I apologize in advance for my natural curiosity, I tend to have an unlimited amount of questions.

I don't like chemicals and they don't really like me either. I had to switch to mostly homemade skin care because every product I have used have had negative results. (For example, Proactive led my skin bleed, Murad = painful pizza face.) The same happens with most store brand make up- With either bad coverage and pigments or breakout-city which take my skin weeks to recover. I have tried more expensive things but they make me doubly unhappy because I'm frugal. I have used Beauty From The Earth, the colors are nice sometimes (hit and miss with pigmentation) but I believe they buy their pigments from another company put their name on it and I haven't had the world's greatest customer service-- they're 'okay.' So I'm looking for different and new things. I'm trying to learn about all the ingredients I can so I can make better choices but I feel like I'm running in circles after reading a few threads.

So. What natural mineral company do you use? (Bold and pigmented are my favorite!)

Is there a run down on what ingredients to avoid- such as eye safe, drying, chemical hazard?

Any advice you couldn't live without?

I appreciate any response, thank you!

No apology necessary! I understand your dislike for chemicals. Switching products or finding products for my sensitive skin is so time consuming and can be expensive$$. So, when I find what I like, works, and at a good price I love to share.

Makeup : http://hellominerals.com/

Face :http://www.cerave.com/

I've used both of these companies for about 2 years and yet to have a reaction. (knock on wood)

Check out http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ great site! Full of fantastic info.

Mad Minerals is for purists: TiO2, ZnO, mica and ferrous oxides, give or take a little bit of chromium oxide green or ultramarine blue. All pure mineral powders are drying, only those containing organic components too, are not.

My colored piggies are mostly from TKB Trading and there you can see ingredients for all pigments listed. Chemical dyes are all listed there and therefore avoidable. If the mixture contains dyes, I usually won't buy it (unles the color is really really cool, of course) :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />.

I had a lot of trouble after I was diagnosed with a medical condition several years ago where everything I had ever used and had in my collection made my face red, itch, blotchy, burn... you name it.

I started making my own skin care until things calmed down. I really liked what I made, and in fact, my skin had never looked better. Now, I find that Aveeno and a brand called BeFine work great for me. Sometimes the medical condition kicks my skin into "ugh" mode and I get problems, but I just go back to the homemade stuff, then once it calms down again, I go back to Aveeno & BeFine.  I attempt to dabble with other products once in a while, but always end up going back to them.

For foundation, I really like Almay's liquid foundation or L.A. Mineral's powder foundation. I have no problems with them. Depends on the type of coverage I'm looking for that day. Even when I need a creamy foundation if my skin is dry, I just add a couple of drops of sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil to the mineral foundation and it goes on with no trouble.

L.A. Minerals is great for eyeshadows and blushes too. I love their "Milkshake" blush!  Great color!

I don't have any problems with mascara, liners or lip colors, so any brand works for me.  Good luck and let us know what you go with.

It sounds like you've had some pretty terrible allergic reactions in the past. I suppose unless you know specifically what kinds of compounds you are specifically allergic to or are having an adverse reaction to it must be pretty difficult to order or buy anything with any confidence. Luckily a lot of companies offer samples of their products for a reasonable fee. The best advice I can give you is when you have settled on a company to try, test out a sample or two on your skin anywhere but your face and leave it there for a day... For someone like you, the stakes are simply higher. You may have a reaction, you may not, but I think considering your situation, this may be the best course of action if you must use make up.

Unfortunately, I don't really have any specific mineral makeup recommendations for you since I just started using mineral makeup myself. Besides that I am hesitate to refer you to something anyway in the event it just doesn't agree with your skin. Sorry!

I apologize for not getting back to this. I have to walk downtown to get internet, with being in an accident back in March- makes it a bit harder. Regardless, thank you all so very much for your responses.

Lysette: I have quite oily skin. Do you think/know if drying agents, such as minerals, would actually be beneficial or just crease more? :/ I use Urban Decay Primer potion but sometimes even that creases (way better than Too Face's shadow assurance, in my opinion.) I've heard of TKB Trading! I'm quite eager to try them out. Any suggestions?

SassyAuburn: That sounds incredibly frustrating. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad you found something to work. I'll have to check out more Aveeno and BeFine.

Visions: Isn't the downside to sampling that it takes months for you skin to adjust? Or am I gullible to myths? Basically anything with "fragrance" (a nice way of not identifying what's really in it, what is "fragrance"??) or any kind of alcohol makes me react. It's either more acne or painful broken acne (sores.)

At the moment, I've been sticking to my homemade stuff and pride. I use one tablet of aspirin with 2 droplets of water and a squirt of honey a week for 15 minutes = best scrub ever!! Rarely, I use my 2 parts water to 1 part apple cider as an astringent (with cotton ball.) It burns but no reaction- when rinsed, it makes my skin much softer. Nightly I use Yardley's Oatmeal and Almond soap, plus hypoallergenic baby wipes and olive oil as a make up remover (not extra virgin, it'll burn the snot out of your eyes.) I use a Walmart knock off of Aveeno daily moisturizer. I have nothing to treat the starting of wrinkles (I'll be 26 next month,) tempted to use Olay. Lastly, pride. My personality covers most of my imperfections. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thank you again<3

I'm no skin specialist, but I'm pretty sure if you have a reaction to the product, it will most likely be within the first few weeks of use, assuming that's the only thing you change in your skin care routine. I think some companies give more generous samples than others, but I think you'll find smaller, more independent companies may be more flexible to get your business. I don't believe any of the mineral make ups I've been looking at contain artificial fragrance or alcohol. Like I said though, any of your questions about a product should be directed to the company of interest or owner.

Aveeno contains oat in many of its skincare products, scrubs or moisturizers for what i've tried. I'd recommend you try samples, as it can be a source of allergy, and despite my sensitive skin i also found their products were quite rough.

Actually, chemicals effects the skin, it totally depends on the type of skin you have. So, you can use ayurvedic things like turmeric, lemon juice, almond oil etc.Ayurvedic things will not effect your skin too much and give slightly results.

Aveeno's Ultra Calming Foaming Cleanser and Active Naturals Ultra-Calming Moisturizing Cream Cleanser do not contain any oats in them. They do contain a natural oil from the Feverfew plant which is known to calm skin and prevent irritations. Those are the only two cleansers I use from Aveeno because they are in the "Sensitive Skin" line which is for me. Aveeno has several different lines from acne to sensitive skin, anti-aging to skin repair so you really want to know what your ultimate goal is with your skin and then go from there. Their website is great for answering questions.

Don't forget, too, that many simple things around the house are great for skin care. Mashed up bananas are the best... a high sugar-content fruit which cleans and moisturizes at the same time. Mixed with a little honey and a splash of heavy cream is the best facial cleanser I ever made. Pureed peaches are good too. If making the stuff at home works, go with it. Its guaranteed to always be fresh,  cool (keep it in the fridge) and gentle!!

Blue Line Cosmetics!!! I had a client who was very worried about her wedding because her skin was so very sensitive and she could barely ever wear any makeup let alone enough to make her the flawless skin bride. I had just ordered some face primer foundation and shadows from Blue Line and we tested it out at her trial and prayed! She called me the next day and said it worked!!! No reaction whatsoever! We used it for her wedding and she came into my studio and showed me everything she ordered from them

I would definitely recommend CeraVe Cleansers...

Dermatologists recommend it a lot and I also have very oily skin but the CeraVe really really helps that and my skin's hardly ever oily anymore.
