I so wish we got things like that more often. I'm just ready for something different. Don't get me wrong, I love lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, and blush...but there is so much more out there, Ipsy! Body scrubs...foot creams...hand creams...lip scrubs...serums and various skin treatments...highlighters...an actual lip stain (not crayon)...a toner would be nice...leave in conditioner, Shea Terra black soap!, bath bombs...there's just so much, I'd love some variety!

I ditched the Ips a couple of weeks ago but I just can't quit the spoiler threads. ;)

My wishlist for all of you this month...

  • NO MASCARA!!

  • Nothing red, black, taupe, white, brown, or beige! Something on-trend instead of "safe" or "not selling well".

  • New and exciting brands never before seen in an Ipsy bag! Imagine the possibilities!

  • Nice quality TOOLS! Perhaps a nice blush brush for all of those Nyx blushes and Pixi bronzers or a fluffy kabuki!

  • Products that pamper the skin! Winter is harsh, yo!

Actually a duo chrome eyeshadow in red/black/taupe/white/brown/beige from any great indie brand will be super awesome.

I'd love to get hand creams or natural facial moisturizers.

For tools, EM had release their own line of brushes, I wonder if we can....:icon_wink

I agree with no red lip color or nail polish, but sending red eyeshadow -- the *right* red eyeshadow -- in a sub like this to get people to *try* it (since they already *have* it, why not *try* it?) would be an interesting move if the ipsy culture wasn't as heavily built around swaps as it has become.  I have this eyeshadow collection from Geek Chic Cosmetics, and He's Korean (sparkly ruby, aka *red*) is a fantastic crease color, especially with browns for lids and liners, as is Glamour Doll Eyes' Lovers Lane (metallic blood red).  I only tried the GCC color because I had the whole collection, and I was not willing to break up the set, so I decided to give it a shot one day with Stay in the House, Carl (a sparkly chocolate brown).  I fell in love with that combination and wore it almost every day for a few weeks (until _The Walking Dead_ went on hiatus.  I decided to put the set aside while the show was on hiatus so I could spend time with some other colors in my vast collection), and then when Lovers Lane showed up in sample baggie form in a GDE order, I was already predisposed to try it as well.  It is also gorgeous, and now I have a sample jar as well (I hate those damned baggies).

Anyway.  Red/brown shadow combos remind me of chocolate-covered cherries.  Although I don't like them as food, I do like the color combination on my eyes.  But since swapping has become such a huge thing, I just *know* most people would throw a fit over OMG RED EYESHADOW!  WHO WEARS *THAT*?  MUST SWAP THIS ASAP! instead of actually *trying* it and *playing* with it and making sure it truly doesn't work for them -- and maybe discovering that, whoa, actually, it looks pretty awesome if I use just a little bit right *here*.  Or a whole lot of it right *there*.

(I canceled a while ago as well but also can't quit the spoiler threads!  Actually, one of my main reasons for canceling is in fact relevant to this point/post:  I got "safe" things for multiple months in a row.  Red lip color, black mascara, and black liquid eyeliner.  I signed up thinking that they would send things to broaden my color horizons beyond my usual purples on my eyes and hot pinks or reds on my lips.  I was sadly mistaken.  Apparently, they saw my age and automatically sent me the Generica -- what most people refer to as the "crowd-pleaser," but they did not please this crowd because *so safe* -- bags.)

(ETA:  Yeesh, I spent an *hour* composing this between bouts of coughing.  I am ready for this to be *over*.  I'm wary of going to bed because I'm a bit afraid that laying down will just make things worse.)

I'm a huge fan of red eyeshadow and have rocked it on the regular since the early '90's. One of my all time favorite shadows was a beautiful mandarin red shadow by L'Oreal that I would give anything to see make a return. Considering all of the complaints I have seen on Ipsy's fb about red lipstick being "too much" for some subscribers, I think red shadow would go over about as well as the J.Cat glitter palettes. laughs.gif

Still, I would love to see Ipsy start pushing some boundaries. I think a lot of people would give "unorthodox colors" a try since, as you said, why not try it since it's already there. As for those that run straight for the swap lists, I have plenty of "safe" cosmetics just waiting to be traded away for more interesting goodies. ;)

I cancelled Ipsy after receiving lash products (3 mascaras, 1 set of lashes) in 4 of my last 5 bags despite not having them selected on my quiz and giving them all horrible reviews. I also received a red lip product in every bag from August through November. Let's not even discuss how many repeat brands there have been since I subbed in May. Not exactly the variety I expect from a subscription service. :doze:

speaking of lip scrubs, that has been on my list for a long time. I almost bought the Sugar one in Sephora the day after Christmas but did not want to pay $22 for it.  Is there another brand/type anyone can tell me about that I can try since it seems the ipsy gods are not listening to us for lip scrubs?

I've heard you can make a lip scrub with sugar, coconut oil, and a little essential oil but I don't have a recipe.

If you have a Lush store near you, they have some amazing lip scrubs for around $8.95, I think. Of course you can order online too. If you are not familiar with the brand, you simply MUST try a bath bomb too. There's a Lush thread on here with lots of other awesome recommendations of products to try as well. Warning...Lush is addictive!

It's very easy, you probably don't even need a recipe, just a good eye for the right combination/texture that you prefer. I usually use just olive oil, sugar, and a little honey (for sweetness and stickiness), but essential oils, coconut oil, and things like food coloring or flavoring, are also fun options to add in. If I had to give a ratio, I'd say 1 part sugar, 3/4th part olive oil, 1/4th part honey, but really it depends on individual preferences and what else you are adding.

If you're only making enough for a one time use, you just need a tiny bit of each ingredient. If you want to make enough for a few weeks, just store it in an air-tight container in the fridge.

here is a fantastic site to create your own lip scrubs

http://www.brit.co/sugar-lip-scrubs/

several to pick from.  very easy to do.  I get lip scrubs in my indie subs, but I also make them myself.  Why pay that type of money for something that simple?

I got Ipsy for about 8 months Dec 2012-July 2013 and that January bag was my favorite!  I feel like it was the last bag before I noticed crazy variations between bags and by the middle of summer I was bored...but I still get items when my sister doesn't like things in her sub!

I second the Lush lip scrubs.  They work very well and are in pleasant flavors.  I use the bubblegum one and it's a lifesaver.  Also...Lush is the most addictive, be careful ; )

For the price, I'm actually really fond of elf's lip scrub.

http://www.eyeslipsface.com/studio/lips/lip_balm/lip_exfoliator

It's quite stiff, I just pass it over my lips two or three times to get the big flakes off, and then rub the excess into my lip with my finger when I'm done.

I finally got the Lush popcorn lip scrub for Christmas and IT'S AMAZING (not to mention delicious)!

This is making me want to pull my red eye shadows out and give them a whirl. I went through this phase trying to hunt down a good red and never found one I liked. I came somewhat close with the Maybelline Pomegranate Punk color tattoo (Which I LOVE) But it's not a true red. and the one in my coastal scents palette is just "meh" at best. I never thought of trying it with a red/brown combo so thank you for that suggestion. I think that's what I'll experiment with today.

I agree that most people wouldn't be willing to try it and that surprises me because that to me is the whole point of a sub. There were some things I have gotten and my first impression was 'Oh no I will hate that" Or "Oh that will look awful on me" But I still try it and most of the times those products become my favorites. It's all about the gamble and $10 isn't a steep risk.

EDIT: I just used the red from my Coastal Scents palette and I take my ""Meh' at best" comment back. The red is incredible. I have found a new favorite look.

Starlooks has a crazy cheap one if you're lazy like me and don't want to make your own. It's actually pretty good, too, and tastes nice.

I second it being very easy! I use brown sugar because I like the smell and grit it has more than plain ol sugar, some honey and a little bit of olive oil or jojoba oil or really any oil that I have around and mix it up until it's a consistency I like. While there's some great scented ones out there I can never seem to justify buying something that I can make incredibly easily and with stuff I've already got in my cabinet.

I make my own lip scrub using 2 tsp brown sugar, 1/2 tsp honey or agave, 1 tsp olive oil, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract. I love it. I can't use coconut because I'm allergic but you could probably substitute coconut for something if you like that. :)

Equal parts honey and sugar and just a bit of olive or coconut oil til you like the consistency. Super easy, super cheap. :)

I got a sample of the Kiss nail art kit that they're offering for points.  It's going to retail for 9.99.  I'd say save your points for something else unless you're really JUST getting started with nail art.  My blog has the full review, but that's about the summary of it unless you wanna go look at what I did with the kit.

I would love for this bag to have a good nail polish base/top coat. And a brush. I so wanted the Mirabella brush and didn't get it.

@biancardi I can't get enough of glitter polishes smile.gif

I love them too!!  I have color club's savoy nights on right now - I feel so glam! (hint, if folks want the harlem lights collection, go to ebay...I bought 3 of them for 5.20 apiece - free shipping!)   But I really want to try a matte shade - a real matte nailpolish.

I also wanted that mirabella brush too!  I hope that brush pops up in future bags, like other items did (mai tai nailpolish, chella highlighter, starlooks lip liner.)

I'm hoping for a nice face mask - I'm actually using the one the Glamglow mask I received a month or two ago! I'm a sucker for face products....

im getting kind of tired of ipsy! i have two subsrcriptions and still miss out on the stuff i want like the demeter perfume and julie g! i think after jan i will only get one bag....

my problem is that the colors are always the same not selling well colors. black or neutral eyeshadwo, red or berry lips, red nails. come on who doesnt own that stuff already!? be a bombshell, starlooks are two brands that just arent that great yet we keep getting them. when we do get a good brand like nyx the colors are horrible or they are a crappy product! i want to see best sellers!

for this bag I would love to see some body products, ZOYA! always, good quality everyday pink lipstick, maybe some good concealers...

I would love a matte polish only because I don't have one. My favorite glitter right now is julep mila and julep jane. Love it. My mom got me a fun purple chunky glitter from urban outfitters for Christmas that I can't wait to try.

I do agree that we get a lot of red lippies but for me that is an everyday color so it seems to work out.  Body products would be great.
