i want to start wearing eyeshadow, but keep it subtle a neutral, and i was just wondering where's the best place to get good eyeshadow and in what tones for really pale skin? or is all eyeshadow basically the same? haha i'm clueless :x

I am fairly pale myself also but honesty I still use all shades of eyeshadow, its all about application and how much you actually use. If you like to order on line and you are just starting out applying makeup and would like to experiment, I suggest coastal scents. I started off with it and I'm still using it. they have great pallet deals and the makeup is very reasonably priced. Since you said you wanted to start off with neutrals id go with the 88 warm pallet for neutral but also some neutral purples and blues. They also have a neutral pallet that's less colours but more of each.

here are some links

http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=122

that's all of the pallets with deals when you package certain pallets together

88 warm pallet which I own and LOVE

28 neutral pallet

Shippings fairly fast, I live in new york and after my echeck cleared it only took 3 days. I got the shipping for free since I purchase 50 dollars worth of items. Also check out their brushes if your starting out, I have this kit

http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/927_37/12-piece-brush-set-with-case.cfm

with this brush

http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/2018_37/black-crease-brush.cfm

and they're a little bit scratchy but not unbearable they just need to be washed first(not the black crease brush its AMAZING) so maybe if anyone else have purchased one of the other kits they can offer their feed back

hope i could help :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I use Dinair Airbrush Makeup and they actually allowed me to email in my picture and then they just told me which of their shades to get...it made it really easy. Im really pale as well and i love the shades they suggested!

If you do not wish to buy lots of different colors,  I think something like Urban Decay's Naked would be the best.

Cheap one just for trying out would be e.l.f.'s beauty book eye manual in neutral during some sale or some of those neutral W&W palettes like Walking on Eggshells, Silent Treatment.

I have very pale skin and my undertones are such that I cannot wear blues or greens - too harsh. Teals are better and golden greens but no harsh bright tones. I  mostly prefer all sorts of muted colors.

I agree you could check Urban Decay's Naked palette, it is well made and it offers enough colors you can have subtle shades, and bright, darker shadows for going out/night looks.

I think you can try any color you want, but stick to medium shades for day looks, too dark or too intense colors might be too noticeable. It also depends on the effect you want.

thanks guys for the replies! i've heard urban decay is really good but i think i might try e.l.f. first! just because i always see their stuff at target and i'm headed over there today anyway haha

This is great list of resources for the neutrals. I'm always nervous ordering online because you don't know exactly what your getting and how it works on your skin.

I'm not an expert, but I've just learned all this from experience.

If you want to make your face seem less pale or fair, I'd try some gold toned eyeshadows, or maybe some purples with a pink undertone. Turquoise, green, coral, etc. Anything that seems to warm up your face.

If you want to accentuate your paleness, go with blue toned shadows, that seem to contrast to your skin tone.

If you really want to find out what will look best on you, you need to figure out what undertone your skin has. You can either have pink (cool), or yellow (warm). People with pink toned skin, look best in shades that have a blue undertone or base. People with yellow toned skin, tend to look better with a warmer base, like gold. To figure out whether you have a pink or yellow undertone (or neutral, which means that you could go either way), there are several methods you can use. Usually its fairly easy - you can try holding a white piece of paper up to your face and looking in the mirror to see whether in contrast to the white, your face seems yellow or pink. You can look at your wrists, and see whether you have more green veins (yellow toned) or blue veins (pink toned). If you look better in silver, you probably have pink toned skin, and if you look better in gold, you're probably yellow toned. If you tan easily, you're probably yellow toned, but if you get sunburn, you're probably pink toned.

Here's an example of the difference between blue and gold tones:

Gold/orange toned red lipstick: http://romansalonla.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/angelina-jolie-red-lipstick-in-moscow-july-2010.jpg

Again, the blue tone would look better on pink-toned skin, and the gold tone would look better on yellow-toned skin.

And the difference between cool and warm tones:

Warm: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AbzQd0Vi8u8/Tf1JmDdYQ1I/AAAAAAAAE1M/vT3FZuzvwLo/s1600/IMG_1443.JPG

Hope this helps!
