I don't know if you have already tried this, but you might want to make an appointment at a salon, or at an Ulta or Sephora, or even a department store with a cosmetic professional. Someone who can physically show you how to apply mascara for your lash and eye type would be great. When I worked for Clinique many, many years ago I was in a geographical area where a large population of people with a Vietnamese heritage lived. I had to learn to apply makeup on so many skin colors, skin types, and eye shapes. It was a challenge but it was also fun.
Don't feel bad because you can't do it. None of us are born able to use all these cosmetic tools. It takes skill and practice. There are definitely a lot of different ways and techniques you can use, and you need to figure out what works for you. I strongly suggest getting help from an actual human being (as opposed to watching tutorials online and getting advice) I think it will really help.
