LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "X-Files" star David Duchovny, who currently plays a womanizing writer on the cable television series "Californication," said on Thursday he has entered a facility for treatment of sex addiction.


Duchovny, 48, sprang to fame starring as the conspiracy-minded FBI agent Fox Mulder on Fox network's paranormal thriller "The X-Files," which spawned two big-screen spinoffs, one of which ran in theaters this summer.


He has been married since 1997 to actress Tea Leoni, with whom he has a 9-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son.


"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction," he said in a statement released through his lawyer, Stanton "Larry" Stein. "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."


There were no further details in the statement, which was first reported on the Web site of People magazine, people.com.


In January, he won a Golden Globe Award as best comic actor for playing an oversexed single dad and novelist struggling with writer's block in the Showtime series "Californication."

This makes me sad for some reason. I was/am a fan of X Files. I hope it was just porn and not him stepping out on his wife.

I just saw this on the news and went and told my fiance', "guess what actor went to rehab for sex addiction?" He said Charlie Sheen, lol. I hope David didnt cheat either. I like him and Tea together.

David produced a series called "Red Show Diaries". All the stories are quite erotic and you would definately see them after 11pm. Very sexy and lots of nudity.

I hope he learns some self control.
However, I get tired of people who act irresponsibly and then blame it on an "addiction".

This seems to be one of those addictions that's coming to light a bit more often now. I know I watched a Lifetime movie a few years ago about a husband with a sex addiction. Unfortunately, the world is overrun with sex these days IMHO.

A few years ago, I saw an interview with a German (or European, I can't remember) masseuse that was female, and the assumption was that he was cheating on his wife with the masseuse. I don't remember the details because this was years ago.

I dont know a lot about it, but I would believe it would be, since other addictions such as drug and alcohol are diseases.

Lmao Celly what the thought of him having a sex addiction or him having sex at all?

I hope he hasn't cheated on his wife. When I read the story in the paper I was a bit confused 'cos I couldn't figure out whether it was implying he had cheated or he hadn't.

I do belive that many men have very high sex drives ,they gotta learn how too keep it in check
.. and if they cheat its his decision not his addictions decision

I was just thinking about Spitzer - you know the loser that was paying big bucks to keep hookers in comfort.
It wasn't until he got caught that he was diagnosed a sex addict.
Prior to that, he was just a dog that was deceiving everyone.

I read an article recently that said it was for porn addiction, and that he hasn't cheated on his wife. I guess time will tell if that is true.
