Ipsy Glam Bag: October 2013 SPOILERS discussion - Page 10

Alexander Henry fabrics are my absolute favorite!  I do like some Michael Miller and Robert Kaufman too though.  I make and sell stuff online, and I'm always after AH stuff. I LOVE all of the different Ghastlies prints, but, ugh.  It's so expensive everywhere.

Oh, and I'm one of those people that everyday is Halloween for as well, hahah.

So the mascaras sample are just piling up in my make up stash, and I don't know how to use them! This is super frustrating. For once in my life, ipsy, please make mascara an or item and don't send it to me if you really have to dump in mascara in ipsy bags.

I don't know if you have already tried this, but you might want to make an appointment at a salon, or at an Ulta or Sephora, or even a department store with a cosmetic professional. Someone who can physically show you how to apply mascara for your lash and eye type would be great. When I worked for Clinique many, many years ago I was in a geographical area where a large population of people with a Vietnamese heritage lived. I had to learn to apply makeup on so many skin colors, skin types, and eye shapes. It was a challenge but it was also fun.

Don't feel bad because you can't do it. None of us are born able to use all these cosmetic tools. It takes skill and practice. There are definitely a lot of different ways and techniques you can use, and you need to figure out what works for you. I strongly suggest getting help from an actual human being (as opposed to watching tutorials online and getting advice) I think it will really help. :smilehappyyes:

Not into a print like that one but I love the bag style.

Yep, I credit being a loser through my teenage years for my makeup skills. While the cool kids were doing the things cool kids do, I was spending my abundance of free time reading YM and Seventeen and practicing makeup.

Can I ask a dumb question? When I went to review the mascara from this month's bag, it said something about using the "lash card" to help when applying the mascara. Did that come in the bag? So confused.

The lash card came in a bag several months ago.

Mine is L'Oreal Voluminous with no Millions.

But Waterproof!  I have never found a mascara that works nearly as well as L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof on me.  Everything else--EVERYTHING--turns itself into oh-so-lovely dark undereye circles.  Just the look I'm going for!  I don't even bother trying the mascaras I get from Ipsy--what's the point?

I LOVE THIS!  I also love the goth Toule de Jouy fabric.  And Edward Gorey FTW!

I usually don't care about the bag at all, but if Ipsy sent out a bag with real personality, I would be beyond thrilled.  They could fill it up with mascara and eye liner and stupid body glitter palettes and John Frieda shampoo and conditioner and I would still be thrilled!

Lash Cards were sent out in the February 2013 bag. Hopefully these do not make a return in bags because I have so many "samples" from Beauty Army, Ipsy (all three of my girls gave me theirs in exchange for better items) and I think another subscription but can't recall. They're not bad but if you're nearsighted there is no way to hold it, a mirror and apply mascara at the same time. I have to use my stationary mirror when I used the Lash Cards and typically use to lift my eye so I can line the top waterline.

I signed up August 22 and am still on the waiting list, so I've been anxiously checking my inbox for good news about October. So excited to see what I get!

OMG I am way too emotional when it comes to animals of all kinds... let's say that I'd rather see a dead person laying on the street than a dead animal.. I just adore them so much! So I would never be able to do that (not judging, just saying it is interesting how different people look at the same situation differently)! I work in a research lab and had to get out of the lab one day when they sacrificed a little mouse for an experiment.. I felt so sad for days afterwards!

Just a request, but if it is possible to put the animal chat under a spoiler tag I would appreciate it.  I am really sensitive to that kind of stuff, and it is a little jarring to bump into that kind of info on the Ipsy thread.  Again, just a request.

I think you're right, and I'm sorry... no more animal chatting from me.

Hah, I've found the secret goths amongst us!  Me freakin' too, ladies. Every year I buy halloween decor that I incorporate into my regular, year-round decor. I love it, Halloween is by far my favorite time of the year. I've been to Target like 10 times since they started putting out Halloween decor items, lol.

Also, an Edward Gorey-type print on a bag would make me lose my mind!  Love Gorey, and that kind of artwork!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll be getting pink stuff for breast cancer awareness month in October.  I don't see many subs aligning with the big holidays each month.  But who knows, they could surprise us.

I'm not much of a Halloween person, not into the kooky prints.  Nothing wrong with them, they're just not universally appealing.

I would also love a Gorey-style print bag but I don't have high hopes that we'll get something that cool. A dark purple bag with a black velvet flocked design would also float my boat. :smilehappyyes:

Also, I do the same thing ewiggy! Sadly, I'm broke right now so I can't do any Halloween shopping this year. I'm hoping to be employed before the season is over so there is still hope!

I hope that we stop getting mascara in the bag. Even when it makes my lashes look amazing, I only trust waterproof. I grew up somewhere humid as f---, and even though I live in a drier climate now, I can't bring myself to trust non-waterproof normal stuff.

Also, it is nice to walk in the rain/cry/sneeze/rub your eye without becoming a raccoon!

But hey, with Halloween coming up, my corpsy Starlooks lip liner is going to come into play.

My phone's being bizarre and won't let me upload a picture, but I got an email from Ipsy today. I cancelled my sub a few days ago. The subject of the email was "Your September 'Classic Beauty' Brandy Offers Are Inside! Resubscribe to get these goodies NEXT month...."

Kind of makes it sound like another month of "recycling"... Could be totally wrong, but that's the impression I was left with.

I got the email also, and I cancelled prior to the September bag! Ipsy idiots!

I got the same email and that was my impression too. There was a small pine of copy below that, saying something like subscribe now to get brands like these. I'm almost hoping for some repeats this month- I had major bag envy in September.

I wouldn't mind some repeats either! As long as I don't get something that I previously got, I'm fine with it because to me it's still a new product to try. And I really wanted to try those eye gel things!

Oooh, off to go "love" some nail art!  Maybe I'll get some Butter London next month!  :eusa_pray:

All that goth talk reminds me of hanging out with my husband (boyfriend at the time, actually met him there) at the Goth Clubs. Goth makeup doesn't go with my skin tone so there are no pics of me in white makeup :P I should try some crazy makeup next time VNV Nation comes to San Diego, I didn't have much time for makeup last night for Depeche Mode.

I love VNV too! Apparently there's a new album coming out, and those that have heard samples promise good things. (I haven't heard anything from it yet).   I have a ton of gothy/industrial friends in SD. It's a smallish community, wonder if you'd know any of them lol! :) I missed DM when they were in Chicago, I was on gothcruise to Alaska:)

I can totally relate with the short and thin lashes.

I was going through a phase trying different products to encourage growth. My lashes have gotten better by: 1) not using a curler unless it's a special occasion 2) extra moisture for my lashes with vaseline, argan oil or almay moisturizing eye makeup remover pads. I was giddy when I saw tiny baby lashes starting to grow. It's been a year plus. For once in my darn life I have lashes on the bottom of my eyes. That said I still don't get through all the mascara sent to me. :)

The eye gels are nice but my Dollar Tree sells generic ones that work just as well. There were so many good things this month, it was hard to only get 3 of the 5!

I want Cailyn gloss and Jesse's girl liner!!!!
I realize that the liner is inexpensive, but I am WAY over budget this month, and with Christmas coming... I would love to have this in my bag smile.gif

Bag ideas (Found on Etsy)

I doubt we will get anything purple since we just got a purple bag...but hey a girl could wish.

I would love to see this stuff in my bag:

An oxblood color (lip stick or nail polish)

The Blam - skin care stuff or makeup remover (I have the face mask and remover - I love them and I think a lot of ladies here would too)

UD eye makeup (liner (not black) or shadow)

Cute head band:

Those bags are all amazing!

And ugggh, right now my wishlist is "anything that will fix stupid hormonal breakouts".

25 days out of the month, my skin is stable. Dry with an oily nose, but I know how to control it. Then PMS rolls in and it's HOLY CRIPES ZIT FARM time on my chin. Every month, without fail, no matter what I do. ><
