• About Me

I never know what to write about myself. I am a makeup addict, like I'm reasonably sure most of you are :-) I was a long time lurker on MUT before signing up and have never looked back!

• My Interests
Long walks on the beach, and candlelit dinners - OK not really. I am an artist, arm chair history buff, book lover, food lover, makeup addict, and nail polish connoisseur.
• My Occupation
Contracts Admin./ Cemetery Tour Guide (no joke)
• My Beauty Product Wish List
I have been searching for Julep's Selena (creamy moss green crème polish) FOR-EV-ER. It would be my holy grail.

Zoya Polish in Flynn

Nail Stamping plates that aren't frilly. I'm so not frilly.
• My Favorite Makeup Brands
Zoya, NYX, Smashbox, Clinique
1. Exactly! The point system was a huge part of why I initially subbed to this particular box, but with Sephora Play now in the game...sorry Birchbox. I found that I bought more if I had a few points to spend with my purchase, but what incentive do we have now?
2. So, I just received the following email from Birchbox regarding their updated point system and I can't say that I'm too happy about the changes. For those who have not received it, I've pasted it below: "Hi there, I'd like to personally thank you for being one of our top reviewers, your feedback is valuable to both the Birch box community and to our team as we create your personalized boxes month over month. I'm emailing today because we are updating the Birchbox Points program next month and I want you to be one of the first to know . Beginning July 11, 2016, you'll see the following changes: • We've heard your feedback and you'll now be able to spend Points in any increment-no more waiting until you hit 100 Points to shop. Every 10 Points equals $1 to spend on full-size products. • Any Points earned after July 11, 2016 will expire six months from the date you earn them. But don't worry-we'll always send you a reminder so you have plenty of time to shop! • Going forward, we will only offer Points for your first five sample reviews. New subscribers will earn points for the first five sample reviews in their subscription, and as an existing subscriber you'll have the same opportunity. Starting with your July box, you'll receive 10 Points for each of the next five samples you review. Until the changes take effect on July 11, 2016, you'll earn and spend Points the same way you have in the past. We want to assure you that we value your reviews and will continue to use them to build boxes that fit your tastes. We're happy to share that, as always, you will still be able to earn Points by shopping, inviting friends, and gifting Birchbox. Thank you again for being a valuable member of the Birchbox community. Feel free to reference our FAQ for more details, and please don't hesitate to visit info.birchbox.com with any questions. Thank you, Katia Beauchamp Birchbox CEO" The points program is one of the main reason I subscribe to this particular box and why Birchbox, for me at least, is a stand-out subscription. While I appreciate bullet point 1, the other two detract from the whole sub in my opinion. I'm curious to know what everyone thinks about this. As for me, I think I'll be unsubbing after my next box as the samples alone don't always do it for me.
3. So, I'm curious - do you think that L'Oreal is more apt to choose participants based on their past surveys? I say this because in the last 5 months, I have gotten into 1-2 surveys per month, literally. I'm wondering if it is just dumb luck, or is there something to it?
4. This was the response I got from MIstura: Mistura Beauty Solutions Hi Kristin. Thank you so much for having taken the time to write to us. We are absolutely devastated by the breakage we have experienced with our Boxycharm shipments. It appears that the customized component that we used for this campaign did not hold up to the drastic temperatures between NYC and FLA. The product was frozen and then heated during shipment which caused this breakage. Boxycharm has asked to refer all customer concerns to them directly so they can handle it internally. From our end, we can only recommend that you switch the concealer to a different container and use it normally. The product will still perform perfectly despite having broken in the tubing. We are so very sorry for the inconvenience Kristin. This was an unfortunate sequence of events that we have certainly learned from. We need to exercise more caution when shipping during such cold temperatures. Thank you again xo. I don't know how I feel about this.
5. So, I was pretty miffed about the whole Mistura thing, since I had been wanting to try them for a bit. My corrector came completely destroyed and Boxycharm gave me points, yes. But, I felt like Mistura should have owned up and replaced the damaged goods. So I posted on their Facebook regarding the incident and we shall see what comes of it.
6. I actually really like the corrector - however - it came totally annihilated in the box. It was broken in half, smeared all over, destroyed. I emailed Boxycharm yesterday, so far no response :-( I used my finger to test it out today, though and I found that it blended really well! I used it for my under eyes, some ruddiness on my cheeks, a few red spots, etc. and I found that I only had to add a little extra concealer on only my toughest zits.
7. I know. I look like a total a-hole in brights. I wish they would at least have an option to choose whether we are more into neutrals or brights, and base our boxes off of that. At least I can work with a neutral. If I even try the bright stuff and don't like it, it becomes a waste.
8. I've found that if it does not specifically state that you must return the product or provide a return envelope, you don't have to return it. I've only gotten one request to return a mascara in all the studies I've done, and it was in the directions for the product test. I wouldn't worry about it - hope this helps!
9. I loved the lipstick and thought it had great wear time an was super comfy to wear....oh but that color! EEEK! It looked like Satan's anus, seriously. If this came in nude tones, it would be my holy grail, probably. Unfortunately, I thin they are gearing this line of lipstick up to be bright, judging from the questionnaire.
10. I would love love love a palette (maybe a contouring pallet, ehhhhh?), but I think the chances are slim. Other than that, I'd like to try: A powder eyeliner, a la L'oreal Smokissime. A super hydrating dry skin treatment (I feel like my face is going to flake off any day now). Colored mascara, since I'm too skeptical to actually buy one myself. I'm open to anything,, I just want a spoiler already, though!
11. **HIGHFIVE** I mean, why not, right? They are really lovely in person, too. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm super curious to see how it comes out.
12. So, I used the Tarte Maracuja on my pasty, pale skin last night (3-4 drops) and lo and behold this morning, I'll be damned if I didn't have a bit of a glow! It looked natural and warm, not at all orangy and Tan Momesque. I have never used a faux tanner of any kind, but am super happy I decided to give this one a try. Overall, this being my first Boxycharm, I dig it. I even like the tattoos, which would be great nail art.
