It's not a huge deal but would be nice.

I do think they try to ship out earlier for some places, I'm from Canada and I tend to get my bag Sometimes before my tracking but most times just a few days after, they don't ship to us using DHL though so that might also make a difference. I do feel terrible for those who suffer through DHL :(

I think they've started shipping out in variation waves (read:  not destination-based) like Birchbox.  Variation 1 goes out first, variation 2 goes out second, etc., and the core bag variation is one of the later variations to go out.

I've never had issues with Canada Post surprisingly! Infact, I consistantly get my bag 2 days before the estimated arrival date (for probably 8 months now?). Hope it goes better for you this month smile.gif

I looked into the Old Town Trolley Tours, but wasn't sure if it would be fun for me to do by myself, did she do them alone?

Usually the core bag is the best, or so it has been the past few months in my eyes, so I guess the lesson is "good things come to those who wait." Well, assuming your bag doesn't get lost by DHL that is, lol!

Great observation Meaganola!

I hope we get spoilers this week... I'm about 99% sure I'm cancelling, but I'm waiting until the last minute JUST in case there's something epic in this month's bag.

She actually did one time. There's plenty of happy people of varying ages. Unless you have specific destinations, it's a convenient way to hit all the main spots without having to drive a car, bus or trolley (actual red car light rail train). Oh Balboa Park is like LA's Griffith Park with nooks and crannies of things: zoo, museums, etc.

Ditto. Though I'm thinking they may hold off as they seem to still be running contests, their shipping chat on Thursday... it'd be nice to get spoilers between on of that business.

Oh and thank you allistra44  for posting the upcoming Julep colors. I'm cancelling after this month and had a hard time choosing colors. Think I found my preferred set. Whew!

Agreed. Ipsy's just been annoying me lately, but I want to hold off on cancelling in case September is really great.

I agree! I don't follow my tracking. I don't care if the bag sits for five days in a hub or in Hebron LOL (where the bags all get drunk and then they get hooked to little snails who carry them to us) rofl2.gif

If we did not know the bag was going from state to state and doing this and that there would be no anxiety. I cannot afford any more anxiety in my life with Coronary Artery Disease. And trust me not getting a bag is nothing like being in a hospital with people shouting, "I'm healthy!" I was in the hospital three days this past week in the telemetry unit. Not a bit like not getting makeup. sadno.gif Which is a luxury item. No one is going to die if they do not get a UD lipstick or a blush. Please let's all try to put this into perspective. If it isn't fun then we are doing it wrong!

I figure if the bag shows up every month since January and then the second bag has shown up every month since May. I am sad for the ladies who had lost bags and especially the ones who got last month's replacement items, but if that happened I probably still would not unsub. It's only ten bucks and I would give the extras as gifts. Let's keep it fun and simple. Life is much more fragile than we allow ourselves to dwell on. LIVE LAUGH LOVE is really a great saying. Thank you so much! I think we all have the right to complain when things go awry or if situations get "stuck" and do not change for the better. But we also have to be mindful of overvaluing what is not as important and undervaluing what really matters.

Unfortunately I have chronic issues, but I am feeling better than I did a few days ago! Thank you for asking.

Moonblossom you are VERY BRAVE to attempt to go back to work. It will get better! Enjoy the weekend. sunshine.gif

Yes, we do deserve a spoiler! I sincerely hope they make September's spoilers a bit more challenging than the August spoilers. With the exception of the last one, which was challenging indeed, the others were all figured out within an hour of being found. Sleuthing the spoilers is my favorite part aside from getting my goody bags! icon_cheesygrin.gif

FYI I was the one that made that comment...and it was an analogy in reference to people posting on the Ipsy page about never having problems with the service when many people had missing bags this month. Nothing literal; I definitely wasn't trying to say that they were comparable in any way, although maybe if it was skimmed it could come across that way. I was just saying that it's rude to be so loud about your lack of problems when others aren't as fortunate.
