  1. Goals for November: getting ready to enjoy the holidays in December, and making an early start on New Years Resolutions. Work on credit card with balance of $335. I have a goal to pay it off in the beginning of February, 2020. Therefore, I hope to reduce the balance some more by the end of 2019. Also this month I want to use some more things up, because in December I will have my Advent Calendar. Use up Yves Rocher Golden Tea Shower Gel - this is the holiday shower gel from last year. Use up Sahajan Eye Cream mini - almost done. Use up Sisley Body Scrub mini - almost done. Finish travel pack of Member's Mark Makeup Wipes. Try to finish a few more little items.
  2. In time for Valentine's Day, a little haul from Shop Miss A came today. I love it. Shop Miss A is an online makeup shop where everything is $1.00. I've been buying for years from them, but I am excited to see that they have more skin, hair, and body care items now! And the products are quality. Research revealed that many of the new skin, hair, and body products come from Fisk Industries on New York. Fisk makes Barielle, a quality nail care line, and hair products distributed by Sally Beauty Supply, among others. You can get hair masques, scrubs, serums, hand creams, body oils, for $1 each! I notice a lot of things sell out often on Shop Miss A. So I check the New Arrivals sections often. You have to stay on top of it. I also try to keep a budget and limit myself to 5 items or fewer so my total will be under $10.00 with shipping on each order. Latest haul: Luxe Beauty Care Collagen Skin Cream - full sized skin cream for $1.00, in a nice box. It does have mineral oil, characteristic of a lower priced cream. But also shea butter. I don't mind mineral oil. A0A Studio Pure Cotton Squares - great Shiseido cotton dupes for $1.00. Package is little, so you have to purchase these often, but they are great! Pink faux fur makeup bag - Lancome had a promo with a pink faux fur bag and I wanted it so badly, but I think you had to pay $60.00 for the GWP, so I had to pass it up. I got this instead! Dermactin T-S 2 step collagen masque - This is from Fisk Industries. I love 2 step sheet masques. It even comes in a little sleeve like a CD case. Cute! Excited and only want to shop more from Shop Miss A! I have another haul on the way with Fisk hair balm, scrub and some other things.

  5. I'm excited for No Buy June! My Products: Nature Queen Shampoo and Conditioner deluxe samples Erno Laszlo Firmarine mini facial bar Mary Kay "Boss Moss" eye shadow sample duo card Borghese mascara Kenet MD mini massage bar soap Tata Harper Resurfacing Masque mini Sisley eye contour masque foil pack; Sisleya Essential Skin Care Lotion mini; and Eau de Campagne Body Lotion mini. These are from the June 2017 "The Long Weekend" beauty subscription box, so I hope to have fun using these on the weekends this month, and I hope they will inspire me to relax more. Goal: The next debt in my snowball is: $529.45. Goal is to start paying it off this month, as I would like to have it paid off by the end of July. I would really like to succeed this month and be able to celebrate one whole half year on No Buy!
  6. Not exactly a no buy, but a challenge. To give up online shopping and to operate on a cash basis. To withdraw seven twenty dollar bills each week ($20 per day) from the ATM to cover groceries, eating out, cosmetics, and entertainment. To leave all other money in bank to cover bills. I wonder if I can make this a fun adventure, and if this will actually allow me to enjoy things more?? This is kind of a necessity for me now, but I am trying to make it a creative endeavor. So with this plan I CAN buy beauty products, but not online, as I will be operating on cash, and they will have to be in budget. Not only do I have debt, but I have had my card hacked recently from online shopping. That was a truly awful experience. I will try, but I am not a frugal person at all. No, not at all!!!
  7. Hey all I just found a cool website post that has some tips for saving money on makeup, some are kind of obvious but I still found it usefull! Hope some of you enjoy it I Copied this article from Freebie Hunter but the list was written by Miranda Mendoza! 1. Shop the drugstore. “You can find a drugstore alternative to most high end products,” says Mendoza. “While it’s fun to splurge once in a while, there are some products that are just not worth it. This is especially true with makeup and beauty tools that need to be repurchased regularly.” Mascara should typically be replaced every three to six months for sanitary reasons, so buying a luxury brand may not be worth it. “There are so many high-performing budget alternatives. My favorites are Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara ($6) and Maybelline The Falsies Mascara ($6), both of which lengthen, define, and volumize for maximum effect.” 2. Buy in bulk. “For the best value, try buying makeup palettes or sets as opposed to individual products like single eyeshadows,” says Mendoza. “These are typically a better value and are much more convenient to bring on the go!” Do your research and look for a palette where you’ll get use out of every single shade so nothing goes to waste. 3. DIY your beauty products. “One of my beauty-money resolutions this year is to make my own DIY products,” says Mendoza. “I’ve already made my own lip scrub and plan on concocting my own face and hair masks. Not only will this save money since ingredients are inexpensive at the market, but will most likely be more natural.” Many ingredients may already be in your home. 4. Return if you need to. “Saving money on beauty most commonly means shopping the drugstore, but as there are normally no testers to see if a product works, you have to take the risk before the reward,” says Mendoza. “One of the biggest ways I see people waste money on beauty is when they purchase a product, don’t like it, and let it collect dust for months. However, almost all drugstores have a return policy on makeup— even after it’s been opened! There’s no point in throwing money away on products you won’t use. Get your money back and use it on something you’ll love!” If you’re unsure about a product, ask a cashier about the store’s return policy before you buy. 5. Extend the life of your products. “Making sure that your products stay in good shape for as long as possible is key to stretching your dollar,” says Mendoza. This means storing makeup at room temperature in a dark location—not the bathroom where you’d typically keep your grooming items. “The humidity from the shower and airborne germs encourage bacteria to thrive on your products. This is especially true for your brushes, which most people store uncovered. Mendoza says it’s important to clean makeup brushes, which are often neglected, using items you already have, to keep them in tip top shape. 6. Stock up on samples. “Retailers like Ulta and Sephora usually offer free makeup and skincare samples with every purchase,” says Mendoza. “You can also search online for coupons to use— a lot of affordable brands will offer them when they launch a new product! Another great way to try a ton of new beauty is subscription boxes. Usually priced between $10-$25, you receive about five products delivered to your door that would normally cost you well over what you spend for the box. This way you can experiment with a variety of different products stay within your budget.” Mendoza’s favorites are Boxycharm, Glossybox, and Beauty Box 5. 7. Know that it’s OK to splurge sometimes. “A couple products that I don’t mind splurging on are good skincare and lipstick. Skincare is so personal that it can take a lot of testing the waters before you find something that works for you—and if it works well, it’s worth the money.” Just test in a store or with a sample before you commit. Mendoza says younger women particularly love experimenting and stocking up on products, so remember it’s never too soon—or too late—to make a financial plan. Miranda Mendoza!
  8. I thought of a new idea for no buy, taking it one week at a time. I posted in another thread how I was on a binge last week and I am having a hard time getting in no buy mode. To deal with this and the Sunday blues of having to go to work tomorrow, I am going to: Clean my room and visualize having a good week, then choose beauty products to use this week and put them in a pretty box or bag. They can be new things and nice things. Post photo of them here. Focus on enjoying them this week. Try not to buy, and if I get paid, pay a bit of debt off. If I mess up, I can begin again next Sunday. Every week can get better and easier, right?
  9. I have decided that on January 1st, 2015 that I will undertake a 100 day no-buy challenge. My stash is monstrous, it needs to be used, and I need to stop the mentality of "saving it for something special". My Momma and Ninny always saved things for something special, when Ninny died all her nicest things were untouched, unused. My Momma is bedridden and disabled, this year I am going to use her best china, crystal, and silver for the holidays. They have never been used since purchased back in 1962, two years before I was born! This stops with me. I am special enough to use my nice things. I will not worry about "messing it up", makeup is meant to be used, not treated as a genuine Faberge egg for Pete's sake! I've started using my best perfumes on a daily basis already and it makes me so happy! My rules will be: 1.No beauty/makeup purchases whatsoever for 100 days, commencing on Jan 1, 2015 2. Current subscriptions can be kept, but no new subs can be added. 3. Can participate in Circular Swaps or Secret Exchanges 4. Can only purchase basic hygiene items, toothpaste, deodorant, Cetaphil Cleanser when they run out. 5. Use things from my stash daily, even if I am just staying at home. I would love to have company and friends on this journey. Whether you want to do the challenge, or just give support, I hope people will join this thread. If you want to be in the challenge, please pledge yourself!
  10. Hi there, I'm hoping someone on this site can help me out. I'm in possession of bridesmaid dresses from the wedding of my bestie. Plus 1 additional because of a crazy shipping fiasco that prompted us to buy a dress in the same color that was a similar cut on the top; we thought we were going to have to have someone remake it to as close as possible to the rest with about a week's notice. They are champagne colored with sweetheart necklines and rushing on the stomach area fading out to the bust. They have a fabric belt with a fabric flower attached as well, and are tea to knee length depending on how tall you are. The skirt has 3 pleats on the front to give it a bit of texture and they also have pockets. The additional dress is long with the top being very similar. There is a slit in the bottom of the dress to about the knee. The skirt lays flatter than the flare of the other dresses, but could possibly be adjusted as you have the floor length fabric to work with - or a maid of honor could always be put in a different dress to stand out a bit from the rest of the bridesmaids. Anyway, I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction for what to do with them. Is there somewhere that we can list them as a bundle? 3 have only been worn the 1 time and the long one and one of the others were never used. I believe the sizes of the 4 are 10, 12, 14 and 16. The long one is a 20. Suggestions on where I can take them for resale or sites to check out to give them a second chance and another bride and her bridesmaids some cute dresses on a budget? I just think it would be so much nicer to bundle them and give a group of ladies that option! I'm in the suburbs of Chicago if that helps. Thanks for your help in advance! *Photos have been cropped to protect the privacy of the other bridemaids ;-)
