Numerous products are being sold to consumers claiming to be the quick-fix to their beauty issues. Another to add to the list are primers, which are sold by many makeup/skincare brands. Primers come in many forms, serve many purposes and come in a variety of finishes.
A primer can help makeup last longer, provide a smooth canvas for makeup application (easier application) and, lastly, improve the longevity of your makeup.
With so many products on the market, it can be very confusing to determine which primer is suitable for you and your needs. (I recommend going to Sephora and asking for a sample of different brands and testing each one.)
Some primers contain silicone, which can feel very smooth to the touch. It fills in lines and wrinkles providing the smoother canvas, that way, your makeup doesnt settle into fine lines and can help to cover up acne/scars and pores. Some primers also have SPF, or prevent the production of oil on the skin, which ultimately helps makeup to last longer.
After my testing of three products, my conclusion to this question is: YES, PRIMERS DO WORK!
The three that I tried were:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion (For eyeshadow.)
- Korres Face Primer (With Vitmain C.)
- Avon Magic X Face Perfecter (With SPF 20.)
All three are winners in my book. After applying the Urban Decay Primer, using INGLOT colored pigments, I did a 20 minute intense workout and after all the sweating, my eyeshadow application looked great. Normally, my eyeshadow would have faded.
As for the two face primers, with each one, I applied less makeup to hide my imperfections because my face was smoother and picked up the makeup better. After a full day’s work, my t-zone tends to get oily, but after using these primers, my face was less shiny than usual and the products helped to keep the oil production under control. Oil produced during the day tends to erase makeup and normally touch-ups are required, however, with these lifesavers, there is no need!
So, if you have acne, wrinkles, or oily skin… PRIMERS ARE YOUR FRIEND! Make sure to find a brand that works for you. These brands happened to work for me. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t find one that works for you right away! Finding the right primer will take some work!
