Beauty Lips Skin Care

DIY Exfoliating!

With hot summer days still going strong, keeping my body smooth and exfoliated is still on the top of my beauty priority list. I will be the first to admit that I have wasted WAY too much money buying body scrubs, lip scrubs and others of that sort. Then I discovered some great do-it-yourself recipes for just as fabulous exfoliators to get rid of all that dead skin.
Not only are you making your wallet happy with these at-home products, but you’re going a little “green” too. All of these recipes are natural and earth friendly, especially if you reuse the same container for new batches.

I am prone to having very dry and cracked lips due to harsh acne medications, so I love exfoliating them! It makes for a smooth surface to apply lipsticks on to and it feels nice too. I stumbled across this super simple recipe quite a while ago and have been using it religiously ever since. All you have to do is get a small dish or container and put about 2 tablespoons of sugar with a drizzle of olive oil and mix it up! I just scoop up some of the scrub with my lips and get right to exfoliating. Rubbing in little circular motions is the best way to go, or you could use a toothbrush to apply it with as well. It feels amazing, and once you are done just wipe off the excess with a cloth or paper towel. I usually apply some Carmex or Blistex right after so I can lock some extra moisture in.

My body is the next issue to conquer. I find myself in a bikini way too often and want to achieve the smoothest skin possible. My main trouble areas are my elbows and knees, but I tend to slather this up on my whole bod. It is just as simple as the lip scrub, it’s just made in a larger amount. You can use sugars or salts for this, but I like the yummy smell and the gentle touch of brown sugar. Mix up one cup of the course brown sugar and your choice of 1/2 cup of baby oil or olive oil. Leave it sealed in a container overnight so everything can soak together. Then you’re ready to go! I like to do this in the shower, and especially before I shave my legs. This will help you get the closest shave for the smoothest legs possible!

With sandals and summer comes exposed feet. You could go running for a pedi every week, or you could save some cash and whip up this fab foot scrub. Simply mix up a half a cup of course sea salt with 1/4 of olive oil. Lather your feet up with this exfoliating goodness and then rinse. If you have the time, I suggest soaking your feet in a tub of warm water and epsom salts for at least 10 minutes. This will make it easier to get rid of dead skin. This scrub can also be used on your hands before an at-home mani too!

You can mix any of your favorite essential oils into these for added bonuses if you please!
In my opinion, DIY scrubs are the way to go! They are super cheap, easy, and completely natural. How do you keep your skin looking smooth and sexy for the summer time?
