Serum. I have used Curl Keeper for years and swear by it. I have tried balms, and they seem to weigh my hair down and make it feel grimy/greasy. I don't find balms to be particularly effective.

 
Serum hands down. Balms have a tendency to just coat the hair follicle while serums penetrate the hair shaft - making it more effective.

 
I'm a serum girl. I have very fine hair, so I have to be careful not to use too 'heavy' products in my hair.
