You know, last month I wondered if Urban Decay's strategy was this: Let's send out the brightest colors we have so that people can see how great our formula is--how creamy and how pigmented--but they won't want to wear our sample regularly because the sample is in a color that BLINDS YOUR EYES.  Then people will think this is great lipstick, but they'll all come to our website and buy our lipstick in colors human beings can actually wear in public!

Which, if I remember people's posts correctly, is pretty much what did happen.  icon_lol.gif

I agree with everyone who's saying that NYX eyeshadow isn't the most exciting thing, but on the other hand, it is something that most of us can and will use.

There's still lots of room for other items in the bag to be exciting--a whole 80% of the bag is still unknown!

Those that have been with ipsy a long time, what is it that keeps you subscribed? Has there been enough discovery of great products so it's worth getting the rest? It seems like the same brands over and over. The only thing I've discovered and wanted and gotten more of is the sexy hair beach spray.

I do love trading, I've discovered some great stuff through trading away ipsy items. Just curious what "finds" everyone else has had!

I've been with them consistently since the beginning, except for a couple of months after last Feb. I mean, it's pretty simple why I stay with them - I have liked every bag. Yes, there are a lot of repeat brands, but I always end up using everything and every bag is a good value, so for me it's not all about discovery...it's a combination of discovery, value, and fun. I get way more use and excitement out of the things I get from Ipsy than I ever did from Birchbox, for example, which is why I cancelled BB (twice, lol). For me, it's more exciting to get a full sized makeup item from a brand like NYX than it is to get a tiny foil of moisturizer from a brand that is new to me, but I could barely afford, especially after trying only such a small amount,  for example.

Of course, it's not for everyone and I get why some people don't love Ipsy. We all want different things from our subs, and that's why I usually have a few different ones at the same time...so each can serve a different purpose. :)

yes but now it seems that you need to refer 4 friends to get enough points to get a bonus :(

Seriously, this is messed up.  I finally got my second friend referral earlier this month and was expecting to get a bonus item in my September bag.  Of course they change the rules as soon as I qualified for an extra item.  Another notch in the bad Ipsy bag experience.

I've had Ipsy for over a year and my "finds" are:

Urban Decay 24/7 eye liners (2x)

Philosophy moisturizer

Josie Maran lip stain

demeter fragrances

Mirenesse lip bomb

theBalm mascara

bare mineral lip gloss

Benefit They're Real mascara

theBalm eyeshadow

Josie Maran argan oil

Pacifica lotion

Sexy Hair hairspray

Cailyn gel eyeliner

Glam RX palette

Lafresh makeup remover wipes

derm e scrub

charcoal cleanser

Urban Decay Revolution lip stick

3 makeup bags I use every day

While every month may not be a "winner" overall I've found several products that I really liked from Ipsy. I've had BirchBox about the same amount of time and I've found one product I liked with them. However, with the points system I was able to buy a BB cream and an eye cream that I loved. It all evens out in the end for me :-)

if its a pure white i could use that but it looks very silvery to me and that's too cool for my skin. even a color with silver frost is no good for me i need goldish shimmer so this might be a trade item but I'm fine with nyx, i loved the cream blush i got in a prior bag

Has anybody tried this product before? What do you think of it?

I logged in and saw that ipsy points is now active and you can see the list of people you referred. My list is a lot longer than I knew about, so it makes more sense now why I got all the referral gifts in the past. I have 1500 ipsy points and I'm wondering if I should use 1000 of them for the NYX palette or hold on to them till next month.

I'm gonna be the obnoxiously optimistic voice of dissent here, I think. Nyx is very hard to find in Canada, and I really liked the blush I got last month, so I am pretty thrilled by the prospect of a nice neutral highlighter shadow from them.

And thanks for bringing the new referral system to everyone's attention - I somehow had over 3k points so I threw caution to the wind and splurged on that bronze smokey kit, since it said there were only 36 left. XD

I do wonder if they're going to send out a "standard" referral gift anyway, and this is just going to be a sort of bonus we can choose to collect or not collect.

I stay subbed (even though I trade away 80% of my bag most months) because they have had some amazing bags and I'm afraid the month I cancel will be my ideal bag and I'll miss out.

I loved the Pacifica products I've received, the Sexy Hair Soy Renewal, the Demeter roll on, and the UD 24/7 liner.  Looking back there are many months I never used anything in the bag.  Time for me to consider if it's worth keeping.

I would be curious to hear opinions as well. NYX single shadows are fantastic, but their palette shadows can be hit or miss. I bough the Natural Eye Palette not too long ago and if it were any more than $7 I would be mad I spent the money. It's so underwhelming.

I would have preferred more of an off white or ivory matte, but I just bough a full size of my go to Maryloumanizer, so I won't mind getting a white, I will use it. Odd color for a sept bag though, maybe more wintery than fall. I would expect to see it in December .

OT I had knee surgery yesterday and am in agony. Can't seem to sleep with all the meds I'm taking. At least I have MUT to occupy my time, I am just trying really hard not to buy any thing. But if I do I'll blame it on the pain pills LOL:p
post #793 of 3584

I just want to point out that in Dec '12 we got a NYX pigment and the spoiler was only one colour, but we received one of like 10 colours I believe... so there may be more colours sent out.

It's got consistently positive reviews from Musings of a Muse, Makeup and Beauty Blog, and Corallista. Temptalia has decent reviews of the other two kits (purple and nude), but not one for this specific kit. The general consensus is that the lip colours are a bit useless, but the shadows are worthwhile.

I agree with this.  IpsyMatch is not always my friend (still mad that I didn't get Pacifica in my May bag... but I went and "loved" all of their products on Ipsy's site, and got the Pacifica BB Cream this month, so I know they're trying!), but I have found SO many things that I use regularly!  And about half of my other discoveries come from the chatter on these boards while we're waiting for spoilers!

Some of my "finds":

The Balm (got the Matt Batali shadow in my first bag, Nov 2012, and I'm now obsessed with the whole line!)

Pacifica

Josie Maran Argan Oil

UD Revolution Lipstick & 24/7 Eyeliner

Demeter Salt Air Perfume

Mirabella Lipstick

Bare Minerals lipgloss

Also, not sure if anyone saw this on Ipsy's FB, but the next Sneak Peek will be on Tues, 9/3! (at least, I hope they meant 9/3 and not 9/23!)

Ipsy P.S. So happy to see your excitement for September's sneak peeks! Due to the long weekend, we will continue posting them on Tuesday, 9/23, when we get back into the office.

Eeek! I hope everything went well, and your recovery goes smoothly!

NOTE THIS IS ME TRYING TO BE OPTIMISTIC!!

Ok so I have 1 other NYX shadow in frosted lilac and despite it being a couple years old it still feels smooth and its pigmited (Though my NYX all I ever wanted pallet that I got at Christmas time gets a thumbs down) Plus these shadows retail for $7 in Canada which = about half the bag price, and the colour seems to be almost universal in someway or another (inner corner or whole lid) So it doesn't seem to be something bad..... just not the exciting thing we needed for this late and stressful (For some) start I do have to say the fact that we don't know if we're getting 4 or 5 product bother me.....

Thanks moon blossom for your well wishes. And thank God for iPads lol
post #799 of 3584

Am I the only one who thought the spoiler was in a black and white filter?

I have the Nyx 112 color Box of Eye Shadows and the overall quality is pretty good for their price point. You will definitely want to use a shadow primer for best results.

I don't have that particular palette but I do have other palettes. Some of the colors are hits and some misses. I do recommend a good base/primer with these shadows as some times the colors are not as pigmented as it should be.

There's a bright blue highlight/flare along one end which would have been removed if it was run through a filter.

Here's the original:

And here's one I ran through a filter:

The difference is subtle, but it's there.

I ended up getting the Urban Decay IpsyMe lipstick/pencil duo in Venom. They put a link up on FB saying they had a few left and I used that. My YouTube is not connected to Ipsy since I have nothing on it and mainly use it to watch ASMR videos and sometimes make-up tutorials. I think I will like the color although it confuses me because looking for swatches it appears more pink on some people and darker on others. And definitely less darkly pigmented on the lips than in the tube. Thankfully, I have some black lip gloss/liquid lipstick (scented like marshmallows) that I can layer with it if I do want it darker sometimes.

As far as the NYX eyeshadow... I almost find myself wondering if that photo was converted to B&W, I mean that would be a cool little spoiler trick to do, but I suppose it would still be white even so. I have one matte white and a couple super shimmery white or near white colors, but nothing in between so something in between would be nice. And I like NYX, so while the spoiler is not super exciting, it is something I am almost positive I will like so I am happy with that ^_^

@Zadidoll, I'm the Jessica you kinda stuck up for a bit ago on facebook. Thank you for that. :)

I would have loved any product from Nyx that is less typical.  Perhaps their setting sprays or illuminator.  This eyeshadow seems like something most of us would have something similar to in our collections.

I wish they had just started with that instead!

It was just crazy and quite frustrating, I commented on YouTube and emailed IpsyCare yesterday to cancel it and guess what... I got the confirmation email today! So well I had to write again to IpsyCare, showing my disappointment... I just really hope they will really cancel it this time!

I don't know if that shadow color will look good on me. Let's hope for better things for the next few sneakpeeks :)

I'm excited about the first spoiler! A lot of eyeshadows just don't look too good on me and I tend to stick with more browns and colors like that, but I'm always excited about trying new colors!

In the email they will provide how to cancel. I accidentally clicked on the link too but I just cancelled this morning

I think I am going to hold out and see what comes up next month in the ipsy points program. These used to be my go-to colors, but I noticed my pan of mirabella semi formal and yaby azalea pearl are pretty much untouched as well as my bh cosmetics san francisco which all seem to be in the same color range. however, my yaby seashell has hit pan and my coastal scents lemon chiffon is completely empty which make me stoked about a white NYX single shadow!
