I am in Illinois and I was wondering, does a free lance MUA, that is NOT going to work in a salon/spa or any place like that need a license? I have tried to find info on this and most places say no, not for a freelancer who is not working for a salon/spa. Can someone please help on this question? Depends on your state's law. Most states do not require a professional license (i.e. cosmetology license or similar) to do freelance makeup HOWEVER you will need a business license though your city and possibly state if you want to make money.
