Ipsy Glam Bag: January 2014 (Spoilers/Discussion!) - Page 7

I know some of you didn't care for it but personally I'd like to see more Mirabella lipsticks. I have four and love the shades but since we just had Mirabella in our bags I doubt we'll see anything from Mirabella for a few months. We had the Colour Sheers but not the Pretty & Provocative.

I also wanted that mirabella brush too!  I hope that brush pops up in future bags, like other items did (mai tai nailpolish, chella highlighter, starlooks lip liner.)

I just tried on my Julep Billie Jean the other day and it dries to a matte finish.  If you look at the review on Julep's site, people complain about it being matte, but I freaking LOVED it.  They all act like putting top coat on for shine is soooooo much trouble when I'm thinking "Top coat is standard operating procedure for me!"  Unless I'm going for the matte look, obviously.

LUSH makes some awesome sugar lip scrubs!

lol clearly i responded prior to reading all the other people say LUSH!  :)

I am shocked to say, I absolutely LOVE the EM mascara that was in the bag a few months ago.

I just tried it over the holidays and it really is fantastic. Plus it's one of the only mascara's that doesn't give me raccoon eyes. (and I've tried them all)

So I am now curious to try some of her other products.

YES. That's one of the things I would be most excited to get! I was super bummed I missed out on getting the Michael Todd pumpkin face mask a while back :(

I third!  I have Posy and Pixie and they're both awesome!  I can't wait for summer so I can wear Pixie again (it's a VERY summery coral!)

Yes to this! I loved the color sheers! I traded for four different colors of them, they were great!

I loved the Mirabella lipstick I got!  It's definitely one of the items I wouldn't mind seeing again.

I got one of them (the more lavender  one...Daydream maybe?) And it's amazing. I would love more!

I'm not big into Buffy, and I've never watched Firefly (I know, bad nerd, lol). But I will definitely check them out once their shop is reopened. I have a feeling indie eyeshadow is going to be my new indie nail polish.

Just since we're on the topic...does anyone want my Mirabella Pixie? I swatched it once when I first got it, it's terrible on me!

For matte polish, look up manglaze. Soooo pretty, and so smooth.

I have to agree with the "too much red" topic; I have received at least one red item in my bags since August. Not that I don't use a lot of it, I just want to see more variety and please, less lash stuff! Additionally, I am thoroughly sick of "Pop" and "Be A Bombshell", and yes, I would be really happy if I never see another "J.Cat" item again. Definitely would like to see more "Benefit" as well as "Coola" products. Finally, it would be nice to receive a different style bag, while I do LOVE the December bag, its just like the one from June. Same with the April, August and October, pretty much the same bag with different pattern and color. I think my favorite one so far was the "Great Escape" from March 2013, I loved the design and material. I keep thinking of cancelling, but the idea of missing out on something wont let me

I'm itching for spoilers, it's like torture.

I totally agree, I wish we'd get some Urban Decay, or Tarte.. I love tarte, or smash box. We get Be a Bombshell too much… and their products are not impressive.

I'd love to try a sample of the new Benefit Lollitint

I would LOVE to get Urban Decay, Tarte, Smash box or Benefit. To me, this bag is an opportunity to try samples of brands that are waaay out of my price range. I don't want to keep getting brands I've never heard of or whose products are mediocre... :icon_neut

I agree. Side note: I think it's strange that Be a Bombshell's products are priced so high for what seems like a lower end brand. (This is just my opinion, but their logo makes me think it's geared toward tweens.) I've been pleased with the Bombshell products I've received so far, and I'm happy to have had a chance to try them out, but I'd never pay full price for them.

I haven't been very impressed. I got their jumbo lip pencil, it was a bright red.. Love the concept of those products, but I wore mine to a party, Literally had it on for an hour maybe an hour and a half.. when I go to check on it in the restroom, its almost completely faded except around the lines of my lips. It looked like I was just wearing lip liner, AND it bled out a bit. Needless to say I haven't used it again. So for me, that was a waste.

As for the One stick… I don't wear red on my cheeks, and its way too glittery for me to wear on my lips.. But thats my opinion. I'm more of a matte person.

I'm not complaining though, I love Ipsy! I just wish we'd get some high end stuff :icon_roll

I'm not sure who they're trying to target. Their models look like 40-somethings and likely friends of the owner. And what mom is letting their tween out of the house wearing Hot Damn? I won't let myself out of the house. Given the number of full size Be a Bombshell products in sub boxes lately makes me think that the markup on their products must be astronomical, along with the high percent off coupons they seem to send out regularly. Also, I find their website kind of a turn off...it looks like it was made by someone's nephew. Right now their brand image definitely doesn't jive with their prices.

While Tarte's website is nicer, I'm still skeptical of the high-value coupons and sales they have regularly, along with the discrepancy in prices between the individual products and sets...like, you can buy a single Lipsurgence pencil for $24, or a set of 5 full size Lipsurgence pencils for $36. It devalues the items in their regular line. Also, I think that Tarte has a bit of an image crisis trying to straddle the line between "natural and organic" and "luxe and high-end." I think that a company like Red Flower does a better job balancing natural and high-end, where half of Tarte's stuff looks like Prince designed the packaging, and the other half comes in flimsy, uncoated cardboard stamped "FROM THE AMAZON." I got a sample of Tarte's Maracuja oil and NUDE's skin oil at around the same time, and for being close to the same product in almost identical bottles, the extra care NUDE took in packaging and presentation would make me much more likely to repurchase their product over Tarte's.

I feel the same way about The Gap. I'll occasionally shop there, but will feel like a sucker buying anything at full retail price, knowing it will be marked down to a fraction of the original cost in weeks.

Yes! Manglaze has some GREAT mattes.

I think I may be canceling before January comes. I try to be mindful of the ingredients in my makeup and Ipsy keeps sending items that contain things I need to avoid. :/ I've had some good luck trading but when I'm trading away 3/5 of my bag each month it's just not worth it to me. Sad to see it go!

I NEED this!!!

I'm seriously spoiled for mattes from them. I don't think I can get them anywhere else. Haha.

OMG I ordered Billie Jean and now I can't wait to try it!!! Does the Matte go away with a top coat? Or are you wearing it solo? I like having the option but notice that some Matte polishes sometimes need 2 top coats to finish glossy.
