I saw Bonnie picked up a color wheel from Two Cosmetics (see her post for the pic). I saw a few other pictures yesterday on Facebook and noticed one of the booths - not sure if it's just Two Cosmetics or another company as well - that have "Color Wheels" from Lady Burd cosmetics.

Image by Bonnie for Makeup Talk.

Lady Burd is a private label manufacture and people contract with them to buy cosmetics with their own label on it. Other companies that use Lady Burd are witch Slap Cosmetics and Gretchen Christine Cosmetics (if you're a Real Housewives of Orange County fan you've heard of her line).

Now witch Slap and Two Cosmetics are selling Paint Wheels which are NOT SAFE for the eyes and on Lady Burd's website it clearly states that. I know, by Bonnie's pic, that Two Cosmetics has renamed their paint wheel (specifically they're calling Lady Burd's Carnival as Trixie) and I don't know if they included Lady Burd's warning or not.

So folks, if you're considering buying the paint wheels ask them if those wheels are eye safe, if they say yes do not buy ANY products from them since the person is being dishonest. If they say no then they're honest and you know to use at your own risk.

Edit to add:

I found their Facebook page and saw they posted their own picture. They're calling the Paint Wheels "True Colors" and I've asked them, on Facebook, if the products are eye safe. I already know the answer and it's no. Let's hope they answer truthfully.

Edit #2: Found their website and it looks as if they are being dishonest since they list their "True Colors" in the EYES section. These are NOT EYE SAFE. They also renamed their colors from the Lady Burd colors (witch Slap kept the names as did a couple of indie companies that buy from Lady Burd - look on Youtube for videos on the matter). Lady Burd names marked with * are NOT eye safe.

Lady Burd Two Cosmetics Waverunner* bubbles Wonderland* candy Nebula * destiny Fireplace* ginger Nightfall lola Roulette* savannah Beach Ball* sierra Sprite* summer Carnival* trixie Edit #3.: Forgot to mention. On Lady Burd's site the Paint Wheels are not found in the Eyes section but in the FACE. The colors are safe to use on the face but not on or near the eyes.

Edit #4: Disclaimer: At this time, until Two Cosmetics replies with an answer to if the products are eye safe or not it is possible that they mislabeled their product as an eye item since the description states "in-your-face". If you buy be warned that Lady Burd's website states it is NOT eye safe and Two Cosmetics has no such warning on their site. Use at your own risk.

You're welcome.

Unfortunately this does prove, to me, that IMATS doesn't check to see who their vendors are and what is being sold and that there is ZERO regulation on making sure products sold at IMATS are actually sold accurately and safely. I wish the cosmetic industry was more regulated like the cosmetology industry is and that MUAs and vendors were strictly licensed as they are in the cosmetology and nail industries. There have been several IMATS speakers whom I find to be VERY shady and deceptive and whose skills are lacking. I won't get into name calling or naming names here but suffice it to say that there are MANY MUAs  and cosmetic companies who DO care about safety of their clients but many who are in it for a fast buck.

I was asked by someone via PM if I was sure about Two Cosmetics selling Lady Burd products.

There is no doubt now in my mind that Two Cosmetics is selling Lady Burd AND unethically selling it as EYE safe when Lady Burd has stated that the items are NOT eye safe. Here's how I can prove it.

The column on the left contains the name of Paint Wheels as Lady Burd calls the item. The column on the right contains the name of the Two Cosmetics' "Paint" (as they call it) using the names that they call each item BUT notice the name of the images. The image names in their url is that of Lady Burd's products.

The links are to the images and to the products so you can see for yourself.

http://twocosmetics.com/eyes/paint.html'>http://twocosmetics.com/eyes/paint.html

Lady Burd clearly has the Paint Wheels (as they call it) in the "Dramatic All Overs" section ( http://www.ladyburd.com/category.php?id=1 ) of their site NOT the "Eyes" section. They also clearly state in big bold letters at the top of the Paint Wheels page:

SHADES MARKED WITH AN " * " FOLLOWING THE SHADE NAME INDICATE THAT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED FOR THE AREA OF THE EYE.
All but Nightfall (which Two Cosmetics call their product as Lola) contain the *.

There is no doubt in my mind that Two Cosmetics is being dishonest and deceptive to customers by listing the product in their EYES section ( http://twocosmetics.com/eyes/paint.html ) when the products are not eye safe.

But we should already know that IMATS doesn't regulate anything for the mere fact that the palettes that Coastal Scents popularized come from questionable sources, but MANY vendors there sell some version(s) of them...

At the end of the day, it's a business, the goal is to make money. Who cares if a decade or more down the road we start developing illnesses from the makeup we bought and purchased now...

The point my thread was to warn people so they know what they're looking and potentially are buying. Some people with allergies and other sensitivities have the right to know if the product they're using will harm them. In many cases it won't take a "decade or more" to develop a problem. I had almost an instant reaction to MicaBell's products and to this day I don't know what was in it that caused me to have a rash all over my face. When it comes to the eyes, something that once damaged can almost always never recover, that is something no company has the right to sell products that can harm someone permanently. I did state don't buy if you ask them if it's eye safe and they tell you no because that's an outright lie but everyone has the choice to use a product or not to so long as they've been properly informed. I'm not saying boycott the company or anything like that just be aware of what you're buying.

So I contacted Two Cosmetics yesterday via e-mail since they didn't reply to the Facebook and this is their response.

yes, safe for eyes, all over the face, body...can be used wet or dry.

Comment: Quick question on your True Paint (http://twocosmetics.com/eyes/paint.html). Is it eye safe? I noticed it's

listed in the eyes section but the description states as face but nothing

about the eyes. Is it safe to use on the eyes?
Liar, liar. I've already proven those are Lady Burd's paint wheels since their image names are the EXACT names of Lady Burd's paint wheels and they look EXACTLY like Lady Burd's. The wheels are NOT eye safe.

Has anyone contacted Lady Burd to tell them that their products are being sold this way?

If I was an owner/manufacturer, I would hate that my products are being mislabeled or misused.  In the end, the person with the right lawyer could cause a heck of a lot of problems.

I replied to their email to me about their products being eye safe with this:

Are you sure? The paint wheels from Lady Burd are clearly marked as not approved for the eye and your paint wheels are clearly Lady Burd's paint wheels.

I tried calling Lady Burd (it's 10:18 AM right now) but got a "sorry we're closed... normal hours are" message. It's 1:18 PM Eastern so they should be open. I'm sending Lady Burd an email now to ask why their paint wheels are listed as not approved for the eyes. Is it a chemical in it? A mineral in it? Glitter or what?

I know at TKB Trading the mica all have details which states if it's FDA approved for the face, lips or eyes. Example on TKB Trading Blue Iris mica - it's listed as approved for eyes, face, nails NOT lips. The TKB Trading True Red/Orange is listed as approved for lips, face, nails NOT eyes.

Now, I know Lady Burd does not specifically state "not eye safe" and actually lists is "not approved for eyes". This is essentially the same thing since the FDA is VERY strict on the pigments, dyes and all color additives in cosmetics. They do not regulate cosmetics as tightly as they do drugs but they do regulate the items that go into cosmetics. TKB Trading actually discusses the FDA's rules on their site: http://www.tkbtrading.com/content.php?content_id=16 TKB also provides the link to the FDA website on color additives which can be found here: http://www.fda.gov/ForIndustry/ColorAdditives/ColorAdditiveInventories/ucm115641.htm#table3B

When something is listed as "not eye approved" it's because the FDA has deemed the item as not safe.

Neither Lady Burd not Two Cosmetics provides the ingredients list to the paint wheels. Bonnie, I'm curious, is there an ingredient list on the compact that you bought?

Hello girls!  I am in touch with the lady burd because i purchase products from them, so if you want i can ask them for that question about why those are not eye safe. bout those paints i tried them on my lids and i dont felt a thing, or in my eyes, vision and so on, but i have to tell you i used them on a base or primer, never direct to my eyelids skin, why?  well because those paints stain the skin!  now, with the glitter issue on them, i don have any problem with that, those glitter doesnt fall.  If you wanna as me more about the paints and the paint wheels please feel free to contact me.

thanks!

Annie

There's a reason why certain items are marked as not safe and that's because the FDA has deemed them as such. Even if one person hasn't had a negative effect the fact is that the potential for eye damage is there. No two sets of eyes are the same and while you may have used the wheels safely another person may have an adverse reaction.

Hello everyone!  I am Joanna (one of the founders of two cosmetics).  Thank you for your concern with our paint wheels. We were actually not aware of this until recently via Annie's communication with us and so have recently added a disclaimer to our paint section.  So Thank you Annie!  When my sister, Jacqueline and I set out to start a cosmetics company with the goal of empowering women and making products more affordable for all women, we honestly just found manufacturers that would work with us since we were so small.  We are now able to source more manufacturers and are in the process of improving these paint wheels by finding alternative ingredients that can be used around the eyes.  So please stay tuned and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for adding that disclaimer but what you wrote in tiny, light gray writing on your page is still a misleading because LadyBurd states this on their page (in large, black lettering):

Quote Lady Burd: SHADES MARKED WITH AN " * " FOLLOWING THE SHADE NAME INDICATE THAT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED FOR THE AREA OF THE EYE.

All of the wheels except Nightfall (which you call Lola) are not approved for the eyes as indicated by Lady Burd.

Quote Two Cosmetics: vibrant pallets of “in-your-face†powder paints to give your look that something that makes you stand out! use the brush of your choice to create art on your face to your heart’s content. add a little water to define your look or glitter to finish your masterpiece. great for theatre/costume makeup & a fantastic treat for halloween. can be used wet/dry, all over your face & with or without a base. *some colors are not recommended for the eye area due to staining, please contact [email protected] for details

To be fair I did contact your company when I originally posted this and was told that it was safe for the eyes. I already knew at that time that the wheels are made by Lady Burd and was (am) well aware of Lady Burd's warning.

As a consumer, and keep in mind my comments are my own and not those of Makeup Talk's owner or other moderators, I would hope you would move the paint wheels from the eyes section and place them in your face section with the same notice that Lady Burd gives on their site - "Not approved for the eyes". Keeping them in the eye section is misleading since these wheels are not meant for the eyes which is why on Lady Burd's page the items are in the Dramatic All Overs section and not in the Brow & Eyes section.

Edit: I wanted to add one more thing. The reason Lady Burd states on their site the products are not approved for the eyes is due to the ingredients. Some of the ingredients are NOT FDA approved for the eyes. I found a few blogs and forums that list the Paint Wheels ingredients and three of the ingredients are not FDA approved for the eyes. So again, those who own the paint wheels, use at your own risk or discontinue using the paint wheels on your eyes.

Can't they just recall the wheels instead of selling them and screaming that they aren't eye safe?

I was talked into buying one at IMATS because the girl kept saying they are eyeshadow they are eyeshadow and now I can't even use it...are you planning on refunding those who contact you about this matter?
